It's closer to 3.6 mil, not 4 mil, but still a little better than what I had thought. I still think that he wouldn't do that.
Orl brings up an interesting point though. Contract extensions are different than opting out and signing an extension. He can't just opt out of contract in the middle of the season (we are considered in season now right?) and sign an extension. At least, I don't believe so.

Yeah I think he can only opt out at the end of the year

I am 100% sure that players can not opt out before the end of the season. And as for the 30 day rule. I am pretty sure in the NBA, players need to decide by June 1st if they will opt out or not, and those guys are not allowed to sign a new deal untill I believe July 10th or so. Ala the Baron Davis to LA and Brand to Philly ordeal last season. Brand opted out so LA would have cap space to sign BDiddy with Brand panning on resigning with the Clippers. During the period LA was not allowed to sign Brand, Philly jumped in a gave him a better deal.

Well if it makes you feel better, consider it a "deal in principle".

This is all correct.
Additionally, there's absolutely no planet where Jeffries signs that deal. But that's not important at this point it seems.

Jeffries does NOT opt out. He is signing an extension that would be tacked on at the end of his current contract so that 2010/11 number stays as is. The extension kicks in starting 2011/12.

Orlando will send Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Orlando 2015 2nd to Dallas for nothing
Pops is a vet min player so salary is not needed (Dallas also had a TPE that would work if needed from the Jawai deal)
Pops did not fit into our plans and would get no minutes. Plus we really want the open roster spot to bring in a player that will contribute now.

Raptors accept, I'm working towards building the best team in the Eastern Conference, and my big depth with Daly/Okur/Bosh/Blair/Evans is looking pretty good after this deal. I don't really like Louis Williams and Alston can steady the ship at the backup PG position.

Ok, so he's finishing his two current years, then starting a 3m increasing deal? In that case, he's overpaid

NO players will opt out before FA starts. I admit that I didn't read MJ's email thoroughly and just saw the numbers. I assumed he wanted to extend Jeffries, so my bad.
As I said you do not have to sign him.

Re: GM a Team 2010 - Trades & Transactions Thread
Charlotte has resigned Chris Quinn -
Year 1: $1,500,000
Year 2: $1,500,000
Year 3: $1,500,000
Year 1: $1,500,000
Year 2: $1,500,000
Year 3: $1,500,000
Quinn won't have as good of a chance to receive minutes on any team other than the Bobcats. He will receive 14-18 minutes a game. We have a great chance to improve next year, and I think that Quinn can be a big part of it as the leader of our second unit. We like his shooting ability and solid leadership, and we will use him to the full of his abilities. Quinn will also have the chance to get a better contract at the end of this one.

Orlando is also pleased to announce that Wil Bynum has agreed to a contract extension.
Year 1: $1,500,000
Year 2: $1,500,000
Year 3: $1,500,000 (player option)
We love the offensive spark that Will offers off the bench. This will allow him to opt out after his 5th NBA season and truely become a FA, not the RFA with salary restriction FA he would have been this offseason

Rudy Gay and the Warriors have agreed on a contract extension.
Year 1: $12,000,000
Year 2: $13,260,000
Year 3: $14,520,000
Year 4: $15,780,000 (potential PO if incentives are reached)
Year 5: $17,040,000
Total: 5 years, 72.6 million
We are happy to have our young star locked up, especially since this lets us avoid having to massively overpay in FA to keep him. Rudy should provide great scoring and athleticism from the SF position for a long time for us.

Washington and Minnesota have come to an agreement
Washington sends
Greg Buckner 4,000,000
Fanricio Oberto..........1,990,000
Javaris Crittenton.......1,477,920
2010 washington second

Minnesota sends
Corey Brewer 2,916,120
Rights to Nikola Pekovic
Darius Songaila 4,526,000

Washington does this deal because we like pekovic and hope brewer can turn around his career. songolia has a bad deal but since we didn't exspect to be players in this free agency anyways it does not effect us that much.

Wolves waive Johan Petro before the trade.
Wolves accept. Losing young talent like Brewer and Pekovic sucks but I've been trying to trade Songaila for weeks and this was the only deal that I could get. Critt still has potential but I'm not sure if I will pick up his option, log jam at PG. This will free up probably an additional 5-6 million cap room for FA this year.
Wolves immediately waive Greg Buckner and his almost unguranteed deal. Cap Hit: $1,062,398 this year and $1,064,516 next year.
