GM a Team: Twenty Twelve Edition - 2012 Free Agency

Post#1 » by -Kees- » Thu Jan 19, 2012 11:43 am

Here is how free agency will work. It will officially start January 22nd at 6 PM EST.

OPT IN: These players have a contract and are not FAs

RFAs: Once free agency starts, RFAs can be signed at any time (will give 36 hour buffer period so that it's not first come first served). All RFAs will all be in the same pool, so if you want one, offer away and if he likes the offer, he will sign, if he does not, then he will wait. Teams with matching power have 48 hours to match.

S&Ts: One of the teams must contact me with contract and trade details, the other must send me an email confirming that they agree. Then, if the FA signs, one team will post in FA thread that the player signed, and also in the trades thread.

UFAs: Tier 1 will be handled by Luke, send offers to him at lukekarts@googlemail.com. Each tier will last almost exactly 36 hours. So, as you can guess, both Tier 1 FAs will be decided by January 24th at 6 AM EST. I will be handling Tiers 2-4, so for those tiers, send offers to Keeslinator@gmail.com.

If a player does not receive an offer he likes, or doesn't receive an offer at all, he will simply drop to the tier below and become part of that one, hopefully getting new and better offers.

Tier 5 is a bidding system, just like last game. Teams that still have cap, MLE or MMLE can bid on players. Or you can bid with a minimum bid. 24 hour clock, highest bidder wins. Max of 2 per 24 hours. Pretty easy.

Misc: The 60M soft cap will not change. Teams under the 75M lux tax have full MLE, teams over that have a mini MLE:

Mini MLE: Allowed to offer at most three years starting at $3 million in the first two years, with the starting point increasing 3 percent in subsequent years (three years, 9.1 million is the maximum contract allowed).

MLE: Allowed to offer up to four-year deals starting at $5 million in the first two years, with the starting point increasing by 3 percent in subsequent years (four years, 20.5 million will be the maximum contract allowed to be offered).

Teams with Bird Rights can offer 5 years instead of 4.

Code: Select all

Here are the max contracts:

0-6 years in the league: Starting at $15,000,000
7-9 years in the league: Starting at $18,000,000
10+ years in the league: Starting at $21,000,000

Teams with Bird Rights can offer a max of 5 years, 7.5% raises
Teams without Bird Rights can offer a max of 4 years, 4.5% raises

Can I just get an explanation on why Gerald Wallace would opt out? In real life he's not going to get more money than he's getting now, and he's on a championship caliber team... Oh well, this part of GM'ing games is always it's downfall.

Did the salary cap stay at $60m?

IMO, because he's 30, and coming off a good season. A contender would easily give him the full MLE, maybe even more. I would certainly pay more than the MLE.

Locking up a four-year deal now would be better, even if he gets a little less. There's no guarantee that he'll be fine after one more season, especially with his style of play and the injuries he suffered in the past.

Not only that, there are tons of teams that have a lot of cap space, but the 2012 FA market is hella weak. Someone could easily overpay for him.

Also, opting out doesn't necessarily mean that he's gonna leave your team. He wants his last, big longterm contract, just like any 30-year-old would.

A few main reasons:

1. As OP said, he is 30 and coming off a great season, looking for a long-term payday.
2. A report came out saying he will opt out in RL to get more money, even if he decides to stay on his old team.
3. He has opted out twice in these games before, and he got max or near max money both times, so im expecting him to get a long-term dealworth more than 9.5M per year.

not that it means anything, but i always assumed he wanted to opt out and try and re-sign with the Bobcats, he wasn't happy about being traded. however, now that Roy is done and the Blazers are playing well, he might not do it in RL... but this is the game and he always opts out.

i think Jamal Crawford and Jameer Nelson could also opt out.. if not in this game, future games. they are good players that would get a lot of good offers.

Yeah, Jamal may have been a bit of a wrong decision, but he most likely will get the same MLE type money a year later, so him taking 5.4M this year, the 5M the year after seems somewhat right.

Hey guys,

Yeah I'll be Dwight & Deron's agent.

I'll come back here with more details in the next day or so (including email to submit your offer to), but basically, you will need to make sure you specify:

1. Contract offer
2. Why he should sign with your team
3. Prove you have cap space

Neither of these guys will take long to decide. Make sure your bids are prompt - if you're not sending me your offer right on the opening of FA, you're not keen enough.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Denver is going to buy out Reggie Williams' one-year $2,500,000 contract. We have the available cash to do this.
