Forgotten Stars R3 - SuperDario vs. BdeRegt*

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Mon Aug 14, 2017 8:23 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on roster page).

1. Larry Bird - 1986 - 19.6
2. Steph Curry - 2015 - 16.8
3. Andre Iguodala - 2017 - 5.5
4. Carmelo Anthony - 2013 - 0
5. Danny Green - 2017 - 6.6
6. Artis Gilmore - 1973 - 12.41
7. Joel Anthony - 2011 - 1.3
8. Eric Snow - 1997 - 2.4

Total: 64.61/65

Steph Curry (40) / Eric Snow (8)
Danny Green (36) / Andre Iguodala (12)
Larry Bird (28) / Andre Iguodala (20)
Carmelo Anthony (38) / Larry Bird (10)
Artis Gilmore (40) / Joel Anthony (8)

First thing that jumps out to me that I'm surprised I didn't notice or wasn't mentioned before but this is Chicago Tyson Chandler. He is far from a defensive juggernaut and a minus offensively at this point in his career. Beverley is rookie year when far from an impactful player and Mullin is very old at this point and couldn't really do anything at this point.

Offensively, my team should really exploit Magic/Korver/Mullin/Amar'e in this match up but it won't change our general strategy. We will run lots of off ball action getting open shots for Melo/Curry/Bird/Green and freeing up the middle for Gilmore. I believe my team will be able to score in bunches against Dario.

Defensively, Green guards Wade, Bird guards Marion, and Melo guards Korver. Curry will start on Magic but when Iguodala is in at SF, he will guard Magic and allow Curry to go on Korver/Mullin. Gilmore should excel protecting the rim in this match up.

Overall, I think Dario has a good team but I think my team has more firepower and is set up to stop his team better than the other way around especially when considering years chosen for each player.

Starting Lineup
C - '08 Amar'e Stoudemire - 15.3 FGA - 2nd Team All-NBA, League Leader in TS%
PF - '07 Shawn Marion - 13.4 FG - All-Star
SF - '15 Kyle Korver - 8.0 FGA - All-Star, League Leader in 3pt% & TS%
SG - '10 Dwyane Wade - 19.6 FGA - 1st Team All-NBA, 2nd Team All-Defense, All-Star Game MVP
PG - '84 Magic Johnson - 11.6 FGA - 1st Team All-NBA, Assists Leader

Bench
'06 Tyson Chandler - 3.6 FGA
'13 Patrick Beverley - 4.6 FGA
'00 Chris Mullin - 4.0 FGA

64.8/65 FGA

Rotations
Amar'e (28) / Chandler (20)
Marion (40) / Amar'e (8)
Korver (36) / Mullin (12)
Wade (40) / Beverley (8)
Magic (40) / Beverley (8)

Write-up
Let me defend my bench real quick:
- People forget Chandler was MUCH better his last 2 years in CHI; in the chosen season he put up a better DBPM and DWS than he did in his DPOY season :o
- Other than volume, you'd be hard pressed to find any statistical category Beverley was worse at during his rookie campaign. Advances stats suggest it was his most effective year to date.
- Obviously this version of Mullin had lost a step (otherwise he'd be in my SL) but he was still an extremely efficient scorer. His 2.2 BPM was hardly a fluke, a number that he upped to 3.6 during the playoffs.
- All 3 bench players will see less time on the court than what they averaged during their chosen seasons.

Defensive match-ups:
- DWade will match up with Curry but will receive 16 minutes of relief from Beverley
- Marion gets to frustrate the hell out of Melo
- Magic, who was actually a solid defender in his early years, will take on his old friend/nemesis Larry Legend
- Korver hides on Green
- Amar'e faces off against Gilmore but will receive 20 minutes of relief from Chandler

General Strategy:
We decided to throw Amar'e back in the SL, where he will return to his expected workload. My philosophy is that, despite a tough match-up in Gilmore, Amar'e will do just as much damage on offense. Gilmore wasn't heralded for his quickness/mobility, and that should hurt him here.

More importantly, Magic will devour Curry when they match-up. We will continue to rely on the fast break, an area I'm not convinced Bde is equipped to defend.

This one has the makings of an offensive showdown and I know my team is up for the challenge. Good luck Bde, you've built a nice team.

Offensively, although SD has a nice team, BdeRegt has the advantage. Gilmore will give Amar'e a lot of problems at the rim. Defensively, I also like BdeRegt's team better.

Magic will have a nice series, not sure why BdeRegt doesn't switch Bird onto him and have Curry guard Korver. At least gives you a shot at not letting Magic murder you.

On the other end, Curry should have just as much fun.

Beyond that, I trust Bird/Gilmore more than Amare/Wade in this series.

Tough call between two very high powered teams. I guess I lean towards Bdregt's group. Both team have extremely good perimeters but Bdregt shoots the ball better and has an advantage on the block defensively.

That would leave Melo on Marion and take away Birds help defense. Curry is not a bad defender so think it's a better overall defense and prefer his offense if Magic is trying to go one on one to score versus hitting open players. I would definitely switch any action 1-4 and go under against anything involving Gilmore.

Yeah I vote BDE here. Too much defensive responsibility on Wade's shoulders, I just don't see SD's team stopping BDE's offense
