All NBA Reject Draft Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by Snakebites » Thu Oct 20, 2011 9:29 pm

Rules:

1) Standard ATL format, but only players who have never made an All NBA (or ABA) First Team in their careers are eligible to be drafted. All seasons including this past one are available.

2) ABAB draft order.

Teams: Bare minimum: 8. Prefer 12. If interest is greater may be willing to move up from that.

In the past, attempts have been made to "tweak" the standard ATL model, and for one simple reason: there is the tendency for similar cores and combinations of players to win every single time.

A number of other games have been made to get around this problem this, including era stipulation games and a game that eliminated the 9 best players of all time. Though all of those were very successful, it never really feels like they went far enough. This game represents an attempt to allow people to create completely novel teams.

Thus, I propose an ATL in which only players who NEVER made an All NBA FIRST team in their careers are available. It will place the emphasis on balance and team construction and away from star power. There are no "obvious" top picks that entail a particular advantage. Every player in this draft has their own limitations, and as a result I feel that a standard snake (ABAB) draft order is appropriate.

Signups:

1) Snakebites
2) Keeslinator
3) TMACFORMVP
4) lukekarts
5) poodamoop
6) BlackIce
7) sterncohen
8) Riotpunch
9) SamBone
10) Miller
11) 5th pick sucks
12) Cellardoor

I'm in.

So this is an all-time draft, but no one can be on a All-NBA 1st team?

Correct.

No player who has ever been named to an All NBA or ABA first team may be drafted.

Blazer50 - I would like to try this game - too many rosters / games dominated by super stars and not balanced.

Let me know if we designate teams or what all is involved if you get the response you need.

Not sure what you mean by "designate teams".

Draft positions are randomly determined and everyone builds a team from scratch in a 10 round draft.

There is no salary, this isn't that type of game.

You build a team using your draft picks and compete against other teams in a tournament format. There are no trades.

Let me know whether or not that is something that you want to play in.

We now have 12 tentative signups. I'd be receptive to pushing it to 16 if we can gain 4 more people. Very pleased to see the level of interest in this game. We'll have to play it by ear to see whether or not we can get 4 more people in.
