I like this since it's sort of an upside down draft - how soon does a player become worth his fga's? My concern is people in the middle might find it tough. The number of players who become top tier for a particular season might be limited. Also not having the season finder will make it more leg work.

Don't mind the straight third season idea either.

Starting this soon?

I'm now wondering how tedious this will be without the season finder.

Should the format be standard ABBABABA?

Should there be any limits on MVPs, etc?

Can you outline the general format you're thinking about?

With eight rounds does that mean we'd only be considering the first eight seasons?

I think that was Colbinii's intent.

Still feels like too much of it then comes down to getting the right draft spot.

I would just say you have to use the first, say, three years in the first three rounds, but in any order you choose. Then go to the strict order for the rest of the draft.

You could do

1st round - 1st or 2nd season
2nd round - 3rd or 4th season
3rd round - 5th or 6th season
4th round - 7th or 8th season
5th round - 9th or 10th season
6th round - 11th or 12th season
7th round - 13th or 14th season
8th round - 15th season or later

So some players become ineligible by the 7th and 8th rounds.

The Benjamin Button draft of starting with the old ones and then going to young would also work

I considered that too but I'm not sure how many viable players are left once you get past the 6th round.

For a different draft should be: 1st pick-1st year, 2nd pick-2nd year etc.

Makes it different, all about strategy and maybe some luck, the best players get picked towards the end of the draft.

It doesn't look too bad to me, I've been looking through drafts on basketball reference and there's a few players with 15 or more seasons every draft

Works for me as long as there's enough talent at the end.

What did you guys think of the 2 PG's and 2 C's starting game?

Certain minute allocations and we would use basketball reference for the positions?

We could also just count backwards from end of career for the second half of the draft.

Can someone in the common timeline start this one?

I'm probably gonna start a weirdo coach game at some point

9 round draft where you pick a coach including choosing a season
At least one of your players seasons must be for that coach

How about all the players have to have either played for the coach or played against him in the playoffs?

A game like where everyone played for the coach would be too overpowered for some coaches as you could lock up one coach players right away. Not sure about everyone playing against him in the playoffs but it feels like a different game. I wanted to do a game where you have to decide whether to take a Phil or Pop over a regular player. It might not be that far off from just a standard draft, but adding in someone having to play for them is at least a roadbump. I could possibly add a stipulation that prevents people from just using the coach connection on an 8 minute bench player. Maybe the player who played for the coach must have made an all-star or All NBA that year.

So how exactly does the coach affect the game apart from that one player? Is the coach supposed to be part of the evaluation of the team?

Yes

I just don't see how drafting a coach changes anything in a material way. A lot of what made guys like Pop and Phil successful is hard to quantify in terms of how it would affect a random group of All-Stars assembled for a fantasy playoff tournament. In fact, most of what coaches do in general isn't even public knowledge for us to judge in an informed way.

If people think a matchup is too close to call someone having the better coach could be enough to get their vote. Similar to benches.
