Re: All Time Decade Discussion: 12 players obtained! Check i

EDIT: Misread your question initially.

Players may only be selected once. If Michael Jordan is selected for the 80s he cannot be selected for any other decade.

However, if you have a player who is viable in more than one decade, you have the choice to use him in whichever decade you choose. For example, if you were to choose Michael Jordan, you could choose to use him in the 80s or 90s depending on what else you draft.

To be honest I'm not too thrilled about having the second pick. I was hoping to obtain a mid round draft pick as I have never drafted in that area before and was looking to try out some new strategies.

Alas, though, the randomizer as spoken.

As per usual in these games, the first day of the draft will be clock free. People are encouraged to make picks if they are up but there is no time limit.

I encourage anyone who knows they aren't going to be around for their pick to send me a private message with their potential picks. You may also send to TMACFORMVP as well, as he'll be helping me out with this game.

Aw, didn't have enough players to go with 16.

Oh well. If someone drops out, I'm still here.

^Yeah, I'll definitely have you on speed dial.

We had to replace Kees, but I had to go with ATL boy since he asked first.

Jake gets first dibs on my team if I suddenly get swamped (which could be at any point without warning).

Are we allowed to play players where we see fit? For example if I draft a combo guard is it at my discretion where to play them?

^Yeah.

How you structure your team is entirely up to you.

If you try something unconventional though, its up to you to sell it in your writeup.

Didn't sift for this question, but:

Once a player is taken, is that player removed from the board in other decades? For example, SunScorched drafted '87-'88 MJ-- that means someone cannot draft, say, '94-'95 MJ, correct?

Kind of a silly question, but just making sure.

^No other team may draft Michael Jordan in any decade.

SunScorched, depending on what he drafts, also has the opportunity to change the year for MJ if he so chooses. Say, if there's someone in the 80s he really wants in his starting lineup alongside MJ, he has the option to shift MJ's year to the 90s.

So when are the years we select locked in? Once the draft ends?

^Yeah.

Naturally you can't make a change that results in having 2 starters of the same decade though.

Cool, thanks. I was wondering about the other point you clarified as well.

BTW, this is a discussion thread.

People are free to discuss and argue the merit of certain picks here.

Shaq has steadily risen through draft boards since I started these games. If I recall correctly, the first ATL I ever played in he actually dropped to 8th, and this is the highest I've ever seen him in a format where all players are available.

Still, given the quality of his single year peak, its tough to argue with the pick.

Yeah, the Shaq pick was a tad high IMO. I know I've talked to a few on this, but he's a bit harder to build around in these games because you HAVE to get a PF that can at least shoot the midrange well otherwise you will run into spacing problems. He's also in the (theoretically) deepest era (00 has 13 seasons, all others only have 10) which is another thing to consider.

Another question: If the player has only made the 2013 All-Star Game, are they disqualified from the non-all-star pool?

^Good question, and one I hadn't even considered.

I think 2013 all stars are out.

Also: major oversight on my part: ABA years MAY BE used.

It's been almost 6 hours. What's the time limit?

^On day one there is no time limit because we want to give everyone fair warning.

Starting tomorrow the limit is 5 hours. I find that's usually enough to keep things moving and also long enough that people rarely have issues with it.

Even someone with an 8 hour job, its fairly rare that they come on the clock early enough in their shift for it to be a problem. And if it is, PMs ahead of time are always an option if you have to leave for a long time and are close to picking.
