Here is the essence of the game which myself and spree8 have discussed and decided to collaborate on.

In this game we (the Commissioners) will use the WhatifSports (WIS) sim engine to run an entire 38 game season consisting of 20 teams (10 Eastern Conference/ 10 Western Conference) in which GM's will select an NBA franchise of their choosing, draft players (12 man roster), and manage the team (trades, rotation,etc) for a 3yr period in hopes of winning an NBA Championship, or two, or three with a point system alotted for making the Playoffs, advancing to different stages of Playoffs, and of course winning a championship (which will be detailed below in the Rules/ Points section).

After the completion of the FINAL YR (yr 3) of the season, there will be rankings made by all GM's (to satisfy the GM's who prefer this method) with another point system which will take into account teams starting position (which means initial draft position at the beginning of each season, FA "signings") to where they finished after the 3rd yr (which will be detailed below in the Rules/ Draft/ FA section).

Upon reading the Rules section etc, please feel free to sign up stating you have read and understand the rules with your username Team Name (which will be a first come first serve basis, just remember 10 East/ 10 West so please check) and preferred method of contact or even ask questions if you still are unsure of something.

INITIAL DRAFT
The Draft will be a FANTASY DRAFT (ABBB...) where you select a 12 man roster consisting of ANY PLAYER FROM ANY ERA YOU SO CHOOSE (sans 2013 rookies) where you will also state THE SEASON WHICH YOU ARE SELECTING OF DRAFTED PLAYER'S CAREER.

The reason (which is the catch hence 3yr Dynasty Game) is because AT THE END OF EACH SEASON/ BEGINNING OF FOLLOWING SEASON, said player (which will manually be redone by GM) will have to CHANGE the year of each chosen player to the following yr which may show player growth/ improvement, continuance of performance, or a decline in player skill.

Ex: Season 1 LeBron James ('08-'09) Season 2 LeBron James ('09-'10) Season 3 LeBron James ('10-'11) which MUST BE DONE FOR EVERY PLAYER (which will be labeled during draft and on roster page).

*Note: If selected yr of player is 2012-13 player will continue to perform at '12-'13 level in the following year(s) since database only goes to 2012-13.

Ex: Season 1 James Harden ('12-'13) Season 2 James Harden ('12-'13) Season 3 James Harden ('12-'13)

Initial Draft Order will be made using a randomizer placing all 20 teams names within the randomizer.

TRADES
Yes there will be trading (between no more than 3 teams), you can trade draft position and player(s) as well BUT THEY MUST BE 1 For 1, 2 For 2, etc essentially as long as it is an equal number of assets being exchanged.

Ex: Player A for Player B, Player A Player B for Player C Player D, etc.

There will be no trading of future pick(s) UNTIL FOLLOWING OFFSEASON DRAFT (which will be detailed below in Offseason Draft section).

Also remember, there is no salary cap so no need to worry about finances.

ALL TRADES MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE BECOMING LEGAL.

IN SEASON
There will be a 38 game simulated season in which teams will play each other 2x in order to designate standings and playoff positioning for each season. Trading will also be open during this period until approximately the halfway point of the season (prior to game 19 sim) which will follow the same basic GMaT trading post of (ex):

Raptors trade: '95 Penny Hardaway
Nuggets trade: '77 George McGinnis

Etc.

ALL TRADES MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE BECOMING LEGAL.

There also wil be points alotted to winners of each Conference (Eastern & Western).

CONFERENCE WINNER: 250pts

PLAYOFFS/ FINALS
The top 8 teams from each conference will make the Playoffs and will be awarded the following points which teams will keep track of in their team roster thread.

CHAMPIONSHIP: 2,000pts
FINALS: 1,000pts
CONFERENCE FINALS: 500pts
SEMI-FINALS: 250pts
PLAYOFFS: 100pts

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
There will be awards given out to teams for players with the top individual performances giving teams even more of an opportunity to win the game. IT IS NOT MANDATORY IT IS OPTIONAL AS GM'S ARE TO KEEP UP WITH PLAYERS STATS FOR THEIR OWN TEAMS.

SCORING/ REBOUNDING/ ASSISTS/ BLOCKS/ STEALS/ 3PTERS MADE LEADERS: 100pts

There will also be a regular season MVP Award and a Finals MVP Award which will be voted on by the GM's.
IT IS MANDATORY FOR ALL PARTICIPATING GM'S TO VOTE FOR BOTH REGULAR SEASON AND FINALS MVP IN ORDER TO WIN THE GAME. NO EXCEPTIONS!

REGULAR SEASON MVP: 150pts
FINALS MVP: 150pts

OFFSEASON DRAFT/ FREE AGENCY
Yes there will an offseason draft/ free agency opportunity which will go as follows:

EVERY OFFSEASON a team must drop one player from their 12 man roster bringing them to a total of 11 players which upon the team will then have the OPTION TO EITHER select a player from the Free Agent Pool of dropped players OR draft a player of your choosing from any era that was not drafted.

Offseason Draft/ Free Agent position will be determined by end of season record of non playoff teams using a weighted lotto system and random.org with the worst team getting higher opportunity of #1 Option to Draft OR Select a dropped Free Agent. Trading will also be open during this period where the same trade rules described above apply.

ALL TRADES MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE BECOMING LEGAL.

After the offseason is complete and rosters are full, we will begin season 2 and cycle thru until the end of season 3.

END OF GAME RANKINGS
At the end of Season 3 ALL GM's are expected to rank each team and come up with a TOP 10 ONLY based on how well each franchise did, whether it be regular season, drafting, signing players, playoff appearances, finals appearances, championship(s), as well as consideration to where the team started from their initial draft position (ie, did Team X have last or near last pick in Rd 1 of the draft and still built a dominant force/ perennial winner/ champion, did Team A have a top 10 pick and underachieve, miss the playoffs, never win, build a dynasty etc).

Here is where there will be NO RESTRICTION or criteria, just base it on your own opinions...in other words, be yourself and state your opinion!

1st: 1,000pts
2nd: 900pts
3rd: 800pts
Etc...

FINAL RANKINGS WILL CONSIST OF SCORES FROM TOTALS OF BOTH PLAYOFFS/ FINALS TALLY AND TOP 10 RANKING RESULTS!

IF YOU DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN TOP 10 RANKINGS YOUR TEAM CANNOT WIN, NO EXCEPTIONS!

There is only one rule besides keeping up with your team, being cordial (competitive trash talk is cool), etc...HAVE FUN!

*LEAGUE MAY BE EXPANDED TO FIELD OF UP TO 24 TEAMS DEPENDING ON INTEREST whereas schedule etc will be amended*

One question how is different style of play and rules taken into account. Eg Bill Russell is greatest defensive player shot blocker but had no blocks because it wasn't a stat. Or Cousey was a great shooter but no 3 pt shot recorded and no goaltending so top shooters hit 45pct.

The whatifsports sim engine takes stats from players and creates ratings for players, for the players pre-stat era they created ratings for them.

How much does this account for fit? Like if a team has poor spacing how will that effect them? Or scoring coming only from the perimeter? Or other things like that. I might be interested but I want to know how real it actually will be.

EDIT: Also, how long would the game last? My time will die once I go back to school.

We'll be using the free sim account so it basically will be the equivalent of the sim leagues you and I are in with everything on default settings. No plays etc, strictly a sim of players and their default tendencies.

I'll post a draft/ game schedule shortly, w a 38 game season the idea is to sim minimum 1game per team each day (regular season).

More news to come once we get closer to filling out the teams.

Is there anyway we can do maybe 2-3 games per team, each day? I feel like the climax of this game is really the playoffs.
