We did a version of the overlap idea a couple of years ago. The restriction was only applied to All-Stars though.

Even with expanding the era, doing all five starters seems like a headache. Most good players have careers longer than 10 years, so realistically you're looking at 60s to now for a sensible pool.

Seasons 1980 - 2020.

Round 1 - First qualified season (played 41 games or most games played in one conference if they were traded, is in the Eastern Conference, or you can start with the West.)
Round 2 - The last season they played 41 games must be in the Western Conference (unless you started with the west in round 1) (with most games being played in the west if they were traded that season.)
Round 3 - The last season they played 41 games or most games played in that conference if they were traded, must be the same conference you used in round 1.)
Round 4 - First qualified season they played 41 games or most games played in that conference if they were traded, must be the same conference you used in round 2.
Round 5 - Repeat round 3
Round 6 - Repeat round 4
Round 7 - Repeat round 1
Round 8 - Repeat round 2

I.E.,

Round 1 - Michael Jordan (first qualified season is 1985 in the Eastern Conference.)
Round 2 - David Robinson (last qualified season is 2003 in the Western Conference.)
Round 3 - Shane Battier (last qualified season is 2014 in the Eastern Conference.)
Round 4 - Terry Porter (first qualified season is 1986 in the Western Conference.)
Round 5 - OG Anunoby (last qualified season is 2020 in the Eastern Conference.)
Round 6 - James Posey (first qualified season is 2000 in the Western Conference.)
Round 7 - Steve Kerr (first qualified season is 1990 in the Eastern Conference.)
Round 8 - Marcus Camby (last qualified season is 2012 in the Western Conference.)

I'm not a big fan of picking a players year, and this is going to be tons of rookies/vets.

You can use any season between 1980-2020.
NBA - Pelicans,Hornets
NFL - Panthers
MLB - Braves
NHL - Ducks, Hurricanes
NCAAB - Tarheels, Wolverines, CHA 49ers
NCAAF - Tarheels, Wolverines, CHA 49ers
Soccer - PSG, CLT FC, USMNT, FRA, SCO
Golf - Tiger Woods
Tennis - Rafael Nadal
NASCAR - Joey Lagano

A draft with a set decade, and you are only allowed to use each season once. We could make it something you decide later, or to make it harder you could have to declare the season you’re using when you pick. Also, in this model, 2 seasons would go unused per team.

Ex

Decade - 2010s
1st: Kevin Durant - 2017
2nd: Klay Thompson - 2018
3rd: Nikola Jokic - 2019
4th: Serge Ibaka - 2012

Etc

No ideas spring to mind immediately, but I'd like to see the talent pool shaken up in some way, especially among the more modern players. Seems like we've been shuffling around the same names for a while.

Doesn't that make guys like Wade, Kawhi, and AD overpowered?

How about a game with restrictions on total all-stars for your team?

Every player on your team must have x career points or fewer. 10,000 perhaps? Open to suggestions on timeframe. Also, we would make it retired players only so you can’t just load up on current young guys

What about only allowing players who were drafted 2000 or later?

Even when games from more recent eras they still have guys like Duncan, KG, Kobe, Dirk, Nash, Pierce, etc.

Would probably need to remove LeBron

I think they're beatable with late picks having high 2nd and 3rd round picks

Possibly, although I still wonder if there are enough legit franchise players for those teams to build around (unless we have a low turnout like the current game).

Expansion Team Draft: only player seasons from the post-merger expansion teams are eligible.

Heat
Magic
Raptors
Grizzlies
Mavs
Wolves
Hornets/Bobcats
Hornets/Pelicans

For 10-12 drafters like we've been getting lately it's a workable pool. More than that and it gets dicey.

What about adding the teams that came over in the expansion (Nuggets/Pacers/Nets/Spurs)

No fgas limit bench and 60fgas limit starting five. Bench players can't start and maximum 25mins playing time. All eras to 2020?

Could there be some sort of journeyman game where your players have to combine for a hard to reach limit like 40 total teams or something? (you have to set it relatively high with the assumption is people will for many team players off the bench)

Did we not do something like this before?

Edit: Never mind, I was thinking of this game where you had to stay below a limit.

I may take the plunge and start something today, but the way things are looking now we'll struggle to get eight drafters...
