GM a team - 2 offseason edition - SIGNUPS--2 spots left!

With the latest gm a team coming to a close, I'll be running the newest one, with help from TMACFORMVP.
Neither of us will be playing unless we have to, so we are going to have the 2012 offseason, then a season with a 2013 offseason. The 2012 free agency has become pretty stale with most of the good free agents now gone(Dwight staying, Wilson Chandler, Love/Westbrook/Gallinari).

Basic timeline will be:

April 1st - Rosters posted for beginning of 2012 offseason(draft / free agency)
April 2nd - Draft Lottery / Beginning of Draft.
April 3rd - Player options / team options will have to be decided on.
April 5th(or once draft is over) - Free agency will start
April 12th - 2013 Regular season will start(teams must be within roster limits, rookies signed)
May 3rd - Trade Deadline is midnight EST
May 5th - Rosters updated for draft / free agency
May 6th - Draft lottery / Beginning of Draft ---Only will do the 1st round since 2013 Draft is still an unknown.
May 7th - Player / Team options decided on.
May 9th - 2013 Free agnency will start
May 16th - Regular season will start(teams must be within roster limits, rookies signed).
May 30th - Trade deadline is MIDNIGHT EST.
June 1st - Final rosters updated / writeups done
June 2nd - Rankings sent in
June 4th - Winners announced

Timeline isn't set it stone, just a basic outline.

Salary Cap:

60M - Soft Cap
75M - Lux Tax
100M - Hard Cap

Amnesty:

Amnesty will not be available until around draft time (written in schedule). Any team that has not used it this year in eligible to use it next year. Teams can only use it on players that had a contract when the CBA was signed. The Amnesty completely takes the players contract off of your salary cap.

Free Agency:

Under Cap:

Sign players with whatever cap you have.

Under Lux Tax:

Teams get a MLE (up to four-year deals starting at $5 million in the first two years, with the starting point increasing by 3 percent in subsequent years (four years, 20.5 million will be the maximum contract allowed to be offered)). Teams also get a BAE at 2M per year, max of 2 years. They get this every other year.

Over Lux Tax:

Teams get a Mini MLE (at most three years starting at $3 million in the first two years, with the starting point increasing 3 percent in subsequent years (three years, 9.1 million is the maximum contract allowed).

People can find salaries at http://www.shamsports.com (this is the official site)
Also look at http://www.nba.com for rosters, http://storytellerscontracts.com/ or http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries.htm for the blanks. Also http://www.sportscity.com/NBA-Salaries/ has some.

Guys like Wilson Chandler's contract aren't listed yet, but should be soon, if there's a trade with him and he doesn't have a contract listed yet, we will figure something out.

Buyouts/Trading Money:
This was cool, and will stay

IT MUST BE LISTED ON YOUR ROSTER PAGE, OR WE WILL ASSUME YOU HAVE NONE AT ALL TO USE (even star up cash)

Each team can trade cash as part of trades. There are limits:

Every team starts with 7M
Max amount of cash you can get/trade in one deal: 3M
You can never be a negative

All buyouts must be cleared with me. You can buy a player out by requesting one (send me an email) and using your cash to pay the player now, and have him come off the salary cap. Since this money gets taken off payroll (unlike real life) you gotta pay a little extra to buy out the guy. We will only use round numbers (by the mil) If the player makes 2,300,000, you need to pay him $3mil to buy him out. Min contracts will cost you $1mil to erase. If the player has a buyout or partial guarantee, you need to pay the ENTIRE salary to clear the partial money, or just waive the player and take the smaller cap hit.

Now for the signups.

You must put 3 different teams for your top 3, if you don't, I won't give you your one team. Also, if people are willing to take any team, please post that, we always are short on a few teams. Email is required, AIM is recommended

Sambone will be given his choice as he ran the last game, and whoever wins the current GM a team will be given their choice as well.

Any questions my contact info is:
email - oquist@live.com
aim - aoquist

for your signups please post your contact info(email and aim if you have it), plus your top 3 choices.

A few things:

-I started buyouts, but I think it may need revisions. It just acts as another small amnesty, not my original intent. Not sure what that would be, but IMO, it's not very effective at the moment.
-I would recommend to put extra weight to the winner of the 12 title and the 13 title. I'm expecting future based teams to dominate the rankings at the end, because two years and two playoffs would have passed by then, so idk how EXACTLY to do that, but somehow putting meaning into being a win-now team would be good.
-The timeline may be a bit long, but not a big deal at all, because you can edit that later.

With the multi-season game, this will be my last (especially if it lasts to June).

2. Orlando
3. Boston

and, at the risk of being the bad guy here: Could I suggest that anyone who dropped out of the last game without warning, or who did not do a writeup and rankings, sit out a round? This game is so much better when we get close to 30 GM's who stick it out all the way through, and there ought to be some consequence to disappearing. I don't mean this to apply to people who realized they had a time crunch and contacted the commissioner to let him know that they'd have to be replaced.

I will take OKC and rebuild them around Harden and Ibaka.

I decided to go old scholl SamBone and go all young kids. The winning teams have been fun, but I want to go back to what I like and go with the kids.

My 1st challenge as GM will be to try to find takers for Durant and Westbrook

+1 it was written in the rules for last game that people that did not bother to post a writup or send in rankings would be banned for a round

but thats up to moss and tmac if they want to make stand. If is funny to see people that did not post a writeup already resign up

That is a good point stern & sambone, everyone that played last game NEEDS to put a writeup or you wont be allowed to play this game.

Also sambone brought up a good point to me. Since were past the deadline in real life, ill just start this game with free agency/draft. Teams in RL have already waived expiring contracts(diaw/twill/hickson), so those teams shouldn't be punished. Ill edit the timeline to reflect this later today once I get home.

Good idea, but I would still have a bit of time before hand to trade players that aren't FAs. Not sure if you were here during those games, but usually we'd have like 2-4 days to trade players on contract before the draft/FA started. That way people have an option if they don't want to be a big player in FA, or to tank last minute or something like that. Otherwise, I love the idea.

I also agree with the writeup thing, people need to finish games if they want to continue playing.

as far as the trading aspect, trading can happen pre and during the draft using 2013 salary I would think, but my point was we should not have a trading period using 2012 contracts since that deadline has past in real life and those contracts have since been waived since they are useless to those teams.

My suggestion was to use the real life standings day 1 of the start of game (may be after the 1st since not sure how long the playoffs from last game will go) and use that as draft standings and run a lotto using those records

1. have eveyone post a roster starting with 2012/2013 salary
2. let trading start and
3. a day later start the 2012 draft
4. FA
5. start of season
6. 2013 slaray trade deadline
7. switch to 2013/2014 salary
8. 2013 draft
9. FA
10. game end

Okay, updated the OP to have the timeline edited. Start with this coming offseason, then a regular season, next offseason, and a couple weeks of trading.
