GM a Team - Summer Style: 2012 FA (TIER 3 AND RFA NOW)

Post#1 » by BlackIce » Fri Jul 6, 2012 6:01 pm

The MLE is $5 million for a duration of four years for teams that are over the cap either before or after the signing, but did not pay a luxury tax in the previous season. Teams without cap room that paid tax in the previous season have an MLE of $3 million with a three-year duration. The MLE can increase up to 3% per season.

The bi-annual exception was used to sign any free agent to a contract starting at $1.672 million. Like the mid-level exception, the bi-annual exception was also split among more than one player, and was used to sign players for up to two years, which raised limited to 8% per year. This exception was referred to as the "$1 million exception" in the 1999 CBA, although it was valued at $1 million for only the first year of the agreement.

The exception was eliminated for luxury tax paying teams following the 2011 NBA lockout as many high spending teams were using this as a tool to gain top paid players.

Ok sorry I just had to clear this up. Let's detach the game from real life. Take a picture of the league right now, and read on reports and what not. Thus here is a list of all FAs (both restricted and unrestricted) and what happens/should happen. Take note, I assumed that all verbally agreed upon contracts are increasing (i.e. they are not frontloaded) unless otherwise reported.

Kevin Garnett agrees to go to Boston on a 34/3 million contract (7.5% raise) details as follow:
10,542,636 || 11,333,333 || 12,124,031

Gerald Wallace agrees to go to Nets on a 40/4 million contract (7.5%) details as follow:
8,988,764 || 9,662,921 || 10,337, 079 || 11, 011, 236

Omer Asik agrees to contract with Houston (4.5%) - CHI GM has the ability to match. details as follow:
for HOU its: 8,006,380 || 8,366,667 || 8,726,954
for CHI (if they match) its: 5,000,000 || 5,225,000 || 14,875,000 --> Gilbert Arenas Provision

Lavoy Allen agrees to go to 76ers on a 6/2 mil contract (7.5% raise) details as follow:
2,891,566 || 3,108,434

Andre Miller agrees to go to Nuggets on a 9/3 mil contract (no raise, if reports are right) details as follow:
3,000,000 || 3,000,000 || 3,000,000

Hibbert agrees to go to Blazers (4.5%) - IND GM can match. details as follow:
13,583,138 || 14,194,379 || 14,805,621 || 15,416,862

Hill agrees to go to Pacers (7.5%) on a ~40/5 contract mirroring Marcus Thornton's deal. details as follow:
7,000,000 || 7,525,000 || 8,050,000 || 8,575,000 || 9,100,000

Teletovic agrees to go to Nets using the mini-MLE(4.5%). details as follow:
3,090,000 || 3,229,050 || 3,368,100

Fields agrees to go to Raptors on a 19/3 million contract(4.5%) - NYK GM can match. Details as follow:
for TOR its: 6,060,606 || 6,333,333 || 6,606,061
for NYK its: 5,000,000 || 5,225,000 || 8,775,000

Evans agrees to a S&T to Nets on a 5/3 million contract (4.5%) details as follow:
1,594,896 || 1,666,667 || 1,738,437
as part of the deal, BKN send LAC a future 2nd round pick (as the protection is not yet reported it would be best if both GMs talk about this, yes?)

Williams agrees to go to Nets on a massive 98.75/5 million contract (7.5%) details as follow:
17,173,913 || 18,461,957 || 19,750,000 || 21,038,043 || 22,326,087

Hawes agrees to go to 76ers on a 13.1/2 million contract (7.5%) details as follow:
6,313,253 || 6,786, 747

Dragic agrees to go to Suns on a 30/4 million contract (4.5%). Note that the reported 34/4 includes bonuses of 4 million, which will not count against the cap since I believe they are unlikely bonuses. details as follow:
7,025,761 || 7,341,920 || 7,658,080 || 7,974,239 (player option)

Beasley agrees to go to Suns on a 18/3 million contract (4.5%). details as follow:
5,741,627 || 6,000,000 || 6,258,373

Thabeet agrees to a 2 year minimum contract with OKC, details as follow:
885,120 || 885,120

Gordon agrees to go to PHX on a 58/4 million contract (4.5%) - which NOH can match. details as follow:
13,583,138 || 14,194,379 || 14,805,621 || 15,416,862

Lin agrees to go to HOU on a 28.8/4 million contract - which NYK can match. details as follow:
for NYK its: 5,000,000 || 5,225,000 || 9,300,000 || 9,300,000 (team option)

Roy agrees to go to MIN on a 10.4/2 million contract. details as follow:
5,085,575 || 5,314,425

Batum agrees to go to MIN on 45/4 contract (again, 50/4 includes unlikely bonuses) - which POR can match. details as follow:
10,538,642 || 11,012,881 || 11,487,119 || 11,961,358

Billups to LAC on a one year contract - 4.3 million

Crawford to LAC on a 25/4 million contract. details as follow:
5,854,801 || 6,118,267 || 6,381,733 || 6,645,199

Nash to LAL via S&T. Nash will receive 27/3 million contract. details as follow:
8,612,440 || 9,000,000 || 9,387,560

as part of the deal, LAL sends PHX 2013 1st (worst between MIA, LAL and CLE) and an unprotected 2015 LAL and 2 unprotected 2nd round pick from LAL (LAL and PHX should coordinate since details of the 2 picks haven't been released yet)..

Bass to BOS on 20/3 mil contract. details as follow:
6,201,550 || 6,666,667 || 7,131,783

Terry to BOS on 15/3 mil contract. details as follow:
5,000,000 || 5,225,000 || 5,450,000

because of this signing, BOS GM has a hard cap of 74 million to work with.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If there were any FA signings I missed BEFORE 1 AM GMT+8 (that's my time), please inform me. Everything else right now is not official including Kidd to NY deal. What needs to happen is Mavs and NY should talk on a S&T.

If I missed anything, please inform me via email or aim. Thank you.

please be noted that for teams who previously owned rights to UFAs who have signed contracts above, have their cap holds now released. For RFAs, GMs please post/inform whether you match or not

That was the post I was waiting for, I endorse this post it will make the game run more smoothly and after talking to nikkoewan I believe this is the best approach to the FA that have "signed". You can find the numbers here and trade these players immediately. I was struggling to make this decision but if I don't choose one approach and go 100% in that direction the game will become messy.

Thank you nikkoewan for all the hard work you put in.

with that out of the way, New Orleans decides to match the offer for Mr. Eric "my heart is in PHO" Gordon. I believe now that he got his money, his heart is with us? LOL

Portland protest - Why not let the RL scenerios play out. If Indy matches - Hibbert stays, but if they don't and get Kaman and OJ Mayo, why not mimic the real moves in the NBA? We can allow all the deals to play out or arbitrarily just have those few count and others not. I know 7 player deals can be the norm in the game, but there really are not that many in the real league.

Allowing RL to interact with the game will disrupt the flow of the game. Its why we take what's at hand from the time the FA list was posted. Why you ask?

Well, imagine if the MIN GM was able to pull of a good trade for Derrick Williams, and because POR GM matched Batum, he didn't get him. However, once we reach July 11, and the RL MIN was able to construct a S&T for Batum involving Derrick Williams, what happens then to the Derrick Williams trade the MIN GM in GMAT was able to pull of? Do we retract it? what if by retracting it, we are also retracting another trade (if for example pieces involved in the Derrick Williams GMAT trade were trade again)? and then because we retracted another trade, another trade is destroyed possibly because of luxury tax purposes? (maybe they wanted to go under the luxury tax to use the 5 million MLE)?

By doing this (taking a mental image of the RL) and then playing off that, instead of depending on the interaction between RL and GMAT, we are setting ourselves up for a more cohesive league. No trades will be retracted because of any transactions in RL.

Well the fact that the Blazers have the Cap Space to offer a Max deal to Hibbert and have not made other offers, while MN alledgely has a 45-50M offer to Batum (with the $$$ listed?) while their salary cap is at $57,000,000 make one wonder? The Wolves have signed Brandon to a $ 5.2M offer (with cap space as they do not have a MLE while under the cap). So amnesty Darko, waive Webster and Miller and MN is still $ 300,000 short of having the money to sign Batum at 11M. Let's call that one real and include it, but not get bogged down in RL issues as respects the rest of the deals.

The Great Deal they were going to get for Derrick Williams was a S&T for Batum with Webster - which Portland is prepared to reject. By the way, it is also reportetd that Rick Adelman cannot get along with Derrick Williams. I will wait to see what happens in FA in RL and we can mix that with Agents reports. Maybe the Batum for Iggy with Williams to Philly will go down - or some other rumor.

Solution - Wait for the 15th to deal with players who are Restricted FA (and those suggested in real deals).

Scott, we already decided lets try and move the game along now. I respect your opinion but I think I have to make the call on this one. Nikkoewan's list will be upheld.

I don't know what MIN's finances are, but fact is again, interacting RL while the game is in progress will be very very confusing. Go talk to BlackIce. need to sleep. Bad

Ok cool.

What about Qualifying Offers then, presumably we can rescind ones issues IRL but where deals were not agreed by Friday?

So let me get this straight. Any of the real life signings that took place after the post you liked don't count in the game. I am curious because in real life the Knicks resigned Steve Novak and traded Jerome Jordan, Josh Harrelson, Toney Douglas, cash and 2 future seconds for Marcus Camby.
