Mock Off-Season: Free Agency Day 1

by sportscrazy
Okay guys, start making your bids. Free agency is open.

Notes:
-Day 1 will end at 9:00 PM ET on 06/06/2017. I will take my time digesting every offer and post the daily results. Day 2 technically will start at 9:00 PM ET on 06/06/2017 so any offers made after then will be for Day 2.
-You will use the cap space you have available to make different offers to free agents.
-If you are unsure if freeing up cap space you don't already have for a free agent is worth it based on his interest, keep in touch with his agent either by quoting me or PM'ing me
-Keep in mind, any offer made can be accepted. So if you offer a contract to your Plan A free agent AND to your Plan B free agent, your Plan B free agent could accept on Day 1 and your Plan A free agent may not make his decision until Day 3 when your cap space is already tied up.
-For sign and trades, talk to the free agent first then the other team if the free agent is open to a sign and trade.
-If you have any questions, let me know.

Also, I had some one PM me if trade negotiations should go here or the other threads. Please leave trades and the discussions involved in the other threads.

The Celtics offer Gordon Hayward the full max we can. We think reuniting him with Stevens would be great for him and us both. He would immediately be the Number 1 option on one of the top teams in the East.

Joining the Wizards gives Blake the opportunity to compete in a weaker conference making the Wizards the 2nd best team. Griffin will be the defacto leader of the team given his experience in Los Angeles and we'll look to him to be the face of the franchise along with Wall now that we've moved Bradley Beal. We've added Dwayne Wade's experience and are looking to dethrone the Cavaliers so Blake can have an opportunity to beat his most hated rival - Draymond Green - in the NBA Finals.

With that said, the Wizards are completely fine keeping Porter but we'd love to speak to him and see if he would agree to a S&T to the Clippers. The Clippers have sought an upgrade on the wings for half a decade and Porter would be a massive one for them, so big that they're willing to give up a star of Blake's caliber.

We'd also like to try to retain Mr.Bogdanovic. We like what he brings to our team and he's fit well around our players thus far - plus he will get an increased role with Wade being on a minutes restriction as he gets older. We will offer Bogdanovic the full MLE for 3 years with the 3rd year being a player option.

The Wizards would also like to make the following offers to the following players:

1) Jonathan Simmons - Full MLE ($8,406,000 per year) for 4 years.
- The Wizards have loved Simmons for a while now and would like to secure his services early on in the free agency. We've moved on from Beal and replaced him with Dwayne Wade who's known to have injury concerns - Simmons will get a lot of opportunities in Washington and is guaranteed to see 20+ minutes a game with the occasional opportunity to start in the short term. He's likely to be our full-time starter next year when Wade looks to cut down on his minutes. Simmons will get to play with stars such as Wall and Wade in the back court and compete against the King in the East.

2) Ben McLeMore - Full Bi-Annual Exception for 2 years, 2nd year Player Option ($3,290,000)
- The Wizards would like to bring in McLeMore and give him an opportunity to prove himself behind Wade as a backup guard. We have faith in his talents and would like to turn him into a rotational player at the earliest opportunity. He will get a chance to prove himself and we're allowing him to have a player option on the 2nd year so that he can pursue better opportunities once he proves his worth which we are certain he will be able to do as a Wizard.

3) Vince Carter - 1 year veterans minimum
- The Wizards would like Carter's experience and leadership and would limit his playing time. We value what he brings to the table and would like him to mentor our young players so that they can be productive for a long time like himself - namely Oubre who has the raw talent and athleticism but lacks the mentality required to be a successful longterm NBA player.

4) Tiago Splitter - Full Bi-Annual Exception for 2 years ($3,290,000 per year)

The OKC thunder offer Danillo Gallinari a 4 year deal with PO on 4th year starting at 17.5 million dollars with a 5% pay increase each season for a total of 4 years $75,427,187. We believe Gallo is the perfect fit in the cupcake sized hole left for us last year. W believe his inside/outside game meshes perfectly next to Westbrook and that his ability to create shots will make an ideal pairing with Johnson/Lavine as the first option when Russ sits.

We'd like to reach out to Andre roberson with our intent to offer a 4 year 52 million dollar contract, however we are waiting to officially offer until our cap space has been used. Dre is happy here and we love his game, our offer to Gallo does not reflect an intent to replace robes in the starting lineup, we just want to move him back to his natural sg spot where his length presents more matchup problems.

Spurs are interested in signing Chris Paul to a max 4 year offer sheet. We are currently over the cap but have secured a trade agreement that will allow us to move forward with this offer sheet. If Paul has significant interest we can execute the move and discuss how this Spurs team will be his best possible opportunity for a Championship ring.

The Houston Rockets offer the full Max contract to Blake Griffin... We feel when he replaces Ryan Anderson it would vault us into championship contention to combine with our shooting and James Harden... He'd put up Amare like numbers in D'Anotnis system and having a legit scorer on his team to take attention away... We become the second best team in the west with a shot to challenge Golden Sate with our two superstars..

The Houston Rockets offer Paul Millsap 3 year/92 million... We feel when he replaces Ryan Anderson it would vault us into championship contention to combine with our shooting and James Harden... We'd give you the full max but we dont have the space available...

The Houston Rockets offer the full max contract to Gordon Hayward... Giving him a chance to play with the perfect compliment to his game in a scoring PG that is willing to share the ball... D'antonis up tempo system would allow him to flourish offensively and help us become contenders with one of the top duos in the game...

We havent secured the space for them yet but were a trade away... please inform us if either client is interested then well get the ball rolling on getting the space...

The Pacers hope to keep Jeff Teague, though the price is a question as there were no deals last summer to use as a precedent. Jeff talks about how he always wanted to be a Pacer and we are very happy to have him. So we will go with the number that gets tossed around the most and negotiate from there?

Offer a 4yr80 million deal. For detail; we are looking to make it 22 mil the first year, 20.8, 19.4, and 17.8. Stays under the 7.5% of the first season while keeping the books a bit nicer for when Myles and PG gets their raises.

OKC would like to discuss the possibility of a sign and trade bringing him home. Just guaging his interest currently.

The Utah Jazz offer Gordon Hayward max offer of any length and with any player option Gordon would like from 1+1 to 4+1(with maximum 8% raises, compared to other teams that can only give 4%). He is our centerpiece... he's shown he can raise his level even more in those last playoffs and we believe he can be even more deadly offensive option for the Jazz. We believe we have established a great team with great culture and atmosphere where Gordon has shown he can have continuous growth and the team can grow alongside him. We are the only team in history to make the 20-30-40-50 wins jump in 4 consecutive years and we believe this trend can continue. We believe we are a winning team that's still on the rise. Numerous metrics show that this team was close to around 60 wins team this year if the team was healthy. We believe the Jazz are the best team for Gordon to win now among all candidates for his signing and we believe we have good basis for long-term success with good young players that have nowhere to go but up. We have the best defensive center in the league in Rudy Gobert who make us a top 3 defense by his mere presence. That's one of the best pieces to surround a budding star like Hayward - an unselfish offensively player, who plays high efficiency basketball on both ends, but doesn't require the ball in his hands. Rudy is tied with a long-term contract which assures the Jazz place around the top of defensive teams in the league for the foreseeable future. We believe Gordon is the other main piece of our puzzle making our offense hum. We appreciate Gordon moving full-time to Utah and spending the full summer in Utah last year working on his game, we believe this shows our other players the way hard work and dedication pays off. The Jazz were happy to provide Gordon with trainers on call to help him develop his game during last summer. We believe this shows the Jazz' ability to develop players and the Jazz' new state of the art training facility is just the next step toward it. We have hired one of the best young coaches in the game. A coach that has shown to consistently be able to extract the best of players and put them in the best position to succeed(Hill, Hayward, Gobert, Ingles, Favors, Hood ... all have shown his best with coach Snyder), a coach under the tutelage of whom Gordon was able to raise his game to the point of being one of the premier wings in the league, a coach who put him in the position to show his full array of athletic and skill attributes that led to a fully deserved All-Star selection in the Western conference.

We believe the Jazz are the perfect combination for Hayward to
1. Give him the best chance to win in the league
2. Be best compensated for his talents
3. Provide him the infrastructure and coaching to improve his game even further
4. Be a part of a community that loves him and appreciates him.
5. Grow and raise a family in one of the most family-freindly communities in the country.
6. Be a Jazz legend and put his name next to Karl Malone and John Stockton on the rafters at the end of his career.

We would like to hear what Gordon's thoughts are and would be happy to take his input in some of our decision making this summer.
--------------------------------------

The Utah Jazz would like to offer George Hill 4 year 76 million dollar offer to stay with the team that unlocked his offensive potential and the team that gives him a great chance to win. We believe after being ignored in the Indiana's offense, the Jazz utilized George's ability better than anyone before and we believe he's a great piece for the Jazz going forward. George can be assured he will be used to the best of his abilities. We will rely on him to be a solid point of attack defender, but we also see him being able to keep, if not improve his offensive production with another year in the Jazz offensive system. He will be given the chance to run PnR, unlike with other teams that have ignored his offensive creativity so far. We want George to retire with us and we are willing to offer him a 4 year contract going into his mid 30s. We also appreciate George's involvement in the community and we believe the community would welcome him back and love to have him back.
-------------------------------------
The Utah Jazz offer Joe Ingles 4 year 32M offer. We know that Joe wants to be back and we want him back too. Joe was one of Dennis Lindsey and Quin Snyder's revelations. We gave him the chance to be a an NBA player after numerous other teams passed on him and he took the opportunity and never looked back surpassing all expectation. As Joe has himself said, he loves the community and what the team has done for him and his family and he thinks the Jazz are the priority for his FA. We believe in this marriage and we want to give Joe long-term security, that's why we are offering him a 4 year deal to be our jackknife piece off the bench with consistent minutes with the possibility of getting starter minutes in case of injuries...

We're not quite ready to discuss specifics until Blake makes his intentions known. My guess is that he wants to stay in LA, but will be moving on if CP3 signs elsewhere. What we'd offer would be based on the knowledge that he's leaving la regardless but has a preference for OKC.

As an observer and Celtics fan i think Hayward has no interest in signing with Boston after dealing away the #1 offensive option for a draft picks. Less money (raises) and the situation might actually be worse than Utah. I hope though he signs because otherwise the Celtics will have to fight for the play offs in this imaginary next season.

The New Orleans Pelicans offer Jonathon Simmons 4y/$42 with the last year a PO. We and especially our new coach Ettore Messina would like to have his talents on both ends of the floor in our team and we could guarantee him a starting spot on the SF.

The Pelicans offer Arron Afflalo the full bi-annual exception for 2 years, 2nd year Player Option ($3,290,000).

Regarding Jrue Holiday: We would love to have him back in New Orleans but we won´t max him out --> we would listen to s&t offers for Holiday.

Thats a really fair offer, and you have my attention.

Talk to me about the protection on the pick; if it starts at top 20 next year, what kind of schedule of decreasing protection do you have in mind? I'm not interested if it's a "Nerlens-Noel-type" first that is guaranteed to never convey and then turns into two seconds, but if it's reasonable, we could do business here.

Thanks!

Thanks for your quick answer.

The protection would decrease to top-18 in 2019 and lotto-protected in 2020.

If you would take on Hill and Moore instead of Frazier, the protection would be: lotto-protected in 2018, top-10 in 2019, top-6 in 2020.

The Denver Nuggets offer All-Star Paul Millsap the full 4 year max (with any PO he wants, if necessary). He is the perfect complement next to our young core, and especially Nikola Jokic could learn from his skillset and leadership. He´s clearly our #1 option and our future would be much brighter with a top tier superstar like him on our roster.

And regarding your family, our organisation would do everything possible to support your wife Latoria and your three kids to make it a perfect change of scenery for all participants - the Denver Nuggets are a team in every aspect!

• The Detroit Pistons make it crystal clear to all 29 other franchises, through front channels, back channels, and every other method at their disposal, that we will match any offer sheet signed by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. We consider him one of our core building blocks and we are adamant about keeping him in Motown.

• The Detroit Pistons offer Kentavious Caldwell-Pope a five year, $112.5M contract ($22.5M per season), with the fourth year a player option. We view KCP as a blossoming cog and a perfect continuation of the historic lineage of Detroit Pistons SGs (Bing, Dumars, Hamilton, and now him). He is a clutch two-way player who sets the tone on both ends for us, and we cannot wait to watch him play with (and off of) two legit top scoring options like Isaiah Thomas and LaMarcus Alrdidge. In direct comparison, this deal is larger than the one Victor Oladipo signed last year, and Oladipo was drafted six spots ahead of KCP, which shows how much we value him. We are putting more guaranteed money than any other team can offer on the table, and we're also offering him the chance to opt out and renegotiate when he'll qualify for a 30% of cap salary. We love you, KCP, and we fully respect your desire to shop yourself around, but please let us be clear — you are NOT going anywhere.

• The Detroit Pistons offer a 2 year, fully-guaranteed minimum salary deal to UDFA Thomas Bryant (C, Indiana). If we had had the resources to trade for an additional second round pick, we would have drafted Bryant in a heartbeat. We feel Bryant was a fringe-first-round talent, and we would love to make him our developmental 3rd string center. And yes, "developmental" is a key word, because we're going to be 100% transparent and admit that we see him shuffling back and forth this season between our squad and the Grand Rapids Drive. But we're also going to be transparent and tell him that we may need to move Boban Marjanovic's contract within the next year, and if so there will be a clear path to bench minutes for him when we need a true backup center. Most importantly, he'll get to spend this year working with Drummond, Boban, and our new Associate Coach Alvin Gentry. Most second round draft picks don't get two years of fully guaranteed salary, but that's how much we'd like to welcome Bryant to Detroit and groom him in our pipeline.
