Why I Think I Did Best Job?
Well turning a complete disaster of a team even with the #1 pick into a young deep playoff and championship contender was kind of hard. Similar to Miami's style Gordon/Gay/Lee are the main pieces. Gordon/Gay are both young all-around players and Lee is a double-double machine. Even though he's not much a defensive presence, the front-court help of Martin/Asik/Andersen is more than enough to cover for that. Conley is a great distributor even when he's not the #1/2/3 option on a team so he fits perfectly into the team. As far as the bench goes Hinrich/Bogans/Pietrus/Martin/Andersen is a great defensive 5. With the 3rd string we have a possible future PG (whether backup or starting) in Lillard, a 3-point master with Kapono, a young scorer in Brown, the d-league defensive player of the year in Johnson, and the guaranteed championship player with Scalabrine. May be low on picks and somewhat cash but this team will be a force for years and our picks would be late 20's maybe even a 30 anyway.

Bottom line, we're young, talented, have the correct depth, and in my mind perfectly built to compliment eachother. Went from without a doubt the worst team in the league to a championship contender in one off-season.

2014 LA Clippers 2nd (Top 55 protected)
2015 San Antonio 1st
2015 San Antonio 2nd

$7M in Cash

Why I Think I Did A Good Job?
Well considering what I was given and what I ended up with I guess I did ok. We're pretty good with future cap space. No terrible contracts to worry about which is key for a rebuilding franchise. Every player is pretty much on-point with what they're making or severely underpaid (Ilyasova). Let's face it, these guys aren't going anywhere, BUT there is a good amount of talent at each position. And not only that, we're stacked on draft picks which is also a good thing. We have $7M in cash to do whatever with (wouldn't buyout Kleiza since he only has one year remaining after the season). This is no-doubt a top 5 lotto team, but also with the right one or two players added in could be a decent squad.
Dammit...:

I've got Nurkic fever now.

TORONTO RAPTORS

Depth chart at the beginning of the game:
Jose Calderon / Jerryd Bayless / Anthony Carter
Demar Derozan / Gary Forbes / Rasual Butler
James Johnson / Linus Kleiza
Amir Johnson / Ed Davis
Andrea Bargnani / Aaron Gray / Jamaal Magloire / Solomon Alabi

Depth chart at the end of the game:
Stephen Curry (34) / Goran Dragic (14) / C.J. Watson
Andre Iguodala (36) / Corey Brewer (12) / Marco Belinelli
Danilo Gallinari (34) / Chase Budinger and/or Andre Kirilenko (14)
Ryan Anderson (32) / Darrell Arthur and/or Andre Kirilenko (16) / D.J. White
Jonas Valanciunas (30) / Ekpe Udoh (18) / Hamed Haddadi

Writeup:
This one seems pretty simple to me. None of the guys I started out with is in the top 10 at his position; in fact, it would be reasonable to argue that none of them is in the top 20. At the end of the game, we don't know how Valanciunas will turn out, but every other starter is in the top 10 and several of them are arguably in the top 5. (PER comparison below.)

Today's PER rankings, old vs. new:
PG - Jose Calderon 27th; Stephen Curry 7th
SG - Demar Derozan 50th; Andre Iguodala 6th (at SF; would be 7th at SG)
SF - James Johnson 22nd; Danilo Gallinari 4th
PF - Amir Johnson 36th; Ryan Anderson 8th
C - Andrea Bargnani 22nd; Jonas Valanciunas ??

The bench (Dragic / C. Brewer / Budinger / Arthur or Kirilenko / Udoh) is among the best in the game - in fact, it may be better than the real Raptors starting lineup. Every significant player is young and still getting better; the salary figure is manageable; and we haven't sacrificed any future picks along the way.

Point Guard:
Image to Image
This is admittedly a clear downgrade at the position. John Wall has enormous upside, but at the end of the day we didn't believe in him enough to move forward with him as "our guy". There are limitations with him that we felt would hold him back from stardom. Jeff Teague is a young guy we really like, and he can do everything that we want out of the position. This is an area that we will look to improve in next year's draft or in the upcoming free agency.
Shooting Guard:
Image to Image
This position is an area that this organization is proud of. Matthews is a very talented player signed to a very reasonable contract. This was a clear upgrade over Young, who is nothing but an athletic chucker. Young was a chemistry killer, Matthews is a fantastic teammate and "glue guy".
Small Forward:
Image to Image
This is another huge upgrade for us. Rashard Lewis was an overpaid, over the hill wing who did not at all fit the direction we wanted to head in as an organization. We were able to amnesty him and use that money and flexibility to ultimately bring in Wilson Chandler. Chandler brings, much like Matthews, the "team first" mentality. He also provides good scoring and great defense, making our perimeter defense elite.
Power Forward:
Image to Image
This one is easy. We landed the 5th pick in the draft to select the 2nd best player in college basketball. Thomas Robinson has the skill-set to be the next Blake Griffin. He is a monster in the paint and has NBA All-Star written all over him. We look for him to be a feature player on our squad for many years. He can score, he can defend and he is one of the best rebounders in the draft. Blatche was just a kid who didn't get it and made a lot of money, Robinson is a MASSIVE upgrade.
Center:
Image to Image
This was our greatest accomplishment. We believe that Anthony Davis is the best player to come out of the draft since Kevin Durant and he has a skill-set that we've never seen in the NBA. We can't wait to develop Davis into the best player in the NBA, let alone best center. He's gonna spend a lot of time in our weight room to bulk up, but he and Robinson form an elite frontcourt for the future and they complement each other extremely well. JaVale has some promise as a shot blocker and lob target, but his intelligence level and heart were just non existent. We had no choice but to part ways with him, and this upgrade speaks for itself.
The Bench
We held onto two role players we really like in Trevor Booker and Shelvin Mack, and we were able to bring in some rookie talent that we really like in DJO, Satoransky and Moser. We are thrilled with out PF/C rotation, which includes the likes of Chris Kaman, Darko Milicic and Channing Frye. All guys who will make Davis and Robinson feel comfortable during their transition as rookies.

Overall:
Our goal going into this was to improve the product on the court. Our team had become the laughing stock of the NBA, and we needed to change the culture. Fast. We were able to shed our "bad eggs", and bring in young and exciting talent for the future. The guys we have brought in are unselfish, team first players. We feel like once Robinson and Davis get adjusted to the pro game, we will be a contender in the East. We also were able to hold onto all of our future draft picks, so we will continue to add good young talent through the draft. We should win this game because of the massive culture change and the massive overall talent upgrade we were able to accomplish. We had a bunch of guys that no one wanted and that no one valued fairly, but we were still able to put together a damn good team featuring the most coveted player in the 2012 Draft. We are young, we are smart, we are athletic, and we play damn suffocating defense.

Writeup

As per my objectives, my goal was to make Indiana a better team now and for the foreseeable future. I'm pretty confident I achieved that, and in my own style (without just trading for assets, and keeping my core in tact). There were a lot of tempting offers along the way, including trading for Carmelo amongst others, but I never quite felt I could add that star player without sacrificing the majority of my roster.

Winning now

I ended the 2011/12 season with Nash/George/Granger/Garnett/Hibbert, good enough for the top 4 in the league. IMO it was one of the strongest, considering the depth on the bench, and I went into the following season trying to improve. Unfortunately I didn't quite get where I wanted to be, so I began to look more towards the future.

Winning in the future

Roy Hibbert, top 5 Center and showing excellent year on year progression, alongside Paul George - supremely long, athletic guard-forward, were the key parts of the initial team. To that core, I've added John Wall, who I'm exceptionally high on, and whom has made massive leaps this season:

Image

Beyond that, Gerald Henderson - an excellent mid-range scorer, improving defender, who has shown flashes of great potential capped by a 29ppg performance just last night (13-19); Nikola Mirotic - who has drawn comparisons to Dirk Nowitzki and whom ESPN amongst others feel he would be a top 5 pick had he not been committed to Real Madrid for at least another year. For what it's worth, he's supremely efficient from all areas of the court and has been monthly MVP for one of Europe's best teams (Real Madrid).

It doesn't stop there either, Gary Neal has been a solid shooter for SAS and replaces the departed George Hill; and Kevin Seraphin, who has averaged 8.4 rebounds (71%), 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks since upping his minutes to 20 per game for March. He's built like a more athletic/taller Chuck Hayes.

Most importantly, I've surrounded these young players with really hard working, high character guys, who will ensure they are well mentored and benefit from playoff experience early in their career. Garnett, Battier, Zaza Pachulia, Jameer Nelson and Anthony Parker are all consummate professionals and part of the reason why this team is incredibly deep and talented.

A recap of ages: John Wall (21), Gerald Henderson (24) Paul George (21), Nikola Mirotic (21), Roy Hibbert (25). I would bet at least 3 of them are multiple All Stars, and John Wall has superstar potential.

The other thing to note is this team will be absolutely devastating defensively. The front court will probably be the best in the NBA, and Wall/Henderson/George have great potential on the defensive end.

Progression

Effectively, I upgraded point guard massively, and made substantial improvements at PF and C, particularly in terms of depth, without sacrificing the future.

Flexibility

I've got at least $10m cap space next season, and the $63m payroll is very much affordable for Indiana. I've got no negative assets on the books - the team is very much built with the future in mind and I've got plenty of assets available.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Organization:

i) Introduction
ii) 2012 Team and Depth Chart
ii) 2013 Team and Depth Chart
iv) 2013 and on Salaries
v) Draft picks
vi) Concluding remarks

i) Introduction

Lets start with Houston's old roster:

Lowry/Dragic/Flynn
Martin/Lee/
Parsons/Buginger/Terrence Williams
Scola/Patterson/ Adrien
Dalembert/Hill/Thabeet

A borderline playoff team, without the scorers weak defenders and on longer contracts. Enough cap space to be a serious contender in free agency, but with a glaring need at sf and not a clear route to address that. A team stuck in the middle, with a protected future first owed for Terrence Williams :( . Barring signing a top notch free agent, rebuilding and pushing off the future pick might be the most logical direction. But with Martin and Scola's contracts, a liquidation sale is difficult.

What did Houston do? We did 2 entirely separate things. First we put together a playoff team for 2012, trying to create a defensive force capable of winning at least a round, while not mortgaging the future and still staying below the luxury tax. Then following the 2012 season, we (sold the next season worth of tickets) burned it to the ground and set the basis for a future dynasty to emerge.

ii) 2012 team
While injuries might have effected our playoff seeding, we suceded in our goal of fielding a playoff lineup of:

Lowry/Augustin / I. Thomas /AJ Price
Rip/ C. Lee / D. Jones
Pierce/ LMAM / Budinger
Vaerajo/Patterson /
Dalembert/Jason Thompson / Battie

That lineup has the needed go to scorer and first option in Pierce, more so one who is a complete player on both sides of the court. The ability to to play Varejao both as a backup center and as a pf paired with Dalembert when facing the bigger teams (Lakers with Gasol + Bynum, Memphis with (Zach + Gasol) was an essential move, and created a front court capable of shutting down and making those teams work. Jason Thompson and Patrick Paterson form a four man rotation with just about any combo of the 4 working and leaving us a top 5 defensive team easily. Moving from Martin to Rip isn't much of a downgrade considering Pierce can pick up the scoring load, and completes the shift to a defensive team. Augustin off the bench just adds more scoring punch. With these additions, the team was better set to play and advance in the playoffs, and furthermore maintained if not added future assets. Given Lowry and Varejao were close to all star level, and Pierce was an all star, we had a lineup that could compete with anyone and possibly surprise a less complimentary favorite in a deep round.

Following a (disappointing to us) regular season record, Houston tweaked the lineup in free agency, letting Augustin go when the price was too high, resigning Lee and Thompson, adding Drago (for 6 million less then Augustin), and then making the tough decision to swap Dalembert for Humphries and field a smaller Humphries/Varejao frontcourt. At this point we had successfully managed to presale all season tickets, and we made the decision that it was time for direction 2.

We burnt it to the ground. Then we took the ashes, put them in a boat, sailed it across the sea, and sank it. So what exactly can you get when tearing everything down?

iii) 2013 team
3 first rounders, including the second pick in the 2012 draft (Barnes, Le'bryan Nash, Fournier). Keep in mind that we didn't even have our first rounder. Also, 3 second rounders in the 2012 draft, including a center projected by Dx as a first rounder next year (Buford, Withey, Radosevic -- left in Europe). WIth Barnes an elite level prospect and Nash having similar top line potetial, we felt we were adding some of the players needed to fully turn our team around in a rebuild.

Which maybe could be a pretty impressive haul (I have a hard time seeing a team giving a top 5 pick for Martin and Scola), but actually is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition, we added three 2011 first rounders (Vesely, Vucevic, Joseph), and 2 of the most impressive 2nd rounders from '11 (Isaiah Thomas and Jon Leuer). Just how good are the players from the '11 class we added? Oh, we didn't go for quanity, we added according to David Thorpe's redraft (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/ ... ch-redraft) the ranked #9 Vucevic-- a true 7 footer, #14 Vesely, and #17 Thomas. Oh, and we got to add to our roster #20 Motiejunas. In his regular rankings, Isaiah Thomas is currently the 5th best rookie, Vucevic is 13th and Leuer is 19th (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/players/ ... gs/_/set/1) And this might still be underselling Thomas, NBA.com lists him as 2nd on their rookie ladder http://www.nba.com/rookie-ladder/ . Together this gives us 6 players in their first season (Barnes, Nash, Fournier, Buford, Withey, and Montiejunas), and another 5 in their second year (Thomas, Joseph, Vesely, Leuer, Vucevic). Paterson was our holdover and as a 3rd year player in the 2013 season will be the veteran presence.

2013 Depth Chart:

Point Guard Isaiah Thomas / Cory Joseph
Shooting Guard Le'bryan Nash / Evan Fournier / Bufford
Small Forward Harrison Barnes / Jan Vesely / Gerald Green / Outlaw
Power Forward Patrick Patterson / Donatas Motiejunas / Jon Leuer
Center Nikola Vucevic / Glen Davis / Jeff Withey

The remaining players rounding out the depth chart are Glen Davis, Outlaw, and
Having fully discussed Green, I will add that while neither Big Baby nor Outlaw are great bargains for what they bring, the amount of salary flexibility the team has is still tremendous, as seen below. Furthermore, Glen Davis will be able to help fill the center rotation and eat minutes for the '13 season until the team drafts its center of the future, to ideally slide Vucevic to the backup position. Playing Davis with the starting rotation besides at the start of games will enable us to have an almost all European line of: __ /Fournier/Vesely/Motiejunas/Vucevic

Which might be enough for a great rebuild by itself, but then there is the issue of draft picks -- 5 firsts in 2013, 3 in 2014 and 3 more in 2015. We are in a position to get a top 5 pick next year, and with enough assets to consolidate and get at least 2 more top prospects. Oh, and along the way we managed to get a smattering of 2nds in case we ever wanted to start our own European team.

iv) Salaries
Total salaries are listed below for each year, with team options in blue and QO in red.

Image

The team has over 5.5 million in immediate cap space, and before any 2013 draft picks over 20 million in cap space. Furthermore, in the course of trading players, 3 TPE's greater then available cap space were acquired, ranging from 6.25 to 9.3 million, listed directly below. These are being retained, and enable the team to strongly consider taking a large (short) unproductive salary attached to enough of an asset. By having all our players of note under rookie contracts for another 3 if not 4 full years, we have amassed a war chest of cap space and kept expenses low.

TPE's
TPE 1: $9,300,000 (From Augustin)
TPE 2: 6,250,000 (From C.Lee for unsigned Fourier)
TPE 3: 8,400,000 (From Hump for picks)

In addition, we retained some of our cash, which otherwise could have reduced 2013 salaries further. The cash will most likely be pocketed by a thankful ownership group, but if an attractive deal arrives we can include the maximum cash, or shorten Outlaw's contract by a year.

Cash: 3 million

v) Draft Picks:

While we are proud of our young talent already on the roster, Houston's team has an equal stockpile pof talent waiting to join the team. Due to the sheer magnitude of quality prospects on the roster already, and then number of picks in upcoming drafts, it is expected that some consolidation will occur around the time of the 2013 draft, with the possibility of trading 2-3 mid-late firsts for an early pick. The 11 first round picks in the next 3 drafts are listed in bold, with the second rounders in plain font. Worth special note is that only the Sac pick and the Chicago pick have any protection, and of these the Chicago pick would turn into beer if it is not top 8.

2013 own first round pick -- Houston
2013 first round draft pick from Charlotte
2013 first round draft pick from LAL
2013 first round draft pick from Toronto
2013 first round draft pick from Sac (top 13 prot)

2013 second round pick from Detroit
2013 own second round pick -- Houston (if top 40)
2014 own first round pick -- Houston
2014 first round draft pick from Chicago (Top 8 protected) *** Turns into Beer ***
2014 first round draft pick from Portland

2014 second round draft pick from NOH
2014 second round pick from Minn
2015 own first round pick -- Houston
2015 first round draft pick Miami
2015 first round draft pick Charlotte

2015 own second round pick -- Houston (if 2013 or 2014 conveyed or if top 40)
2015 second round draft pick from Atlanta (top 58 protected)
2015 second rond pick from LAC (only if 51-55)

Conservatively, we believe we could slot in a top 5 pick at C and 2 lottery picks if not top 10 picks at pg and pf in the '13 draft. This would be expect to leave us somewhere between 12 and 15 million cap space still, and room to offer one of several restricted free agents a sizable contract, or barring that to trade Glen Davis for a much large expiring contract. Even after the '13 draft we expect to have an overabundance of draft picks, which is the type of problem any GM wishes to have. FInally, it is added that we retan the rights to Leon Radosevic and have the possibility of resigning AJ Price who went to Europe after rejecting our Q/O and receiving no offers of merit.

Unsigned Rights:
Leon Radosevic ('12 2nd rounder)
AJ Price (restricted free agent, enjoying Europe)

vi) Conclusion
After making the playoffs in 2012, Houston has undertaken a complete roster overhaul, which should make for an extremely rapid bottoming and bounce back, hopefully reminiscent of SAS without Duncan, only having acquired a core to rival OKC's in that single year. We have solid youth prospects at every position, possible franchise players, and have done a better job on cornering the '13 draft then Murphy and Aykroyd did the OJ futures market.

I could say more, but really, you should be watching the last youtube clip and realizing that Houston aced this, creating a future dynasty all managing to successfully bring our team both ways -- who else did that?

WHY I SHOULD WIN
- I really don't think I need to write too much here, I took a group of BIG NAMED, OVERPAID, MISFITS and build a perfect team with 2 of the biggest STARS in the NBA. KD and DWill are ideal fits plus the inside BIG MAN in Al Jefferson.

I am not sure there is a GM in the world that would not trade Melo, Amare, T.Chandler for Kevin Durant, Deron Williams and Al Jefferson.

Add to that my defensive anchor in DeAndrea Jordan and my All Defensive lock down wing defenders in Tony Allen and this team is a perfect fit. I also was able to add a solid bench with Al Harrington (my offense off the bench), Udonis Haslem (vet defensive BIG and rebound machine), Grivious Vazquez (solid baclup PG), Timofey Mozgov (solid young backup C), Kyle Korver (sniper), Dahanay Jones (role defender), and LaVoy Allen (promising defensive BIG)

Mehmet Okur $854,389
TJ Ford $854,389
Boran Bogdanovic $854,389
James Posey $854,389
Elton Brand $854,389

Draft Picks Owned -
Portland 2013 2nd Rounder
Cleveland 2013 2nd Rounder

Rotation -
PG - Chris Paul / Rodney Stuckey / TJ Ford
SG - James Harden / Rodney Stuckey
SF - Hedo Turkoglu / Boran Bogdanovic / James Posey
PF - Emeka Okafor / Elton Brand / Drew Gooden
C - Javale Mcgee / Mehmet Okur

Old Rotation -
Raymond Felton / Nolan Smith / Armon Johnson
Wesley Mathews / Jamal Crawford
Nicolas Batum / Gerald Wallace
Lamarcus Aldridge / Craig Smith
Marcus Camby / Kurt Thomas

Why I think I've done the best job?

I believe I've done the best job because I've turned a team who was basically all free agents besides Lamarcus Aldridge, into the leagues best point guard, the leagues brightest young shooting guard, defensive monster bigs with offense coming off the bench, a small forward who is on a great salary for what he produces. Also an amazing 6th man type off the bench in Stuckey.

Overall I think I've made a far better team than the original Portland team, I've brought in elite talent, players that still have 4-5 years at least of growth and good play. So we'll be able to compete for championships for years, we have a bench now that can match up well with anyone.

Point Guard Rotation -
Chris Paul / Rodney Stuckey / TJ Ford vs Raymond Felton / Nolan Smith / Armon Johnson

I believe this is where I did most of my damage, I vastly improved the point guard spot bringing in the best point guard in the league. Who can score, set up team mates, do everything. I have Stuckey off the bench so when Paul gets tired we still have an above average player running the show. TJ Ford might of retired in real life but he didn't on this game, and he was playing pretty well before he got hurt. All Portland fans have hated Felton this year, he's over the hill and sucking. Nolan Smith and Armon Johnson aren't a whole lot here. So I did really well at the point guard spot.

Shooting Guard Rotation -
James Harden / Rodney Stuckey vs Wesley Mathews / Jamal Crawford

Easy on this one too, James Harden is the biggest shooting guard young talent we have in the league, he's great at everything. Elite defense, great playmakers, amazing at selling calls, great all around team mate, and he's very young. Playing next to Chris Paul will only make him a better player which would be one of the scariest combos in the league. Rodney Stuckey can be used here as he's my 6th man off the bench, again he's another young gun, he's actually surprisingly efficient. Both of these players are better than the starters and bench player Portland has.

Small Forward -
Hedo Turkoglu / Boran Bogdanovic / James Posey vs Nicolas Batum / Gerald Wallace

It's obvious I lost here based on talent, but you factor in that both the guys I lost were free agents and combined to recieve something like 30 million in the offseason. That's way over paying for those guys, so instead I got rid of them and reapt the rewards and improved in other areas. It's not all bad, Bogdanovic is a promising international player, and Turk is a great passer, so with Harden and Paul the ball movement on this team will be amazing.

Power Forward -
Emeka Okafor / Elton Brand / Drew Gooden vs Lamarcus Aldridge / Craig Smith

Whilst it's hard to argue my case by not having Lamarcus Aldridge anymore, I got Okafor instead who is a monster on defense and a good rebounder. He's played with Chris Paul before and had a nice chemistry with him. I have Elton Brand off the bench who is good for 10+7 so I'm really happy to have that type of big off the bench. Drew Goodens biggest knock was his contract, I signed him for a tidy 2.5m in the offseason which for 12+6 is damn good. With the old Portland team I had no good backup pf, so for the depth I have now that's pretty nice.

Center -
Javale Mcgee / Mehmet Okur vs Marcus Camby / Kurt Thomas

Another easy win for me here, simply put McGees value **** all over Marcus Camby, Camby's a good defender but Mcgee's now better, Mcgees a better rebounder, younger, and can score better. He'll be a great fit with Chris Paul, and alongside Okafor will be close to the best defensive big man tandem in the league. Off the bench I have Mehmet Okur who brings more offense, so it's a good blend/mix of offense and defense between the two players.

WHY SHOULD I WIN?
My original roster, save Kyrie Irving, was going nowhere. Varejao was hurt, Jamison is declining, Casspi belongs on a bench and Anthony Parker is abysmal. The only bright spots on my bench were Ramon Sessions (who would definitely be opting out for starter money at the end of the season) and Alonzo Gee who was starting to make some amazing highlight plays. Tristan Thompson was still an offensive mess, and don't get me started on Ryan Hollins.

Lets look at my new roster. Still have Kyrie (sorry Ice, you were persistent though :-) ) who is a lock for ROY. Kid is clutch in the 4th quarter and will be a superstar. Received a massive upgrade at the 2 with veteran G Jamal Crawford. He's averaging 14 ppg and is a good fit next to Kyrie to grow with. At SF I have Alonzo Gee, a young, athletic wing who I was high on all game. I kept him on a ridiculously cheap contract (4 years/6.675 million) with him producing 14 ppg/ 7 rpg/ 2 apg over the last 10 games since becoming the starter. At only 24 years old, he will continue to improve. My biggest accomplishment was my drastic improvement in my front court. Adding a premier PF in LaMArcus Aldridge and the #3 overall pick in the draft in C Andre Drummond. Drummond's raw, but LMA is the perfect mentor to help him improve his game.

My bench is vastly improved with the additions of SG JR Smith, PF Kris Humphries, and C Amir Johnson. My only downgrade was from Ramon Sessions to Beno Udrih, but Udrih is a sold vet who puts up respectable numbers on a super cheap min contract. I filled out my roster with low cost players in Shannon Brown (9 ppg), C Jason Smith (9 ppg), and PF Lou Amundson and rookie SF Moe Harkless.

I traded away a lot of picks, but still have a 1st and 2nd in each of the upcoming drafts. I'm right at the cap limit, but won't be in any danger of sniffing the luxury tax anytime soon and can utilize the full MLE to add talent to the roster.

While my team's not perfect by any stretch, I feel it is well balanced to face off against any team and win a championship.

Positional Breakdown

PG: Jrue Holiday/Lou Williams -> Ricky Rubio/Delonte West
-huge upgrade here, Rubio is looking like the best pure passer since Nash. Combine that with good defense and the ability to really get in the lane and dish or finish...along with being an elite rebounder for his position...well you have a franchise PG.

-Lou is an amazing 6th man, but Delonte is no slouch himself. He can defend, handle the ball and hit the open shot.

SG: Evan Turner/Jodie Meeks -> Jason Richardson/Jason Terry
-here we sacrificed upside for production and outside shooting. My shooting guards can really space the floor and do not need to dominant the ball to make their presence felt.

SF: Andre Iguodala/Sam Young -> Jared Dudley/Marvin Williams
-biggest downgrade, but again I wanted spacing here at the cost of playmaking. I didn't need a point forward with Rubio running the show, and we go from the best perimeter defender in the league to a very good one in Dudley.

PF: Elton Brand/Thaddeus Young -> DeMarcus Cousins/Matt Bonner
- huge upgrade here, Cousins is a franchise big man. He is very young and is producing at an allstar level already. He is a huge body that intimidates on defense and dominants on offense. Again Bonner for spacing.

Cc: Spencer Hawes/Nikola Vucevic -> Marc Gasol/Festus Ezeli
-Again a massive upgrade. We added a 27 yr old, top 3 C who does it all. The best passing big man in the league, he can play with Cousins (see Zbo, some similarities to Cousins) and he can anchor the defense.

Style

We built this team around dominant big man play, elite spacing from the wings, a stopper at SF and an elite point guard.

Why I should Win

I took a flawed playoff team with huge holes (spacing, pg play, big man play) and turned it into a young team with huge side. Gasol/Cousins/Rubio with solid role playing wings around them and a great 6th man in Terry can compete with any team in the league now, and in the future,

Why I think I did the best job? With the Wolves, everyone talks about the young talent they have, but outside of Love, Rubio, Derrick Williams nobody had that much value(this game started before Pekovic really started playing well). Beasley most see as just an efficient player who was a bust, Wes Johnson is maybe the worst player in the league, and the rest are just bench players.

I wanted to build around Rubio/Love, but the opportunity came to trade for the leagues MVP, Derrick Rose. Rose and Love form a duo that might be the best in the league, and compliment each other extremely well. Both are 23 years old, and I've always thought that Love would need another #1 type option alongside him to really excel. Rose arguably is the most valued player in this entire game, along with LeBron James and Kevin Durant(or a re-signed Dwight). Having both of them locked up for at least the next 3 seasons allows the Timberwolves to bring themselves back to the forefront of the NBA.

Along with Rose I brought in a very underrated prospect in Gordon Hayward, who has really started to emerge since the all-star break. 12PPG / 4RPG / 3APG on 50 / 40 / 92 for his shooting %'s, and a 18.1 PER. He is a great do-it-all talent who can handle the ball, shoot the 3, rebound, make plays for his teamates, and is a reliable defender, who just turned 22 yesterday.

Outside of those 3 we brought in great defensive role players. Luc Mbah a Moute is one of the elite defenders, who can guard SG/SF and PF at a very high level. On offense he is still fairly raw, but he has also emerged after the all-star break. 10.4PPG / 7.4RPG on 56% shooting from the field, and a 23.7 PER. Even though he isn't much of a threat from 3, Love/Rose/Hayward are all solid-good shooters to offset that.

Dalembert has enjoyed a bit of a resurrection in Houston this season. 8.4PPG / 7.6RPG / 1.8 BPG on 51% and 81% from the line and a career best 17.3PER, in only 25 minutes. Having him intimidate opposing players in the paint will be a nice fit next to Love who is still not a great defender, even if he has made some strides.

One of the biggest strengths is our deep bench. We have one of the best 6th men in the game with Nick Young. He can score at will and put up some big numbers off the bench for us. Has a great jumper from mid-range and from 3, and is a good athlete. Steve Blake is a solid backup PG(also with Earl Watson as the 3rd string), Martell Webster is a reliable backup SG/SF who can play solid defense and is another player who can get hot from 3 in a hurry. Dante Cunningham is a nice hustle defender who can hit the open jumper. Brandon Rush is one of the league leaders in 3point% this season along with being a solid defender, and Ben Wallace is still a nice defender if we need him.

My salary is something I'm pretty comfortable with. Having Rose/Love/Young/Webster/Rush locked in for at least 3 seasons, I'll still be able to use my full MLE to add talent, along with having a couple of picks that should be solid.

With Rose/Love we think we have turned Minnesota into a powerhouse in the NBA for a very long time, and we will have very nice role-players around them. Along with having a top 5 coach in the NBA(Rick Adelman), our team will be a lot more fun to watch and a team that has a chance to win the West/NBA Finals this season already.

Why do I think I did the best job?
When I took over for Crispy he had just lost Eric Gordon in free agency, so the team was basically just Derrick Favors and his draft pick, Andre Drummond. I basically turned Drummond/Aminu into Meyers Leonard, Alec Burks, Michael Beasley, Jose Calderon, Quincy Miller, and Quincy Pondexter.

We decided we wanted to build around Derrick Favors. He has really shown that he will be a very good player with his play as of late. 12/10 in 30 MPG as a starter(8games), and has put up some monster rebound numbers(back to back games with 17 and 16 boards). With Favors we have a scoring machine at PF in Andrea Bargnani. His biggest weakness has been rebounding, but with Favors alongside him he can focus more on scoring.

We have a ton of scoring options on the roster. Alec Burks is a prospect I've been very high on. He's starting to be a regular in the rotation for the Jazz(just dominated Kobe and the Lakers. In March he's now playing 20 minutes per game, averaging 8.4PPG on 48% shooting. On the season he is averaging 16.6PPG / 4.7RPG / 1.8APG on 45 / 30 / 70(5.1 attempts) PER36.

Michael Beasley has made strides to becoming more of a complete player as Rick Adelman's 6th man. We would like him to start until Quincy Miller is ready and then move to 6th man, but he is a great rebounder for the SF spot, and a deadly mid-range shooter who can get hot and take over a game(games with 27/34 points this season, 9 games over 30 last season, including a 42 point game).

Meyers Leonard is a center prospect that we think will gain a lot more attention as the draft approaches. IMHO, he's a much better prospect then Drummond, who has shown nothing but athleticism at the college level. Leonard has athleticism, size(7'1, 260), length, a good inside/out game, and is a very good defender.

Quincy Miller will be the future for my SF spot. At 6'9" with a 7'4" wingspan he will be one of the best athletes in the NBA. He showed early at Baylor he could score in a variety of ways, dropping 29 points on Mizzou early in the season. He still wasn't fully recovered from his ACL injury in his senior year, but put up an impressive freshman season.

We really like the addition of Jose Calderon to get everyone involved. He's one of the best PG's in the game at getting people involved and limiting turnovers, and he's an expiring contract that we could flip at the trade deadline to a contender to improve our team more.

I think I should win because I took over a team with really 2 assets, and made a team that is loaded with assets, while still having cap flexibility, all of my future picks, and a couple extras.

PREFACE - TEAM ACQUIRED AT 2012 DRAFT - GOAL
Assemble Young - Playoff Talent with a 3 year plan to make a legit championship run.

Reality: The Nets entered the Game with the team now competing for a top 3 spot in the lottery. They have elected to trade their pick - top 3 protected and "keep" Deron - who will walk. The original NJ GM was postured to make a run at DH12 and had Cap space and some nice pieces. NJ had no '12 draft picks & Brooks & Marshon were gone. Having no confidence that Dwight would come to New Jersey, I decided Deron Had To Go.

Why I did the best job
George Karl said the new CBA makes the 3 star ‘dream team’ idea suspect. One injury or wrong guy can ruin a team. I share his belief that acquiring quality depth at every position (he said top 10) will always give you a mismatch.

My game assumptions have been right – Dwight Howard did not come to New Jersey & most believe Deron will opt out. I have brought in talent vs. his walking for nothing.

The Nets had 30M in cap space, but had no picks remaining. I made 3 deals prior to the ’12 draft that ultimately got me in the draft – Terrance Ross, Kris Joseph, S&T Fab Melo and Mason Plumlee all passed through Jersey. DWill and Harden were the value pieces that were involved that activity and ultimately gaining my final results.

NJ has assembled a collection of coveted Rookie scale guys with star potential - Kemba Walker (MJ says he has IT) – Tristan Thompson (27/12; 13/5; 15/11 last 3 gms) (and my personal pick – Elliot Williams - unbelievable athleticism – time will tell);
All Star Performers – Danny Granger and Anderson Varejao (NBA all defense 2009);
Young High Performers – JJ Redick, Louis Williams, Jonas Jerebko and Tiago Splitter. Any one of them are capable of getting to an elite status in the Association.
That core with Mason Plumlee (rookie), Ian Mahimni & James Johnson average 24.5 yrs.
To Balance that youth I have 8 time All Star – ROY – Slam Dunk Champ Vince Carter and
2 Time All Star – with 18+ppg Average in 64 playoff appearance – Rashard Lewis.
The Key core players are all signed for at least 3 years - except Splitter who is a RFA.

The Team has balance scoring with Go To Guys in Kemba, Granger & Thompson and is really built around Defense and length in both the starting and second units.

(I believe) NJ still has it’s 2014 1st and 2015 draft picks (I am not checking the prior GMs deals to confirm), and NJ did pick up 2016 1st from PHI. The Nets are at $68M in salaries so we have operated with restraint given our “richest owner in sports” opportunity.

If one can’t accepts that a balanced team oriented style can win (see Dallas Mavs ’11), then the highlight Team should win. But given the accuracy of my other assumptions, this Nets Teams would develop into something special.

Why I feel I did a good job? I was the Pistons.

Literally, I joined basically at the end of signups, taking a team no one had asked for, because

a.) The Pistons had three assets. Monroe whom was elite, Knight who was up and down (and someone I got no great offers for), and my pick. Stuckey at the time wasn't playing nearly as well as he is right now, and I'd still argue his value isn't ridiculously high, because of the misconceptions about his game. In fact, the best offer I got the entire time I had Stuckey, was Shawn Marion. And I held onto Stuckey for a while..in fact, he was almost used as a "filler" in the deal I eventually ended up moving him.

b.) So, naturally the idea would be to rebuild (aka, tank for a top pick, build around Monroe), and get some good guys in FA. However, unlike most rebuilding teams, the Pistons were NOT a cap friendly team. They are paying (and still paying) Rip Hamilton, Gordon is considered a negative contract, similarly w/ Prince. Charlie V's is terrible, but thank god for the amnesty for him. Even guys like Will Bynum and Jason Maxiell had negative value.

So you had a team with only one really good asset, barely any OK pieces (Knight, Jerebko, Stuckey, but again, let's be honest, who is giving up anything terrific for role players, and a flawed young guy), and the rest of the roster comprised of negatives.

Current
We turned this Pistons team into what we feel is a contender. The team is built around our trio of Rondo, Griffin and Melo. I'll be the first to admit Melo/Griffin isn't the MOST ideal of fits, but I'd argue you'd be hard pressed to find better people to surround them than Rondo, Hawes, and Batum, whom IMO, perfectly fit their games -- whether that be through spacing, defense, knowing their roles, or getting everyone involved, the team has well and clear defined roles. If we're ranking how much we've improved "the win now" situation, we've taken a bottom feeder w/ one total good asset, and turned that into a contender (that also was a top 5 ranked team in the '12 rankings). I don't know if that sort of significant improvement has been made anywhere else..

And btw, I'm sure most of you don't need a detailed description of Rondo, Griffin, Batum, or Melo's game (though, I don't think people realize Melo's all round game has been pretty damn good since the coaching change -- and he's also been a star in the Olympics, of a Denver team that went to the WCF doing 27/6/4 in the post-season, and deferred and played w/ other big time scorers in a guy like Iverson). Anyways...Hawes is only 23, doing 10/8 on the season (14/11 PER36), and having monster impact on that Sixers team. They're 14-5 w/ him in the lineup opposed to 13-16 w/out him...when he's on the floor, the Sixers have a 93.3 DRTG opposed to 98.8, and they're also a better offensive team w/ him on the floor as well.

Dunleavy, Ayon, and Farmar are above average bench players (seriously, they've been very good this season), and they'll take up majority of the playoff bench minutes. Hill, Petro sort are just other bodies for size that can have an occasional impact on the game. Our team fits very well, has the star power, and versatility on both ends to be a legitimate contender to win the chip.

Future
Conversely, we feel we've also improved the future as much as any team in this game as well. The future was Monroe, and banking on Knight becoming a star, which doesn't look like it'll be the case. Rondo is only 26, Batum is only 23, Hawes is only 23, Griffin is only 22, and Melo is our "oldest" in the starting lineup at 27. So, we have a contender that should be good for a very long time. And NOTE, we have THREE first round picks in 2013 (GSW, PHI, and my own) and even a couple 2nds as well, which should only help for our future to fill out the bench. I'd argue the Pistons with our core, and future picks have as bright a future as any team in the league. We also have Kris Joseph, who's kinda cool, lol.. So we'll have picks, our entire team being young, our team screams future, they just happen to be proven enough now to contend as well.

So, it's not ideal...but we worked hard towards the end of the game to get it to a stage that it would would hover not TOO much over the lux for a team, or within 10m of 75, because we have a team which we feel is worth it. After that, Melo expires, and we'll assess the options that are available. Count it as a hit if you must, but we think it's worth it, and the positives greatly, greatly, outweigh the negatives.

Overall, we took a team with a bunch of bad contracts, only one very valuable piece, and turned it into a contending team that can compete for a champioship, and contend for a very long time. Our core is young, and we got dem picks. Vote Detroit!

WHY I SHOULD PLACE IN THE TOP 5
I honestly thought there was a chance at me wining until I looked through the league. There are some really good teams, and I honestly don't think Utah is the best. I do think I put together a well balanced team that could make some noise in the playoffs.

PG: At my point guard position I have Raymond Felton and JJ Barea. Felton was off to a slow start at the beginning of the year but has picked it up as of late. Last year under Mike D'Antoni he put up 17 ppg and 9 ast. He flourished in a more up tempo offense and looked like a top-level point. I think in the new Utah offense and pairing him with Joe Johnson, he could return to his old self.

At the back up point I have JJ Barea. Lets not forget he was the catalyst in the Mavs playoff run. He basically beat the Lakers, with his slashing the way he scored at will. I think he could have a serious impact off the bench.

SG: At my shooting guard position there is Joe Johnson and Jimmer Fredette. I always thought Joe was asked to do to much with Atlanta. With the Jazz all he will be asked to do is score, grabs some boards, and pass. I think Joe would be a lethal offensive option in our system.

I've always been high on Jimmer Fredette and was ecstatic when I acquired him. All Jimmer would be required to do is come off the bench and score, which he is more then capable of.

SF: At small forward I have Loul Deng and Matt Barnes. Loul Deng is a top level small forward, who can score, defend, and rebound. He is the glue to the Chicago defense and would be for Utah. Pairing him with Millsap/Bogut and in my opinion you have an elite front court.

Matt Barnes has been a top level defender and capable scorer for some time, and would continue it for the Jazz.

PF: At power forward I have Paul Millsap and Tyler Hansbrough. Paul Millsap is putting up 16 ppg and 9 rpg. He is a high level rebounded and solid scorer. I think most teams would concentrate on Joe Johnson, allowing Paul to get some open jumpers and clean up on the glass.

Tyler Hanbrough is a high energy player who has a outstanding basketball I.Q. He would be that spark off the bench, that every championship level team has.

C: At center I have Andrew Bogut and Enes Kanter. When healthy Bogut is a top level center that is a decent scorer and solid defender. Putting him in the pick and roll with Felton would be a lethal combo.

Enes Kanter is my "Andrew Bogut insurance policy" . Its no secret that Andrew has a history of injuries and I didn't want a hole down low, so I kept Enes. He can rebound at will and has a nice post game.

So thats my Utah Jazz. Well balanced and on any given night could beat any team
