GM A TEAM 2010/11 - Free Agency (MINOR ANNOUNCEMENTS PG10)

Post#1 » by lukekarts » Mon May 24, 2010 2:08 pm

1. Free Agency will begin Monday 31st May, 7pm EST.

2. Teams under the cap can make offers for any player; please send them to myself along with a brief justification as to why you feel the player should sign with you. I will discuss any major free agent signing with r0cd0gg, who is impartial for this game.

3. Teams over he cap can make offers using both the MLE - $5.5m; BAE ($2m, $2.2m, 2 years) or Vet Minimum ($900k). MLE can be split between players. Again, these will be judged by myself and/or r0cd0gg; a short justification is required.

4. Sign & Trades can be proposed; however they require the same justification from the signing team, and of course agreement by the team losing their player. Again, these will be judged on the merits of the deal.

OK, here's my thoughts on how this should work.

Monday 31st, 7pm EST, free agency will open.

Mail me your offers for players, including WHY you think they should sign for you.

Guys like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade & other All Star free agents will have their future decided by Thursday.

Once their fates are decided I will start looking at all the other players that have received offers. Naturally the fate of the big names will have some bearing on where some players decide to go.

You may make multiple offers at once, with a preference order on who signs (in the case you only have cap space for one player).

Restricted Free Agents - once they have signed an offer sheet, I will give the team holding the rights 24 hours to decide whether to match.

Sign & Trades - are possible (especially for teams over the cap); however ultimately the player will decide his fate so make your pitch. If a S&T is required, I will come back to you and tell both teams to work out a S&T within 24 hours, otherwise the player will move to his second choice location.

Any other questions, please fire away in this topic now.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Send offers now, or on Monday?

send your contract offer for that FA to commish with reasons he would want to sign with you. If the player wants to accept your offer, commish will let you know and you would have 24 hours to work out a trade (include the main pieces of the trade in the offer to commish so he knows what players will not be on your team if the FA signs with you)

As commish has said, the main choice for a contract offer is made by the player, not the teams trading. The trade comes after the player agrees that he would sign for that amount.

I think before we proceed with the FA, rules will have to be laidout carefully and who will manage the FA.

I will manage it, but any of the major decisions (e.g. Wade, Bosh, LeBron) will be talked through with guys like r0cd0gg, maybe CellarDoor, and any other players who are not playing the game.

Personally I'm only going to be looking for a point guard in free agency and I will let that decision fall to someone outside of the game.

I have several announcements regarding unsigned rookies to make.

Jerome Randle has signed a 2 year contract (1st guaranteed, 2nd team option) with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jerome was delighted with Cleveland's up front commitment to him from the outset, and looks forward to joining his new team shortly.

Andrew Oglivy has signed a 2 year contract (1st guaranteed, 2nd team option) with the Boston Celtics. Andrew had a lot of teams chasing him, but chose Boston due the teams reputation and past success.

Hamady N'Diaye has signed a 2 year contract (1st unguaranteed, 2nd team option) with the Boston Celtics. Boston were the only team who showed interest, and he is keen to repay that commitment with hard work, and hopefully a permanent roster spot.

And finally, Elijah Millsap has signed a 2 year contract (1st unguaranteed, 2nd team option) with OKC Thunder. He feels the setup at OKC is ideal for him, and looks forward to joining his new team.

Guys, I have had about 12 teams get in touch so far about the major free agents with their offers. Strongly recommend anyone else that wants to get a bid in for these guys does so tonight.

Mail all offers to lukekarts@gmail.com and state your reasoning.

I have now had a pretty comprehensive list of offers through for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amar'e Stoudemire & Chris Bosh, and having had a long discussion with r0cd0gg last night, we are fairly comfortable with the shortlist of options for each player and that a decision will be reached in approx 12 hours from now on their futures.

I appreciate there will be a lot of disappointed teams - much as I expect there will be in real life this summer - but the factors that have come into the decision making have all been well considered.

To briefly summarise the process taken when making these choices, we have prioritised the team's ability to win now (by looking at the current roster and the cap space available); if they are similar then we have looked at desirability of the location; and also taken into account real life preferences of players.

The Hawks are actively looking for S&T offers for Joe Johnson. We don't think we will be able to retain his services and that a S&T is our preferred option.

Just as long as you recognize that a team with monster cap room such as myself might not have any need to do a sign and trade. And if I do its not likely to net you anything you'd want.

Ya, because FA's are going to be flocking to play with the great Wilson Chandler..

a S&T would make it more attractive for the player. That would give him more $ per and a 6th season. The cap space would make it easier to S&T since you don't have to give make equal salary, just picks or prospects

A S&T does make it more favourable for the player, but there are a couple of things to remember.

(please note the situations below are hypothetical)

1. A players decision of where to play is his main priority over money. That is not to say he won't push for a S&T to get more money, but...

2. A player will still need to agree to a S&T. If for example, LeBron agrees to a S&T to NY, it will not be with Gallinari going the other way! A more likely scenario is a future 1st, or swapping of a bad contract for a reasonable one.

3. The team holding the rights to the player is not obliged to agree. E.g. if LeBron wants to be S&T to NY, Cleveland does not have to agree... but LeBron might leave for nothing.

4. I will be recommending S&T deals for all the major players, and it will be in the interests of all teams concerned to make a S&T work.

As I mentioned with my selection criteria, I have discussed this with r0cd0gg last night; I have also run through my decision making with dcash and CellarDoor today and will reach a decision later.

For those teams who I have already confirmed are not in the running, you can go ahead and make offers for additional free agents if you wish.

When I make the announcements tonight, I will make sure I give you a full breakdown on the players decisions. As I said previously, some of you will be disappointed, however there's between 6-10 offers for each player and the competition is tough!

Oh the sarcasim. Of course, in taking the time to make a wisea$$ remark instead of actually taking some time to think b4 you post you miss several important points Lukekarts just made. It also ignores the main reason why I pointed it out. Sign and trades have always been a pet peeve of mines in games like this. People tend to offer up their guys in Sign and trades as if they were any other trade chip. That completely flies in the face of what free agency is.

And for the record, I have not deluded myself into thinking the Knicks will be the big winners in free agency. Personally, I think if we strike out with Lebron and/or Wade we'll probably strike out with most if not all our other big targets.

:D I was kidding about Chandler.

I would tend to agree with the S&T aspect but thats the reality of FA.
