Middle America Roster Thread

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Tue Oct 10, 2017 9:52 pm

Please include this in your roster:

. Players
. Rotations (all your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes)
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is 90.0 FGAs or less. You can use the .85 multiplier on pre-merger seasons. You will round down if less than 5 or round up if greater than 5 (example 19.58 rounds to 19.6 while 19.52 rounds to 19.5).
. Write-ups if needed for rankings or if you like to do one

PF: 12/13 Serge Ibaka 9.7 (First team all-D, Led league in blocks, highest VORP and WS per 48 of career)
C: 13/14 Dwight Howard 11.2 (Second team all-NBA, 18pts/12rebs/2blks per game on 57.8% shooting)

BE: 04/05 Jason Terry 9.3 (Second highest WS per 48 of career in 30 MPG, 42.0% threes on 3.1 attempts)
BE: 86/87 Rodney McCray 9.7 (Second team all-D, highest WS and VORP of career)
BE: 92/93 Mark Eaton 2.0 (WS per 48 near career avg in 17 MPG, 9rebs/3blks per 36)

Total: 89.2 / 90.0

PG: Chauncey Billups (36)/Jason Terry (12)
SG: 78/79 David Thompson (38)/Jason Terry (10)
SF: 15/16 Kawhi Leonard (38)/ Rodney McCray (10)
PF: 12/13 Serge Ibaka (30)/Rodney McCray (18)
C: 13/14 Dwight Howard (34)/Mark Eaton (8)/Serge Ibaka (6)

Offense: Chauncey's solid floor leadership is supported by superb offensive weapons in Kawhi, Thompson, and Dwight. Spacing is good. Terry brings punch off the bench. The team is very capable offensively.

Defense: It's a block party with Howard and Ibaka. Kawhi, Chauncey, and McCray can be matched to just about any perimeter threat.

Overall: A team not really lacking in any facet of the game.

Strategy
The key to our success will be the our wing talent which is probably the strongest in this game. Of course it all starts with KD who needs no introduction, but we've also got a perfect complement for him in Hayward, who is not only great at creating his own shot, but also excels at spotting up, curling off screens, cutting to the basket, and filling the lanes in transition - all of which should make him an ideal #2 guy on the perimeter. Supplementing them is our super sixth man Ron Artest, an elite defender who at this point in his career is a reliable 3-point shooter on high volume. He should have plenty of joy beating up on opposing second units (he actually played a few games off the bench in 2008-09 and his numbers were actually a little better on a per 36 basis) and he can also play alongside KD and Hayward in an alignment that will allow us to switch liberally on defense while being a nightmare for opponents to match up with.

We're not just relying on the wing guys of course. Up front we've got peak Sikma taking opposing centers out of their comfort zone with his ability to shoot and make plays from the high post. He'll be well complemented by the ultimate glue guy in Buck, who will score efficiently in simple ways - duck-ins, crashing the offensive glass, running the floor, and the occasional short jumper - without needing plays to be called for him. Conley is a smart and unselfish floor general who knows how to get his big guns the ball in the right spots, but can also take on a larger burden if the need arises. Rounding out the rotation are Daniels (who randomly posted some of the best advanced stats I've ever seen from a backup PG in 2003-04 ) and a solid defensive center in Diop.

Taking our team as a whole, we believe can defend all five positions at a high level and have the versatility to match up with more orthodox two-big lineups as well as smallball equally effectively. At the other end, we've got probably the best offensive weapon in this player pool in KD, and have surrounded him with plenty of shooting and playmaking. Our smaller lineup with Hayward-KD-Artest at the 2-3-4 spots is a trump card few teams if any will be able to counter.

96 David Robinson 16.8
05 Ray Allen 19.2 19.2
10 Deron Williams 13.9
95 Robert Horry 8.4
00 Scottie Pippen 10.5
12 Thabo Sefolosha 3.7
11 Nick Collison 3.4
86 Fat Lever 13.6

89.5/90 fga

C: David Robinson ( 38 min ) / Nick Collison ( 10 min )
Pf: Robert Horry ( 36 min ) / Nick Collison ( 12 min )
Sf: Scottie Pippen ( 36 min ) / Thabo Sefolosha ( 12 min )
Sg: Ray Allen ( 38 min ) / Thabo Sedolosha ( 5 min ) / Fat Lever ( 5 min )
Pg: Deron Williams (36 min ) / Fat Lever (12 min )

All of my guys are at their peaks outsite of Pippen and Fat lever. It will be really hard to stop the pick and rolls/pops between Deron and David Robinson with Ray Allen running around screens bombing threes. The Spacing is good with good threepoint shooters in Allen, Deron, Thabo and Robert Horry. I have bunch of passers/playmakers in Deron, Fat Lever, Allen, Pippen and Horry.

Defense should be really good. Robinson anchors the defense and he supported by elite defenders in Pippen, Horry, Thabo, Fat Lever and Nick Collison

'79 Gus Williams - 16.1
'09 Chris Paul - 16.1
'78 Dan Issel - 15.7
'96 Shawn Kemp - 11.9
'05 Mike Miller - 10.1
'76 Bobby Jones - 9.1
'06 Bruce Bowen - 6.5
'09 Joel Pryzbilla - 3.3

89.8

Chris Paul (38) / Gus Williams (10)
Mike Miller (28) / Gus Williams (20)
Bruce Bowen (36) / Bobby Jones (12)
Shawn Kemp (32) / Bobby Jones (16)
Dan Issel (36) / Joel Pryzbilla (8) / Shawn Kemp (4)

We'll run our offense through the best guard in this tournament, Chris Paul. Dude was an absolute terror at his peak, and was nearly impossible to stay in front of. He has the ability to get to the rim at ease, shoot off the dribble, pass to open teammates, and anything else you ask of him. We've teamed him up in the backcourt with a couple off ball shooters and cutters in Miller and Bowen, although Miller at this stage of his career can very easily be more than that. We'll be sure to move them around a lot with a few different off-ball screen looks from our bigs. We also give him Gus Williams, another dynamic scorer and facilitator to work with. Williams was the number 1 option on a championship team and should do well next to Paul or without him.

In the frontcourt we give Paul a couple different options; First, is Shawn Kemp. An athletic freak who excels in PnR play and gets to the line at will, Kemp and Paul can have a very good very difficult to stop inside/outside game. Second, is Dan Issel. Issel is even more dynamic than Kemp (think less athletic Amare), and is even more well suited for the PnR/PnP game as well as having an excellent post up/face up game. Both have excellent mid-range Js, and can bring any bigs out of the paint so that Williams and Paul can work at the rim. Third, is Bobby Jones. Jones is arguably the perfect player, works well off the ball, has a nice jumper out to 18 feet, and can facilitate. Jones, once again will constantly keep the defense moving.

Defensively, this team is stout. Paul is a gnat, averaging 2.8 spg in the season selected (led the league). He also has shown the ability to guard bigger players so some of those post up point guards shouldn't give him trouble. Bowen needs no introduction, as he's one of the premier wing defenders around. He'll lock down the opponents best wing, and leave the easier matchup for Miller (who isn't a bad defender in his own right). Bobby Jones is once again, arguably the perfect player. He excels at post defense, help defense and rotations, as well as guarding bigger wings. We'll use him in a number of different situations and he'll likely excel in every one. Shawn Kemp will be the acting center on defense, and there's little that we're afraid of there. He's proven to be able to handle bigger players (1996 playoffs vs Hakeem's Rockets), and with help from Jones we're not worried.

This is a team that's extremely strong on both ends of the floor, very deep, and matches up well with any team they might go up against.

Ball Don't AI

Starters:

PG: Kyle Lowry (11: 10.8 FGA) .130 WS/48, 2.7 BPM, 37.6% 3pt
SG: Allen Iverson (08: 19.0 FGA) .163 WS/48, 1.6 BPM, All-star, .567 TS (highest of career)
SF: Clyde Drexler (91: 16.3 FGA) 6th in MVP, 2nd team All-NBA, All-star, .197 WS/48, 7.3 BPM
PF: Rasheed Wallace (99: 9.7 FGA) .169 WS/48, 1.9 BPM
C: Moses Malone (81: 19.3 FGA) 4th in MVP, 2nd team All-NBA, All-star, .202 WS/48, 3.7 BPM

Bench:
SF: Kyle Korver (10: 5.4 FGA) .130 WS/48, 0.4 BPM, 53.6% 3P (highest all time)
PF/C: Mason Plumlee (16: 6.3 FGA) .140 WS/48, 2.8 BPM
C: Steven Adams (14: 2.3 FGA) .114 WS/48, 0.3 BPM

Total FGA: 89.1 / 90

Rotation (subject to matchup):

PG: Kyle Lowry (38) / Allen Iverson (10)
SG: Allen Iverson (28) / Clyde Drexler (20)
SF: Clyde Drexler (18) / Kyle Korver (30)
PF: Rasheed Wallace (38) / Mason Plumlee (10)
C: Moses Malone (38) / Steven Adams (10)

I feel offense is the strength of my team. I have three high end talents on that end in Moses, Drexler and Iverson, who may either start or be my 6th man depending on the matchup. Each can put pressure on the opponent to have the personnel to guard Moses in the post and on the offensive glass, Drexler on the wing or Iverson's speed and creation. I have the best 3P% season in history in Korver to hit open shots off their attention and space the floor, and Rasheed also spaces the floor at PF and posts up. Lowry is a decent 3pt shooter and passer. Plumlee and Adams can get offensive boards.

Defensively Rasheed and Moses is a physically strong frontcourt, and Rasheed can guard star offensive bigs. Drexler is a solid wing defender who can do a manageable job on wings, and Lowry is a standout defensive point. This isn't the most stacked defensive team for All-D performers but we have an answer in those three players to not be left exposed against the variety of star matchups while on the other end teams will struggle to stop us

The Beard & The Brow

PG James Harden (40) / Kenny Smith (8)
SG Wesley Matthews (36) / Kenny Smith (12)
SF Nicolas Batum (36) / Bob Gross (12)
PF Anthony Davis (32) / Matt Bonner (8) / Bob Gross (8)
C Marc Gasol (40) / Anthony Davis (8)

FGA
2014-15 Anthony Davis: 17.6
2016-17 James Harden: 18.9
2016-17 Marc Gasol: 15.7
2013-14 Nicolas Batum: 10
2013-14 Wesley Matthews: 12.3
1975-76 Bob Gross: 5.3
1994-95 Kenny Smith: 7.3
2013-14 Matt Bonner: 2.7
89.8/90

We probably have the best offense of any team in the field. Our big three fits like a glove. The playmaking of Batum and Gasol will push the offense into rarified territory. Our rim protection should also be top notch. Batum or Matthews will cover the best offensive guard on the opposing team.

Our bench is also pretty great. Smith shot 42.5% from 3, so he can't be ignored. Gross is our defender off the bench. Bonner will make a shot or three.

Overall, our ability to space the floor from five positions at all times makes this an extremely dangerous team. We're also very good defensively. Vote dantley4prez, if you please.

PG: '04 Sam Cassell - 20/7/3, 40% 3PT, 4.3 BPM, All-NBA 2nd
SG: '09 Shane Battier - 7/5/2, 38% 3PT, 3.4 BPM, All-D 2nd
SF: '08 Carmelo Anthony - 26/7/3, 37% 3PT, All-NBA 3rd
PF: '05 Kevin Garnett - 22/14/6/2, 28.2 PER, 9.7 BPM, All-NBA 2nt, All-D 1st,
C: '96 Arvydas Sabonis - 15/8/2, 38% 3PT, 24.7 PER, 5.6 BPM

B1: '95 Detlef Schrempf - 19/6/3, 51% 3PT, 4.5 BPM, All-NBA 3rd
B2: '94 Nate McMillan - 6/5/4/3, 39% 3PT, 5.2 BPM, All-D 2nd
B3: '84 T.R Dunn - 6/7/3/2, 2.6 BPM, All-D 2nd

Melo - 19.2
KG - 16.6
Cassell - 15.7
Schrempf - 12.2
Sabonis - 9.9
Battier - 5.9
McMillan - 5.4
Dunn - 4.6

Total: 89.5

Cassell(36) / McMillan(12)
Battier(24) / Dunn(14) / McMillan(10)
Anthony(37) / Schrempf(6) / Battier(5)
Garnett(20) / Schrempf(28)
Sabonis(28) / Garnett(20)

This team is extremely well balanced across the board. KG is our star player, and we've reunited him with Sam Cassell (who helped KG carry the Wolves to a 58 win season) while adding an elite isolation scorer in Melo, an All-NBA caliber player off the bench in Schrempf, a 24+ PER center with elite passing, rebounding, and floor protection in Sabonis, and a number of All-D players in the backcourt in Battier, McMillan, and Dunn.

Our offense will hum with Cassell and KG being the primary playmakers, as Melo can act as a finisher where he's performed most effectively over the years. We've got incredible floor spacing, with everyone on my team besides TR Dunn and KG able to hit the 3, and quality tertiary scoring. Cassell and Melo can both create in the clutch, while KG fills in the gaps everywhere else.

Starting Lineup
C - '07 Tim Duncan - 14.1 FGA - NBA Champion, 1st Team All-NBA, 1st Team All-Defense
PF - '06 Andrei Kirilenko - 10.2 FGA - 1st Team All-Defense
SF - '05 Rashard Lewis - 16.2 FGA - All-Star, 20 ppg & 40% 3pt
SG - '86 Alvin Robertson - 13.3 FGA - DPOY, 2nd Team All-NBA
PG - '01 Steve Francis - 15.2 FGA - 7.0 VORP (League Leader), 6.6 BPM, 20 ppg & 40% 3pt

Bench
'96 Jeff Hornacek - 10.7 FGA - 62% TS, 4.3 BPM
'03 Shawn Bradley - 4.6 FGA - 60% TS, 4.3 BPM
'17 Joe Ingles - 5.5 FGA - 60% TS, 44% 3pt, 2.7 BPM

89.8/90 FGA

Rotation
Duncan (34) / Bradley (14)
Kirilenko (36) / Duncan (6) / Lewis (6)
Lewis (30) / Ingles (18)
Robertson (36) / Hornacek (12)
Francis (36) / Hornacek (12)

Why me?
- DPOY Robertson will take on best opposing guard; AK47 will take on best opposing forward; Duncan will anchor the defense with elite rim protection. Ingles is another solid perimeter defender and speaking of rim protection, 7'6'' Shawn Bradley will provide a healthy dose off the bench.
- Francis/Lewis/Duncan will lead the charge on offense, with Hornacek providing our reserves with a scoring spark. We love our combination of dynamic play-makers, sharp shooters, and everything in between.
- Did not cheap out on seasons.
- Not only is my bench talented, but their skill sets supplement my starting unit perfectly. There's a lot to be said for the versatility of a well-rounded roster.

Writeup:

My team star will be Peak Hakeem Olaujwon who had one of the greatest seasons ever during his peak. He was unstoppable in the post with his wide array of post moves which were very lethal to an opposing team. He also was one of the best defenders/shot blockers ever at his peak meaning that not only could he score on you at will, he could also shut down top notch players as well. Along with the fact is I will have Jason Kidd (who even in 2010) was very good at making his team around him much better, could knock down clutch shots, and shut down other guards. That was when he had a team which was no where near as good as this now he will share the Wing with Lillard and Wiggins both very great offensive players. Lillard and Wiggins ability to score (now enchanced due to Kidd) would make life much easier for the rest of my team who know will have easier shots , and while Derek Anderson and Grant didnt have their best seasons they still could make a lot of impact and I feel my stars would make it much easier for them to make impact.

This along with the fact that Asik was a great defensive player(see how Aldridge's production in the 2014 playoffs dramatically got reduced after Asik started guarding him). This means not only will I be unstoppable on offense but on defense as well

Write-Up:

I believe my team should be ranked in the top 4 since I have a potent big three who are very dynamic in Payton, Aguirre, and Walton who are in their peak seasons and I also have a great balance/flexibility of offense/defense that should carry my team.

Offensively, it's going to be a tough for any team to stop all three Gary Payton, Mark Aguirre, and Bill Walton as one is bound to go off and exploit their match-up. They all provide solid playmaking even Aguirre that season at 4.5 APG. Uncle Cliff and Danny Green provide spacing with their 3 point shooting and helps Payton, Walton, Aguirre, or even P. J Brown to do work from the mid-range or post offensively, which plays to their strengths. Walton and P.J Brown are good rebounders providing second chance opportunities.

Defensively, Payton is an arguably the best defender at his position with his tenacious effort on that end (might I add DPOY that season) while Walton anchors down the front-court defensively. Green/Robinson are decent enough defenders who aren't considered liability on that end. Aguirre might have a tough time defending, which is why I have Tony Allen who is first team all defender helping him out as well as Danny Green being another option. P.J. Brown is another solid defender who alongside Walton has Aguirre's back if he gets beat.

Balance-My team has great balance and flexibility from top to bottom overall. At the two position, I can opt to start Tony Allen if defense is needed and put Danny Green off the bench to provide offensive spark which is dependent on match-up. At the three position, Aguirre provides great offense as he averaged nearly 30 points that season while Allen can provide the defense as his back-up. At the four position, Robinson can provide the offensive punch either starting or from the bench as he's a decent three point shooter or I could opt to start P. J. Brown if defense is needed depending on match-ups. As you can see, I have great mix of offense/defense.

I think my potent big three of Payton, Walton, and Aguirre and great offensive/defensive balance/flexibility should lead my team to a spot in the final four. Vote CSF21!

Nash 02-03 13.6 FGA All NBA Third Team, 11.6 WS, 57.6 TS%
Posey 03-04 9.4 FGA 10.0 WS, 61.4 TS%, 38.6% from three
English 81-82 18.9 FGA 25 PPG, All NBA Second, 59.6 TS%
Dirk 06-07 17.2 FGA MVP, 17.3 WS (lead NBA), 60.5 TS%
Mutombo 94-95 7.7 FGA DPOY, 12.5 RPG, 3.9 BPG

Bench:

Derek Harper 86-87 12.9 FGA 20.0 PER, All Defensive Second, 2.2 SPG,
Andre Roberson 16-17 5.9 FGA All Defensive Second
Boris Diaw 12-13 4.4 FGA 60.3 TS%

90/90 FGA

Rotation:

Steve Nash (36)/Derek Harper (12)
James Posey (24)/Derek Harper (18)/Andre Roberson (6)
Alex English (37)/Andre Roberson (11)
Dirk Nowizki (25)/Boris Diaw (23)
Dikembe Mutombo (36)/Dirk Nowizki (12)

What if Dirk Nowizki and Steve Nash had stayed together? What if they'd had a DPOY Center alongside them, one even better than the one Dirk won a ring with in 2011? What if they'd had a group of all defensive level perimeter defenders in Harper, Posey, and Roberson around them to help them deal with troublesome opposing perimeter players? What if the second scoring option was the dude who lead the 80s in scoring and was well suited to a fast paced offensive system? What if it allowed us to at times run a lineup with two bigs who can drain the three ball on the floor at the same time?

All of these what ifs can be answered here. I view this team as a hybrid between the high octane Maverick teams of the early 2000s and the championship team from 2011. It has the best of both of those particular worlds and I think teams are going to have a hard time matching up against it. We've got a remarkably balanced and well spaced offense supplemented with elite rim protection and capable perimeter defense surrounding it.

We're also deep, with a nice defensive two way stretch big off the bench. Who starts between Roberson and English frankly depends on the matchup we're faced with. Against teams with weak offense on the wings we'll probably simply start English and simply overwhelm teams, but Roberson is there when he's needed. Derek Harper is one of the most underrated players, and he brings his shooting ability and great defense to our bench, making our bench a force to be reconed with.

Overall, this team has a high octane offense, and Nash/Dirk is the best and most proven offensive duo in this game. We've also got the right defensive pieces around them to make this team championship viable, and we present matchup issues all over the place with Dirk on our team.

Overall, my team is deserving of a top 4 spot. Thanks for your consideration!
