17-18 Season And One Draft - SF1: MadNESS vs Fadeaway_J

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sat Apr 21, 2018 1:17 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on roster page).

**First to 4 votes wins the championship**

WRITE UP:

Great Squad Fade. It will be a fun one.

The plan here is to attack with WB and my bigs. These are my strengths. Duncan and AD will carry us. Although Fade has good counters in Bird and Gobert, I think AD and Duncan together is too much to stop. Triple Double WB will handle Jrue, and Prince is a good enough defender to slow down Butler. Benches are about equal in hindsight. My big 3 carries me through this series.

Writeup
Spoiler:
Bird would almost certainly be primarily a 4 in the modern game, and that's how we're using him. His unique blend of volume scoring, passing, shooting, and off-ball movement - all at elite levels - will be the foundation of our offense. Butler is a terrific secondary scorer and playmaker, and Holiday's ability to fit in without dominating the ball makes him a great fit at FG. Throw in Redick's long-range sniping and perpetual motion off screens, and the inverted spacing provided by Gobert's prowess as a roll man, and this offense will be tough to stop. Defensively, the combination of Gobert, Butler, and Holiday is formidable, and Bird is a solid post defender accustomed to guarding PFs. Off the bench, the versatile Mbah a Moute can give 2s, 3s, and 4s a warm time, and Mejri is a capable rim protector.

Matchup Specific
We're sticking with Bird at the 4 against AD. It's a mismatch both ways, but we think AD dealing with one of the best offensive players ever at the peak of his powers is going to be even more of a problem than him being defended by Bird (who guarded PFs all the time). Bird is going to be running off screens and spacing out to beyond the arc, which is a nightmare for even a mobile big like AD. Gobert is a great counter to Duncan, and Holiday as one of the best defensive PGs in the game will make things tough for Westbrook. Korver at this stage of his career is not a 36-minute player and will get lit up by Redick.

Don't quite agree with Ness that the benches are equal. Mbah a Moute is the best reserve on either team, and Ness is using a PF/C (Moreland) at SF for 14 minutes. That combined with Prince/Korver vs. Butler/Redick/Bird (when he plays the 3) gives us a colossal edge at the wing spots which is tough to overcome in today's NBA.

Good luck Ness.

I don’t see a dominant offensive player on Fade’s team outside of Bird, so let’s go with MadNESS.

Tough series, but I think Jrue can complicate Westbrook’s inefficient impact. Gobert can do enough vs Duncan. I like the fit on Fade’s team quite a bit, albeit perhaps slightly less talented. Tough series, but in the end I don’t think Westbrook maximizes his teammates impact.

I think I voted Ness #1 and I don't see anything in this matchup that really changes my mind. His superior talent level, led by his big three of Duncan, Westbrook and AD, carry the day. I can be leery of Westbrook in these but AD and TD have the personalities and games to make it work.

This one is pretty close, but I'll side with the more depth and team play in Fade's team. I don't like Korver playing 36 minutes at this stage of his career and Moreland at SF for 14

I voted Ness #1 as well, but I had Fade 2 or 3 and I think the matchup plays into his favor a bit. I'm really torn here. Gonna reserve my judgement until tomorrow if votes are still needed.

Vote Fade - better fit and good matchups. AD wasn't the beast he was this year, and Butler will do well vs Taurean Prince

Bad habits - first time using this year.

Still think AD won't excel defending bird on the perimeter, although Bird will definitely need help on D

Didn't want to be the deciding vote but after much deliberation I'm going with Fade. AD/Bird will both do damage but AD won't be able to feast in the paint with Gobert lurking. Holiday is a good answer for Westbrook, and I think he and Butler do enough offensively to supplement a Bird-led attack. Again in a vacuum I lean towards Ness but the matchup doesn't do him any favors.
