Mock Off-Season: Coaching Changes

The trade discussion thread is moving fast so to make sure I don't lose the coaching changes in that process, I will start a thread here for strictly firing your coach. If you fired your coach in the other thread, just let it be known here and who you would like to negotiate with as your new hire. If you are still in the playoffs and considering a coaching change pending the results, also let that be known here so coaches know if they should consider holding out for a possible job.

If you are just keeping your current coach, there is no need to let me know in this thread. Only if you fired your coach.

The Pelicans are firing Alvin Gentry. We would like to offer Messini of the Spurs the spot.

From the other thread:

Tim Lehrbach wrote:Terry Stotts has already been assured he will return, while the team understands that veteran assistants Nate Tibbetts, David Vanterpool, and Dale Osbourne may entertain offers for head or lead assistant coaching positions elsewhere once the Blazers' season is over. Whether or not any of these guys is poached, the team will be looking at adding an additional "big man coach" to replace or assist Jim Moran in this role. Recently retired NBA bigs known for their defensive instincts or prowess at finishing inside are encouraged to apply.

sportscrazy, do I need to make offers to particular people for that new assistant job, or will you be playing matchmaker?

Your decision, or organisational decision?

If it's my duty as a GM, the Spurs are extremly happy win Messinas performance and would be really sad to see him go, but would not stand in the way if he decides to take a head coaching job.

OK
From the other thread:

We are letting Randy Brown go and would like to hire Corliss Williamson from the Orlando Magic as our #2 Assistant Coach behind Jim Boylen. He will be helping our bigs, especially Bobby Portis, given their very close relationship.
In an additional effort to develop young players, we are offering Scottie Pippen a flexible "consulting" position in the coaching staff, with most of his involvement in summer league, the offseason, and camp.

I put this in the other thread when the Pelicans fired Gentry, but I'll repost it here —

DocRI wrote:The Detroit Pistons have decided to part ways with Bob Beyer, our Associate Head Coach. We thank him for his years of service and wish him well.

The Detroit Pistons immediately offer the position of Associate Head Coach to Alvin Gentry. Our offer is the richest deal ever offered for an associate / assistant position — four years, $8M ($2M per season). Our sales pitch makes it clear that we envision him, to use a football analogy, as our "Offensive Coordinator;" we want to give him the reins on that end of the floor and let him innovate / modernize our anemic offense. We hope the substantial (and unprecedented) financial commitment lets him know just how much we want him.

Ettore Messina appreciates the opportunity the Spurs have given him, but is unable to pass up the chance to become a Head Coach for a team with the talent that the Pelicans have (Cousins/Davis) and decides to take the Pelicans offer.

The offers will be made by GM's first then I will decide if they choose to accept or not.

Corliss Williamson sees the potential to move up to eventual Head Coach (Vogel's job in Orlando seems safer than Hoiberg's in Chicago) with the Bulls and decides to accept the offer.

Scottie Pippen appreciates the offer, but decides to continue enjoying his retirement for now at least.

Fresh off being fired, Alvin Gentry decides to take some time before choosing his next opportunity. Not necessarily declining, just holding out for right now to see if anything else comes up before making a final decision.

Let´s hope Dell Demps will read this, this would be perfect.

And we completely understand his position. In fact, we let Alvin know that if we will not stand in his way should he receive an offer as a Head Coach beyond this off-season. Our substantial offer stands until he tells us he doesn't want it.

The Pelicans would like to offer Brian Shaw an assistant coach spot, knowing that he may get a chance to become a head coach in the future we will gladly help work with that as well.

Dallas wants Rick Carlisle to retire a Mav. We however would not stand in the way of any of his staff who had a chance at a better opportunity.
