GM A TEAM Spring 2011 - Writeups (FINAL RANKINGS PAGE 3)
OK, just some general guidelines on Writeups, particularly for the new guys:
- Post your roster, and salaries for at least 3 seasons (11/12, 12/13, 13/14)
- Post total salaries, and total salaries excluding player options
- List your draft picks accumulated
- Post your depth chart. Make your post look as fancy as you like.
- DO NOT post trades history - it's a waste of space
- DO NOT post contact details - not needed.
Writeups
- Tell us why you think you did a good job
- It's good to say what your expectations are, where the team was when you took over, and why you took the route you did.
Rankings
- Rankings will be posted on this board (I'll confirm when/where later)
- 1 set of rankings - 'best job' - consider who has done most with the assets available to them. Has the franchise improved it's position/situation now or in the future, significantly? Has the franchise strengthened it's ability to contend relative to it's competitors?
2 bonus criteria:
- 2012 Champion (nominate 1 team only)
- Best Team in 5 years (nominate 1 team only)
Any questions etc, please post in discussion topic.

Re: GM A TEAM Spring 2011 - Writeups

Roster, Salaries, Picks

Rotation
Chuck Hayes [34] / Joel Freeland [14]
LaMarcus Aldridge [36] / Kenneth Faried [12]
Luol Deng [36] / Travis Outlaw [12]
Jodie Meeks [18] / Marcus Thornton [30]
Kyrie Irving [34] / Ramon Sessions [14]
Before
Before I joined, Portland were stuck in limbo. Brandon Roy's career as an All Star over, his contract weighing the franchise down… a much faded Camby at Center, Oden injured; and no real upside to speak of - the only real 'surprise' in the team being Wesley Matthews. Essentially the team was a 1st round exit team with no hope of getting better.
Therefore, I set myself the task of:
- Getting LaMarcus Aldridge a better supporting cast
- Staying young
- Removing Brandon Roy's contract
The Result
Player Stats - 2010/11 Season
PG - Kyrie Irving - 17.5 points (53%/46%), 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals in 27 mins (NCAA)
SG - Jodie Meeks - 10.5 points (43%/40%), 1.1 assists, 0.8 steals in 27 mins
SF - Luol Deng - 17.4 points (46%/34%), 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists in 39 mins
PG - LaMarcus Aldridge - 21.8 points (50%), 8.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks in 39 mins
C - Chuck Hayes - 7.9 points (53%), 8.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals in 28 mins
PG - Ramon Sessions - 13.3 points (47%), 5.2 assists, 0.7 steals in 26 mins
SG - Marcus Thornton - 21.3 points (45%/36%), 3.4 assists, 1.7 steals in 38 mins
SF - Travis Outlaw - 9.2 points (38%), 4 rebounds, 0.4 blocks in 28 mins
PF - Kenneth Faried - 17.3 points (62%), 14.5 rebounds, 2.3 blocks in 35 mins (NCAA)
C - Joel Freeland - 14 points (62%), 6.5 rebounds, 0.6 blocks in 25 mins (Euro-Lg)
SG - Sasha Vujacic - 11.4 points (40%/37%), 2.3 assists, 1 steal in 28 mins
SF - Damion James - 4.4 points (45%), 3.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists in 16 mins
C - Hassan Whiteside - 4.4 points (51%), 2.7 rebounds, 2.1 blocks in 10 mins (D-Lg)
The key success was of course trading for number one pick Kyrie Irving. Possessing a similar first step, court vision and instinct of Chris Paul, he has the kind of All Star potential to build around - his development will be key to making this team a contender with LaMarcus. He's as NBA ready as point guards come, with a controlled handle, shooting range beyond the 3 point line, and a defensive awareness to match. I have high hopes for him, and don't think it's far fetched to suggest a few 20/10 seasons through the course of his career.
Luol Deng was the other key acquisition, and upgrade from Wallace on the wing. Deng has proven his ability as 3rd option for the league's best team, offering elite defence alongside versatile off the ball scoring. He has proven his health and his ability to perform in the playoffs, and the additional floor spacing he provides will really open things up inside for my bigs. He's also young - having only just turned 26.
Elsewhere, the addition of Meeks (shooter) and Thornton (slasher) have strengthened the shooting guard position significantly. Meeks shot 40% from three against the league's best perimeter defence, whilst Thornton could possibly develop into an All Star - his 21ppg in Sacramento had a pretty big impact. I'm giving him the 6th man role here because I think he will play better with the ball in his hands, and the second unit provides that freedom. He will still play significant and key minutes.
Chuck Hayes brings rugged post-defence to the Center position, and whilst I may look to strengthen the Center position via MLE in the future, Hayes proved his value in Houston - his post-D is second to none and he helped the Rockets achieve a winning record.
I also have high hopesdraftee Kenneth Faried, brings a more athletic, closer to the basket version of Paul Millsap to the bench. He will thrive with a point guard like Irving feeding him. Depth-wise, further additions of Ramon Sessions, Sasha Vujacic, Travis Outlaw & Damion James give me a few defensive or scoring options to call upon when needed.
The team is improved at point guard, shooting guard, small forward, and possesses more front court depth and durability. And of course, FAR MORE UPSIDE. If Irving fulfil's his potential, I expect to be competing for titles in the next 3 years. After all, the team's average age is just 24...

Writeup
Ok so i will just compare my new team, to the old team.
PGLuke Ridnour, Johnny Flynn, Sebastion Telfair << Mike Conley, JJ Barea
Obviously i win this one, I have a PG who is leading the Grizzlies to the second round of the playoffs and possibly beyond. A very good backup scoring PG in Barea aswell.
SG Wes Johnson, Wayne Ellington <<< Andre Iguodala, Rodney Stuckey, Deshawn Stevenson
Here i changed a very badly underpreforming rookie SG into a pereniall all star and, someone who i think will absolutely flourish in the Sixth man role, and possibly win many 6moty awards.
SF Michael Beasley, Martell Webster, Lazar Hayward <<< Rudy Gay, Hedo Turkoglu
Here i have absolutely dominated aswell. Changed another underpreforming player into yet another pereniall all star. Turk will be a very good ball handler off the bench (2 years left on contract)
PF Kevin Love, Anthony Randolph, Anthony Tolliver = Al Horford, Jason Smith
This is the only position i have arguably not won. Though i would definately prefer a player who defends and know what it takes to win over an effortless player with inflated stats.
CC Darko Milicic, Nicola Pekovic <<< Nene, Nenad Kristic, Dan Gadzuric
Again i have turned a very underpreforming player, into a pereniall all star. Nene is now viewed as a top 5 C in this league so i have obviously won this position.
Fit
The old team was filled with young players that just didn't know what it takes to win. It is now a bunch of pereniall all stars fitting together perfectly. Conley, Gay and Horford spread the floor for Iggy to drive while both of my bigs are great inside scorers. I will very rarely be outrebounded and everyone on my team puts in loads of effort on defense.
Overall
I have turned the worst team in the league, into an obvious contender filled with tonnes of young talent and upside and a perfect mix of veterans. They are not only ready to win a championship now, but with all my core players in their mid/low-20s i am set up to dominate the whole league for years to come.

BEFORE
Well the hornets had a playoff team just! The team was never going to win it all and 1st round exits in the playoffs are not enough to keep Chris Paul. The team had an injured PF, and overpaid center and average role players so After attempts to add talent to paul proved virtually impossible a plan was put into place to rebuild the team to become younger, still remain competitive, aquire draft picks/young talent, create capspace for 2012 free agency, dont take on silly contracts and not to overpay in free agency.
THE RESULT
Well now the team has changed quite a bit its so much younger with a pairing of the spanish phenom rubio and versatlie evan turner at the guard positions, a nice one two punch at small forward with glue guy dudley and swedish jerebko at sf. starting at PF is one of the seasons most improved players Andre Blatche with bargs/dirk clone donatas putting in some scoring minutes. The center position was solidified with the aquisition of defensive anchor anderson Varejao with good young prospects in aldrich and pleiss the team looks set at center for a long while. adding vets in nate,o,neal, peja, and watson will help this young team. Rounding out the roster are bill walker and desean butler who will get a chance to live up to the paul pierce comparisons.
MONEY
Well money is a very big issue in running a franchise and unlike many teams who have overpaid on free agents and taken on contracts that will kill a franchise for a very short term gain the hornets took the contracts players had very seriously. the plan was to add talented players that were paid right and locked up for the future. The team now has the 5 starters and main role players locked up till 2014. The team enters the season with under 52million committed to the squad plus nearly 14 million in expiring contracts. this will allow the team to pursue a top free agent or two at the end of the season ala howard, love, griffin, harden, gordon there will be a few.
THE FUTURE
This is what i like about this team young potential stars in rubio, turner, donatas, pleiss and aldrich already commited to the squad plus rights to bjelica and top euro pf mirotic. The draft should be interesting in the next few years as currnetly have rights to 4 1st picks in 2012 AND two 1st round picks in 2013. So the team has the core locked down, capspace avaliable for top free agent or two at the end of the season, top euro pf stashed in europe and a mininmum of five 1st round picks in the next 2 years. Thats a very nice position for an nba franchise to be in.
OVERALL
Well the team wont be winning the title this year but 2013 and beyond is a whole different ballgame. The team has potential allstar in rubio, young talents across the board, excellent core, capspace and future picks so believe the future is bright in NEW ORLEANS.....

Re: GM A TEAM Spring 2011 - Writeups
LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS
Rotation:
Ty Lawson 28 / Andre Miller 20
James Harden 30 / Tony Allen 18
Dorell Wright 28 / Tony Allen 10 / Al-Farouq Aminu or Jordan Hamilton 10
Blake Griffin 36 / Ryan Anderson 12
Javale McGee 32 / Timofey Mozgov 16
D-League: Tobias Harris, possibly Jordan Hamilton
Also: Randy Foye, Al Harrington, Antonio McDyess

Draft picks:
2012 - LAC 1st only if in top 10 (otherwise to Boston via OKC); MIL 2nd; LAC 2nd
2013 - LAC 1st (if not sent to Boston in 2012, still top-10 protected); LAC 2nd unless #56 or later, in which case it goes to Detroit
2014 - LAC 1st (if not sent to Boston in 2012 or 2013, still top-10 protected); LAC 2nd unless #56 or later, in which case it goes to San Antonio.
Goal:
Build a team around Blake Griffin that can contend within two to three years.
Major accomplishments:
1. Big upgrade at point guard, bringing in a potential future all-star in Ty Lawson and a veteran mentor in Andre Miller to replace a fading Mo Williams and borderline prospect in Eric Bledsoe.
2. Improved the center spot, and substantially strengthened interior defense, by acquiring Javale McGee (10.4 rebounds, 3.2 blocks/36).
3. Acquired possibly the league's best defensive wing in Tony Allen, and one of its best three-point shooters in Dorell Wright, to take the place of Randy Foye and Ryan Gomes, both well below-average players, on the wing.
4. Traded for two first-round picks in this year's draft that became Jordan Hamilton and Tobias Harris.
5. Built an extraordinarily athletic team - Lawson, Griffin, Aminu and McGee will be quite spectacular to watch.
6. Substantially strengthened the bench.
7. Maintained significant cap space to go after a free agent at the end of the 2011-12 season.
Big questionmark:
SG: Will James Harden be as good as Eric Gordon? Having watched him every day through the second half of the season, I think so. By some measures he may already have passed Gordon:

Why my team is better than before:
Yes, its probably true that the talent level hasn't gone up as much as other teams around the league, but 3 big things have changed on this team.
1. Money. The old Bucks team had bad contracts left and right. Maggette was locked up for 4 years, Gooden for 5, and Salmons for 5, and they are all overpaid. This teams money was all locked into these players, and didn't have any flexibility going forward. I changed that. The players that are getting paid the most on my team are my best players, and they are young, and they contribute. Milwaukee is not a big market, and having an expensive team was not something that was good. The new team has only a few players under contract long term, inabling us to sign players. The old team could not do this, and they would be in a bad state for many years to come.
2. Age. The old Bucks team had a variety of ages. Some key players for them were somewhat old (Salmons, 31, Maggette, 31, Dooling, 30), some were young (Sanders, 22, Jennings, 21, Moute, 24) and some were in their primes (Bogut, 26, Gooden, 29, Delfino, 29). This is not a good mix for a non-contending team. I took this team where now all of the key players are young, and have a lot of upside (Young, 25, Brooks, 26, Humphries, 26, Moute, 24, Biedrins, 26). All in all, this team got a lot younger which is good for a rebuilding team.
3. Fit. The old Bucks team had a lot of players who needed the ball in their hands, had some over paid players that had bad attitudes, and also wasn't winning games. The new Bucks now have some talent in all areas of the game. Humphries and Biedrins will be strong on the glass and defense. Moute is a very long, quick defender. Nick Young has the abilities to score the ball, and can put up 20 a game. Brooks is a solid PG, that when given minutes has performed very well. Powell, Pekovic, Yi and West are all very strong contributors off the bench.
Overall: All in all, this team has been transformed. It used to be a team in limbo really, going no where. It had three horrible contract, a few good prospects and a great center, but when you combine that, it was a big mess that someone needed to clean up. I did that here. This team is now geared toward the future, has a much, much cheaper payroll, and doesn't have such a big age difference on the roster. We should soon see them in the playoffs, and with the right moves in the next years, a championship.

Why my team is better than before:
When I took over this team mid season, I wanted to change the mindset and whole philosophy. With three starters for the old Suns over the age of 33 (Nash, Carter, Hill), I wanted to change the team, and make it fresh and younger. The new team is built on defense and the half court game. With Alvin Gentry as the coach, I got him a nice core to see what he can do with it. Jefferson, Felton, Kirilenko, Lopez, Bass, Douglas-Roberts is a nice core of players that is fairly young. We are a playoff team now, and have a few players that could be very nice coming up.
PG: We got a lot younger here, and have solid backups too. Watson has proven he can be a solid backup with good D, and Price is the third string. Although Felton isn't quite as good as Nash right now, he is about 10 years younger, so he has time to become better. When he was getting minutes, he was 17/9, and we feel he can easily go back to that form.
Wings: Defense, defense, defense. The new wings are built for controlling the perimeter on the defensive end, and knocking down shots on offense. AK47 and Bell are both well known for their D. CDR is no slouch, and Wilkins can come in here and there as well. The new wings have a balance, CDR is a slasher, AK is a shooter and Bell can do both. It is a nice rotation that compliments itself.
Bigs: The old Suns had a deadlock at the C, with 3 players who played that position (Frye, Gortat, Lopez). We took those players, got one go to guy, and surrounded him with complimentary players. Al Jefferson has been a 1st option in the past, and will be on this team. Bass, Zaza and Lopez are all very solid, hard working bigs. Lopez and Bass are both young, and in a great situation to develop well.
Overall: If you look at the old Suns team, they were truly in a bad position. They had a couple talented veterans, a few nice prospects, but nothing that resembled a core or identity. They had a new coach and the team needed to move on from the mess that they were in. I gave this team an identity and a future. I have a legit first option in Jefferson, a very talented (and underrated) PG in Felton, 3 wings that compliment each other very nicely (AK47, CDR, Bell), and 2 nice big man that are young that will develop potentially into stars or great role players (Lopez, Bass). The team has a defensive mindset, and a half court game that will exploit all the talent that we have on this roster.

Why my team is better than before
While this team certainly isn't one that can get as far as the real Mavericks in the playoffs their chances of success in the future have been greatly improved. The Mavericks as they are now have some of the most bloated, long-term salaries in the game and really only have a window of about two years. My team, as assembled, should compete that last playoff spot now while having a decent shot at getting two lottery picks (Houston and Milwaukee) via trade. Not only that, but my team has two great, great post players that will give other teams fits on offense and defense in Brook Lopez and Greg Oden. My wings are also vastly underrated as Hayward looks like Ginobili v2 and Henderson has suddenly broken out to be the best player on his team. Beno Udrih is also a solid player and came with a really low asking price. Is he great? No. But, he gets the job done and has a short contract that lines me up perfectly to be a huge free agency player.
The future
My team possibly has one of the brightest futures in the game. We are set up to be major players in free agency, have several young players who are highly coveted and high draft picks in the deep 2012 draft. Remember that I am going to be at a cap number of $28,000,000 and then about $34,000,000 after signing my draft picks....that leaves me with about $26,000,000 left for free agency. Pretty sweet, huh? And you know that guy Deron? He's from Texas.
Post All-Star 2011
Brook Lopez (25 games) 23p 6r 2a .5s 2b
Gerald Henderson (24 games) 14p 4r 2a 1s (16p 5r 4a in April)
Gordon Hayward (23 games) 9p 3r 2a 1s (16p 3r 3a in April)
Austin Daye (24 games) 8p 4r 2a .5s 1b
Trevor Booker (17 games) 10p 7r 1a 1s 1b
2010
Greg Oden 11p 9r 1a 2b in 23 minutes
And the Rookies?
All of them have a lot of room to develop. We'll start with Jonas, the sixth pick, he is like a young Marc Gasol - he finishes with the ball high, he's long and a great rebounder. Once his frame fills out (which it has been doing steadily) he'll be a key part of my team, either as Oden's replacement or as a piece in a sign and trade for a guy like Deron Williams.
With the 26th pick in the draft Dallas added Josh Selby, who at the beginning of the season was very much in the discussion to be a high lottery pick. He had a bad year in a system that did not suite his skills, but with his tremendous potential and skill he should shoot up draft boards come June.
With the 28th pick we added the steal of the draft in JaJuan Johnson. He is built to be a force on offense and defense, he is by far the best center in the NCAA and should be in the same discussion as Jared Sullinger for top big in the land. He's got great length and strength, a good motor, a variety of scoring moves and is the best defensive post in college basketball.
Finally, with the 31st pick we added another highly underrate player in Nikola Vucevic. He's an inside out 17-10 player in college, he's only 20, he's 6-10, has great instincts around the hoop and plays nice defense. Vucevic should surprise a lot of people when his name is in the discussion for the all-rookie teams this coming season.

BEFORE
I inherited a team going downhill. Even with Deron Williams, Utah was a borderline playoff team, after he was traded, they went 8-17 (a 26 win pace) so something needed to be done.
Utah had a decent core of players, but the real gem is Favors. He has a chance to be something special.
GOALS
-move a PF or 2, Favors ideally is a PF and Utah has Jefferson, Okur, AK, Millsap, and Favors who could all play the 4. If Favors is my franchise player, I decided I needed to make room for him on my team.
-get another young piece that compliments Favors and who I can build around
Why My Team Is Better
1) Direction, rather then being in limbo, we are rebuilding.
2) Better Fit, rather then having a ton of PF's and being deficient elsewhere, we have talent at other positions as well.
3) The future, Gallinari and Favors compliment each other perfectly. The rest of our lineup, has a chance to be something special as well.
PG: This is where we have the least potential for the future. Farmer is a good backup PG and provided the right situation could have a bounce back year. Malcolm Lee is the backup, we really like Lee and think he'll have a solid NBA career like recently drafted UCLA G's Collison and Holliday. Quinn is here as a 3rd PG and a veteran presence on a young team.
SG: After acquiring Fields, I was thinking of moving him; but there just are not many good young SG's around the league right now. Fields is very effective at what he does, he can be a 4th/5th option on any team in the league. I think he fits in well next to Gallinari on the wings. We like Pondexter as a backup, he's been productive in the minutes he's received, and he'll get more minutes playing here in Utah. Azubuike is a veteran-depth signing, but he's only a few years removed from being a solid player, and he's still young. He will be given the time to recuperate and to maybe show that he's still an NBA-worthy player
SF: Gallinari provides me with my future 1-2 punch with Favors. He has dramatically improved in every season in the NBA so far. If he keeps it up, he will be a top 5 SF in no time. Casspi won't wow anyone, but he's the type of hustle player that every team would love to have on their bench. Nocioni provides veteran experience, I was tempted to waive him but his experience was just too valuable to let walk away.
PF: Favors has the potential to be amazing. With the trades that were made, he will be given every opportunity to reach that potential. Jones has the tools to be a good player and will be given chances to succeed. The 3rd PF is Thompkins who someone was around at #38 and could see some minutes as well.
C: Seraphin/Biyombo/Nogueira all have a ton of potential and upside. All 3 will be given minutes and a chance to develop.
Draft Picks: We have a possibility of having 5 2012 1st round picks in a fairly solid draft and of those 5 picks, the lowest pick this past year would have been #16, so there's a good chance that a few of those draft picks will be high ones. Plus we have an additional first in 2013 and 2014, and the draft rights to bertans and bogdanovic. We can use these assets either to bring in fresh blood or to use in a trade to acquire a missing piece.
Cap Space: We will have enough salary to offer a max deal next offseason. Utah might not be a prime spot, but if Favors/Gallinari have a solid year and if even one of Biyombo/Seraphin/Nogueira make big strides, there's a possibility that we could land one of the top tier free agents.

CHICAGO BULLS
ORIGINAL ROSTER
Rose Watson Pargo Lucas
Bogans Brewer
Deng Korver Butler
Boozer Gibson Scalabrine
Noah Asik Thomas
NEW ROSTER
John Wall/ DJ Augustine/ Eric Bledsoe/ Patrick Mills
Eric Gordon/ Jamal Crawford/ Jordan Crawford/ Brandon Rush
James Posey/ Kyle Korver/ Lazar Hayward
Greg Monroe/ Jan Vesely
Roy Hibbert/ Joel Pryzbilla
ROTATION
John Wall (36) DJ (10) Bledsoe (2)
Eric Gordon (36) Jamal Crawford (9) DJ (3)
James Posey (21) Jamal Crawford (15) Kyle Korver (12)
Greg Monroe (32) Jan Vesley (11) James Posey (5)
Roy Hibbert (33) Joel Pryzbilla (15)
GOALS
- Was pretty much to blow this team up. Not that it needed it allthough im not as high as everyone on Rose and believe its very hard for a team to win a championship with a PG that takes so many shots.
- My intentions where to get a couple of young stud/ future all stars maybe even superstars. In Wall and Gordon I think I have 2 future stars. In Monroe and Hibbert I think I have at the least 2 future all star bigs.
THE NOW
- The upcoming season will be very exciting for Chicago. Allthough I dont think we will be competing for a championship I think we will be fighting for about the 4th or 5th seed.
THE FUTURE
- This team has arguably the brightest future in the NBA. Our backcourt rotation of Wall/ Gordon and Crawford with Mills and Bledsoe young up and comers behind them. Wall and Gordon are 2 future star gaurds of the NBA. Our Frontcourt whilst lacking depth has amazing length and also a very huge future with 2 great young bigs. With a veteran in Przbilla and a great young psospect in Vesley to back up.

Picks:
2013 2nd round pick(Toronto)
2014 2nd round pick(Toronto)
Direction?
When we took over the Raptors they were stuck. They had bad contracts on the team, and didn't have much young talent to work with either. Right away we wanted to shed the bad contracts, now we feel we have no contracts that are holding us back. They also only had 2 prospects on the team that would be above average starters on the team(Derozan, Davis). Now our team has 5 above average starters, with Jrue Holiday being only 20 years old, he still has a ton of room to grow and we feel he has more potential than any of the players Toronto had before.
Why did I do a good job?
Well, now we have a legitimate contender. Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson make up one of the better duos in the game. Both are all-stars, and right around the top 5 at their positions. Then we add in a young, do it all point guard in Jrue Holiday(who we feel will be the next Chauncey Billups..leadership, defense, floor general), one of the best 3rd options in the game, Caron Butler, and then an athletic Center, Marcin Gortat, who is a very good post defender.
Our team fits together very well also. Jrue Holiday plays without the ball a lot, as he splits time with Iggy in Philadelphia, and of course Joe Johnson is a ball dominant guard. Then we have excellent spacing from our starting 5, and our bench. Our bench has 3 of the top 10 3 point shooters in the NBA by %(Matt Bonner-#1, Luke Ridnour-#5, Reggie Williams-#10), Martell Webster shot 41% as well. The team will be very hard to guard, with the simple fact, that you can't double team because you will get burned by the 3 ball. Then on defense, Holiday is an excellent defender at PG, and he can defend SGs. Joe Johnson is a good defender, who has known for his defense in PHX, before being traded. Butler tries on defense, and does a solid job. Bosh struggles with bigger guys in the post, but he's excellent in the pick and roll, and in face up situations. Gortat can take on the bigger guys that give Bosh trouble, he is an excellent post defender, and a very good shotblocker, and rebounder.
Then we feel we are bringing one of the best benches into the game as well. Luke Ridnour, IMO is the best backup point guard in the NBA. Takes care of the ball, makes smart passes, among the top in the league in 3pt%, ft%, and he is money from mid-range as well(57% last year, 45% this year). Reggie Williams is a scorer, lead the NCAA in scoring 3 times, was a monster in the d-league, and showed he can put up points for the Warriors as well. He has a good handle, and a deadly stroke from 3(42%). Martell Webster can play some d, shoot the 3(42%), and this year he showed a post up game, and ability to get to the line(3 attempts in 23 minutes). Anthony Tolliver and Matt Bonner are the ultimate role players for a coach. They hustle, draw charges, move the ball, hit 3's, and are okay with not playing if it comes to that. Chris Andersen is one of the leagues best energy players. He gets the crowd going with his athletic dunks, and his blocks. Denver's defense is 6 points better when the Birdman is on the floor, mainly because of his ability to alter shots in the paint.
To toss out a couple more statistics to show people just how valuable Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson, and Jrue Holiday are to their teams.
Chris Bosh - The heat are 10 points better when he's on the floor. Obviously he's not as good as LBJ or Wade, but that is the highest mark on the team! Bosh is the most important piece for that team. He makes their defense and offense both by 5 points.
Jrue Holiday - The 76ers offense is 7 points better with Jrue on the floor, showing that despite being so young he is already an excellent PG who can run the offense. The stats show that their defense isn't as good with him on the floor, but watching games he has everything you want in a defender. He stays in front of his man, has long arms, athletic, and gets into the passing lanes.
Joe Johnson - The hawks are 6 points better with Johnson on the floor, and 5.7 points better on offense. Showing me that my offense is going to be very hard to stop. Johnson, Holiday, and Bosh are all very good passers/playmakers for their positions.

New Jersey Nets

Depth Chart
PG: Steve Nash/Jose Calderon
SG: Manu Ginolbi/Vince Carter
SF: Richard Jefferson/Quinton Richardson
PF: Carl Landry/Drew Gooden
Cc: Dwight Howard/Jason Collins

Writeup
We started out with DWill, Lopez a terrible contract in Outlaw and expirings/marginal role players. We now have Nash, who is a downgrade at the PG spot, but not by much. Nash was 15/11 on 50/40/90 which is elite. We feature Manu at the other guard position who is behind only Wade and Kobe at his position. Jefferson and Landry take up the F spots, both are solid role players who know their role on this team. Jefferson is 40% from 3 and Landry is a tough as nails, rugged PF. Our prized acquisition though is at center. Lopez was good. Howard is great. Possibly the most valuable player in the league, and certainly top 2 in terms of play. His defensive impact reminds us of Hakeem's (blasphemous I know) and 23ppg is a huge improvement over the past year.
We feel that we can contend with any team in the league (NYK,BOS,DEN,MEM,MIN) due to our devastating 3 point shooting on the perimeter and our post play. Nash running the pick and roll with Howard, Ginobli closing out games, Landry and Jefferson hitting hide open shots..we like what we've done with the New Jersey Nets.

WHAT WE STARTED WITH?
When I took over the GSW, the previous GM had gutted the team' talent and traded players for pennies on the dollar. The team had a bunch of low first round and second round picks and only Stephen Curry as a significant player. Needless to say, the team was a bottom feeder (and I am being generous).
WHAT DID I DO?
I had to be really crafty with my trades and decided that this year's draft is not worthy of holding on to the picks. I had the 3rd pick which wasn't going to net me a franchise-altering player. Instead, I decided to build around Steph and traded away all my picks. I also had to get rid of bad contracts of charlie Bell and Matt Carroll and used current and future picks to do that.
I have always had a defense-first mindset and decided to fill my team with athletes who can use their quickness to stay in front of players and whom a good defensive system could employ. I wanted to have athletes that can run the floor and get out and run on breaks. At the same time, I understood that the team will have to be equally adapt at playing a half-court game if it had to have long-term success.
I cleared out cap space and decide to build the team via trades and free agency.
KEY TRADES:
- I traded for Josh Smith to give me defense, athleticism and finishing on the wing and chose to employ him at the SF position, something he is currently doing very well in Atlanta in real life.
- Traded Jason Richardson for JR Smith and Jeff Teague. We signed Jason as a FA on a 5 year, 35 million dollar contract, which was very reasonable deal. But when we were presented with an opportunity of trading for JR smith (younger, cheaper and a much more dynamic player at this point) as well as an up and coming PG in Teague (his playoff performance is already impressing people), we had to pull the trigger. I feel Teague can become a starter for us in the near future with Curry sliding over to the SG position.
KEY FA SIGNINGS:
- I wanted a big low-post present as it is crucial to have a big man down low who can command double teams, score with the best of them and open up the floor for the rest of the team. Enter ZACH RANDOLPH. I wasn't going to overpay for any FA, which tends to happen a lot in this game. Instead, I was fortunate enough to land him on a very reasonable $71 MILLION over 5 YEARS deal. To get a top PF at the price in this game was a big win IMO.
- I also signed a bunch of vets including MIKE DUNLEAVY, AL THORNTON, REGGIE EVANS etc to one-year contracts as I wanted to keep cap flexibility going into the 2012 Free agency where the likes for Howard, Williams and Paul will be FA's and we will be pursuing them, HARD!
- I also took a flyer on YAO MING on the 2 year, 8 million dollar deal of which the 2nd year is a team option. We will see if Yao can recover and contribute. If not, we will still be able to maintain cap flexibility going into 2012 by declining his option. If he indeed works out, that gives us an extra incenive of attracting a big name FA in 2012 on the team. A win-win!
FUTURE OUTLOOK:
I believe a core of Curry-Teague-Smith-Smith-Randolph is pretty darn good going forward and we will have close to 16 million in cap space in the summer of 2012 enabling us to add another Max FA ala Howard, Williams or Paul. We have the assets to make moves and a bunch of picks as well as expiring contracts that we can dangle in the event a superstar becomes dis-illusioned and wants a trade. All in, all, we are pretty set going forward and will continue to add pieces to make a contender.
I believe this team is a playoff team in the West and will continue to improve as Curry becomes the superstar he is destined to be. This team's core is young, athletic and provides help in the areas needed. All we need is a Strong Centre and we will be set. We are targetting Howard in the FA of 2012 and will see what happens. If we don't get him, we have enough assets to trade for other centres in this league.

Surrounding Melo with Defense is the best thing that has ever happened to him. With elite Defenders, True Veterans who know the game, great shooters, and a true 6th man, we feel we have one of the top teams in the league.
Battier can slow down the Wades / Brons / Kobes / ect of the world along with Brewer off the bench.
Garnett can slow down the Dirks / Boshs / Amares ect. of the world along with West of the bench.
Chandler can slow down the Howards / Bynums / Boguts of the world.
Melo can do all the scoring he wants, and will have plenty of other options around him Such as KG / Devin Harris / David West.
We have true balance on our team, but most of all LOCK DOWN DEFENSE.
I obviously made the team better, and gave them much more a chance to win now!
Thanks.

Draft Picks:
all but 2012 WAS 1st
Writeup:
I originally planned on fine tuning the roster by adding minor young pieces and maintaining my core of Wall/McGee. However, with the offers that were on the table I adjusted my gameplan. Ditching Rashard's contract was an important step in moving forward and being able to pick up a high 1st rounder and Ed Davis using McGee was critical to my future transactions. I used Ed Davis/Wall as the major pieces in landing Derrick Rose, and that draft pick ended up being first overall, which helped me acquire Al Jeff (later Marc Gasol), Batum and Wes Matthews. After that it was minor tweaks, adding guys I really liked to help build a championship calibre team around Rose.
My team's age range is something I like quite a bit, with most of my key guys around the same age:
- Derrick Rose (22)
- Mo Williams (28)
- Wes Matthews (24)
- Nicolas Batum (22)
- Sam Young (25)
- Kawhi Leonard (20)
- David Lee (28)
- Marc Gasol (26)
- Taj Gibson (25)
- Channing Frye (27)
---------------------------------
- Brendan Haywood (31)
- Tracy McGrady (31)
- Mo Evans (32)
- Eddie House (32)
Overall I'm very happy with the outcome and pleased with my team's chances now and in the future.
Gameplan:
I'm very confident I've assembled a team that can win an NBA Championship now and be a contender for many years to come. Derrick Rose has taken the league by storm and after acquiring him, I knew I needed some quality big men. The first would be a big with offensive skill that can open up offensive options for the team via the pick and roll. I don't think there was a more perfect fit for this role than David Lee. He's excellent at rolling to the basket quickly and has the range to shoot the mid-range jumper comfortably if given any space. His rebounding/passing skills are extremely valuable as well. I was also extremely happy with being able to add Marc Gasol, his low-post ability, rebounding and shotblocking are an awesome compliment to the rest of the squad and he's already used to sharing the frontcourt with other talented players. On the wings, Nic Batum and Wes Matthews are solid defenders who can space the floor and don't need shots to be effective/impact a game.
I believe my bench is another strength, especially up front where Haywood/Frye/Gibson will be getting minutes. Haywood/Gibson bring the grit and defensive ability often required when facing bigger teams, as well as in the playoffs. Frye is a killer from 3 that can go off when he gets hot. At the backup wing spots, I've got Sam Young, who has been extremely solid for Memphis with his athleticism and tough defense, as well as T-Mac, who has shown he can still play this season. I'm also very high on Kawhi Leonard, who projects to go around the top 10 in the upcoming draft. His energy/motor/defensive ability are his major strengths and his range is apparently much improved. Mo Williams is a solid backup who I feel will adjust well to being in a bench role, where he can come in with less pressure and be more aggressive putting the ball on the floor/looking for his own shot. Mo Evans/Eddie House round out the bench as servicable depth guys.

I think the real life Pacers are in a bad spot, they are stuck in the middle of the pack. They can make the playoffs every couple years but are usually one and done. I wanted to rebuild the team and aquire young defensive style players to go forward. I think the young starting 5 with Collison and Tristan Thompson will be a great group of players in a few seasons

Re: GM A TEAM Spring 2011 - Writeups
Philadelphia 76ers
The Start
The 76ers were in a weird position. Overall they were a pretty average team talent wise, with Doug Collins bringing out the absolute most out of them. They had some good young players (Holiday, Turner, Young, etc), but also some bad contracts (Brand, Nocioni, maybe even Iggy). The team constructed as of now would have been stuck in mediocrity for a long time, unless both Holiday and Turner turned into All-Stars. Holiday maybe, Turner I don't really see it. Something had to be done.
What I Wanted To Do
Clear cap space
Get future picks
Get a player with legit star potential
The Result
Rotation:
C - DeMarcus Cousins (36) / Kwame Brown (12)
PF - Anthony Randolph (32) / Derrick Williams (16)
SF - Thaddeus Young (36) / Derrick Williams (12)
SG - James Anderson (26) / Othyus Jeffers (22)
PG - Jonny Flynn (35) / Sebastian Telfair (13)
Picks:
2012 -- 76ers 1st, Nets 1st, Blazers 1st, 76ers 2nd, Nets 2nd, Mavericks 2nd, Kings 2nd
2013 -- 76ers 1st
2014 -- 76ers 1st, Blazers 1st, Kings 1st, 76ers 2nd, Nuggets 2nd
First off, I was able to clear Brand, Iguodala, AND Nocioni's contracts for essentially pure expirings. Brand and Nocioni's deals were near impossible to move, but I found a way. A good chunk of this cap space ended up going towards Thaddeus Young, but we basically had no choice, as he is a big part of our team going forward. When you rebuild you want to clear all bad and long term contracts and start fresh - I feel like I did that here.
Talent wise, yeah it's a downgrade from before. However, I still like what I ended up with. Cousins is our future star. We think he will make many All-Star teams in his career and even has the potential to become a superstar. We're very excited to have him. We were able to pair him with Derrick Williams. We think Williams can be a Danny Granger type player, which will fit perfectly with Cousins. Williams is 19, Cousins is 20 - the potential of this duo is amazing.
Then I have Thaddeus Young and Anthony Randolph as excellent role players. Randolph has played terrificly in Minny, so I don't see why he can't do that here. This isn't the only time he's gone on one of these streaks - happened in GS too. Is averaging a double double in a season out of the question? I don't think so. Young getting extended minutes should see improved production as well.
Lastly ,the wild card - Jonny Flynn. We brought him in because of the slight chance he'll break out with us. We know Flynn can score, distribute, and make things happen, but the Wolves' tri offense didn't let him play his game. We will have a more free flowing offense, so Flynn could see his production increase. He's only 22 himself, and has time to improve upon things.
Now the upcoming 2012 draft. We have 3 1st rounders and 4 2nd rounders, including my 2012 1st. Looking at my roster, we are very inexperienced and raw, so we are bound for a top 5 pick. Our biggest needs are obviously SG and PG. Mike Gilchrist, Harrison Barnes, Bradley Beal, and Austin Rivers can all play SG and all have star potential. Look these guys up, look at their youtube videos, I honestly see star potential out of all four of these guys - that's how deep this draft is going to be. And this doesn't include the bigs (A Davis, P Jones, J Sullinger) that we could possibly draft then move for a guard. Then later in the draft with one of our other first rounders, we could pick up a Myck Kabongo or Marquis Teague (Both PGs), both who have high potential. Overall, this deep draft is going to help us a lot going forward, and we'll be loaded with young talent after since we have 7 picks (3 1sts, 2 high 2nds, 2 mid 2nds).
Free agency, there's many guards we can go after. CP3, Deron Williams, DJ Augustin, Raymond Felton, OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, just to name a few. So between our top 5 pick and free agency, we can definitely add two high level guards to our squad.
Where We'll Be In 5 Years
Overall I think I did a solid job here. Potentially after 2012 I will have 3 stars (Cousins, Williams, 2012 pick), plus two great role players (Young, Randolph) taking up most of my rotation. Plus I have free agency and tons of picks (look at 2014) going forward to add another good starter and to make an excellent bench. This team was rebuilt the right way, so In 5 (or less) years, this team could realistically be the next OKC.

Writeup
sorry im late but just moved and only just got back on.
Anyways I took the team with the idea of building a contender while getting a little younger and putting interest in the future of the franchise.
My first move to do this was to move ray allen for a similar caliber player who was a little younger. I got G Wallace.
Similarly i moved KG to get Boozer cause I honestly felt that KGs dominant presence is now gone in the NBA. He dosent get respect the same as Duncan dosent because of his age. Boozer is a few years younger and is a key piece on this years Chicago team. Getting Hickson in the deal was a bonus for me as I would have did the trade without him.
Jeff Green is massively overpaid but in this game all FA are especially RFA ones. I got him on a better deal than what anyone else could have to be exact. He has two options.
1. Sign a 5 year offer sheet for 88 million with some other team. He would have been over 20 million a year
2. Sign a 6 year 90 million dollar contract with me. I got him for 15 million a year flat.
There was no way I was trading Rondo. Some of the offers I got were just terrible but i just sent back a NO. He is the centerpiece of the current Celtice team.
Getting Okafor was kinda iffy on my part but JO was atrocious and still is. Okafor gives me almost 2 blocks a game and 10 rebs so im happy with that.
One of my goals actually was to improve Bostons rebounding. They are currently a terrible rebounding team. With the addition of G Wallace and Okafor I fixed that.
Paul Pierce, hes my go to guy. There were some offers for him that I liked but in the end none gave me that finisher to close out games. So while he is old he was just too valuable a piece on a championship contending team to let him go for garbage.
Why I will have the best team in 5 years.
Player Age now
Rondo 25
Green 25
Wallace 29
Boozer 30
Okafor 29
Hickson 23
Davis 25
but currently the team is ready to compete for a championship for the next 5 years and I like that about the squad.
