Write-Up:

Team Specific: This offense is high powered that will run like a well oiled machine with a multi-faceted attack. Billups/Malone will hit you with the pick and pop. Dr. J is great slashing to the rim. Moses will do the dirty work in the post. Eddie Jones/Korver are great three point shooters alongside Billups. I have the best front-court trio in this game with Dr. J, Karl Malone, and Moses Malone. That's 3 MVPs. You read that correctly..I don't think anybody has 3 MVPs on their team. Defensively, you have five starters who made the all-defensive team in the seasons chosen with nobody being a liability starting. I don't think any other team has five starters who made the all-defensive teams in their season chosen. Not to mention my front-court trio made all-defensive first teams and their elite rebounding prowess they all have. Deke provides rim protection off the bench. Korver provides instant offense off the bench. This team is going to be tough to stop offensively and going to be tough to beat defensively especially with the physicality down low.

Match-Up Specific:

Offensively, my team will attack Nash and Drexler who are his weakest defenders starting. They have no where to hide in my high-powered offensive line-up. I'm assuming Nash will be on Billups while Drexler will be on Erving. A bigger Billups will be able to score in a variety of ways whether it's posting up on a smaller Nash, shooting from the 3 point line, and a ton of pick and pops/rolls with Karl Malone for Nash to struggle with. This is peak Dr. J who should have a favorable match-up against Drexler where defense wasn't his main strength. Green is a great defender, but he has never dealt with somebody like Malone before who is taller/bigger and a flat out scorer. Moses is bigger than Russell as well that will use to his advantage to get offensive rebounds.

Defensively, I match-up well against his team that there is no favorable match-ups for him that he can exploit especially for his perimeter scorers which is his bread and butter offensively. Billups will be on Nash, Eddie Jones will be on Wade, Dr. J will be on Drexler, Karl will be on Draymond, Moses will be on Bill. He's going to have a tough time generating ton of points with my five all-d members starting.

Spacing is another weakness I noticed on Snakebite's team. Yeah Green shot 38% that year, but that was more of anomaly than anything as he is near the low 30ish% shooter in his career from distance. I'll be happy to play off of Green when needed with Wade/Drexler driving to the rim. Nash is only legit three point shooter starting and it can get cramped with most of his starters like to player near the rim. On the other hand, my spacing is better where my back-court has two great three point shooters in Billups/Jones that provide great spacing as well as the ultimate three point specialist in Korver off the bench providing instant offense.

Overall, I have the better defense/offense in this and a great/favorable defensive alignment that I don't see any of his players really going off. Billups/Dr. J have favorable match-ups whom should do well offensively. Spacing is an issue on Snakebite's team too. Snakebites sacrificed defense in the perimeter to gain offense that was much needed after a stout front defense that was limited offensively, but that's going to cost him here as I can exploit that and that will be his achilles heel/downfall. In the end, my team led by my 3 MVPs in Dr. J/Karl Malone/Moses Malone, well-balanced offense, and dominant defense will be too much for Snakebite to overcome.

Alrighty, lets jump straight into matchup particulars. You already know both of these teams. You voted for both of them to advance to the next round. They're both very strong teams, so I don't feel the need to belabor any general points.

1) My rim protection: While he does have 2 solid shooters in the backcourt in Billups and Jones, it's clear his bread and butter is going to be post play and slashing from his 3 front court players. That's how he needs to win this game. My rim protection is a lot stronger than his, which should really limit his ability to score inside. Malone was a good midrange shooter, but he also loved the post, as did Dr. J. And Moses? He wasn't really a guy who scored much outside of a few feet, despite not being a great back to the basket threat. I think he has a lot of trouble in this matchup.

2) CSF's rim protection: I think to even begin a conversation about stopping my team starts with rim protection. With Wade and Drexler alonside Nash as the teams' quaterback, penetration is going to be an issue always. Unfortunately for CSF's team, rim protection is not his strong suite. Both of the Malone brothers are solid man defenders but aren't exactly guys known for really protecting the rim against attack, which is one of the reasons why Moses is a tough guy to build around in these. Malone is also out of his element guarding Green.

3) Playmaking. I think my playmaking is better than CSF's at every position in this matchup with the possible exception of the small forward position. Bill Russell wasn't outstanding as a scorer, but he was a great passer and supporting piece to an offense, while Moses generally tended to be a ball stopper- once the ball got down to him it usually didn't make it back out. That was fine in the 80s, a bit more problematic in the modern setting. I think the backcourt playmaking advantage is obvious, as is Green's advantage over Malone. That means my offense is going to be more fluid and dynamic than his, and everyone's roles are very clearly defined.

Now to some of his points:

1) Drexler's defense. I'm scratching my head at his attack on Drexler's defense. He's not a guy who needs to "hide" from anything. While it's true that he never made an all defensive team, his defensive metrics were always solid. He recorded more DWS and a better Defensive Box Plus Minus than either Eddie Jones or or Chauncey Billups did in chosen years. As much as I love Chauncey, he was always pretty overrated defensively. He was actually a net-negative defensively in the year CSF has chosen for him by DBPM. Drexler is far from a defensive liability here, and was nearly the size of Dr J and every bit as athletic. The criticisms against Nash defensively are fair, sure, but you'll have a hard time persuading me Chauncey is going to outplay him here.

2) Overall team defense: I think mine's better. As I established previously, Drexler was not a poor defender. I'd go so far as to say he was better than Chauncey in their respective years, and similar to Eddie Jones at least. I've easily got the two best defenders in this matchup in Russell and Draymond, and both of those are defensive floor general types who make their teammates better defensively in addition to their own impressive individual skills.

While he doesn't have any poor defenders in his starting lineup, he doesn't exactly have anyone lock-down capable, either. I do.

3) Spacing. It's up to the individual what weight you give to Draymond's shooting in the season I've chosen for him. I think he should be considered a threat out there given what he sustained in the season I've chosen for him, but he's still extremely effective operating as a playmaker out on the perimeter regardless. Ignoring him has it's consequences. I also think that the fact that Wade and Drexler both like to drive to the basket plays well against an opponent with (for this game) sub-par rim protection.

4) My frontcourt offense. Some might see a lack of scoring in my 4/5 combo. My perimeter is well set up to share most of the scoring load between each other. Draymond's shooting and playmaking make him a great supporting piece, and Russell was very good as a passer and offensive support as well as his offensive rebounding. We don't NEED them to be scorers, but the skills they do have on offense fit the rest of the team perfectly.

TL;DR: I think my team is more talented top to bottom and has an advantage on both ends of the floor. I think my front court defense matches up well against a team reliant on front court offense to really get things done, and I think I've got a palatable advantage out on the perimeter against his team. I also think his relative lack of rim protection hurts him defensively in this particular matchup, as does his lack of any "ace" defenders on the perimeter against my imposing group.

Thanks for your consideration.

Some rebuttal points:

1) Rim Protection: My rim protection may not be elite, but it is sufficient imo. Moses and Erving nearly averaged 2 blocks per game in their peak year. Not to mention that I have some guy named Deke off the bench who is one of the best rim protectors of all time. Granted this isn't peak Deke, but he did average a block a game, and per 36-2+ blocks a game. He will be in the game for only one reason and that's to block shots/protect the rim, which he does best. There's always going to be intimidation factor going against Deke as well peak or not. He always played hard and gave it hisall..heck he had a five block game the season chosen and multiple four block games as well.

2) Playmaking: I wouldn't underestimate Eddie Jones and Karl Malone as a passer, both were willing passers who were great at finding the open man. Both averaged 3-4 assists per game respectively as well as being the one of the main scorers on their team. They might not be elite at playmaking, but they were sufficient to get the job done imo.

3) Offense: I see more duplicate roles if anything with Wade/Drexler love doing the same thing which is slashing to the basket while his front-court players of Green/Russell not providing much offense and just push the ball out. I'm fine with Karl Malone on Green who is their 4th or 5th option on offense.. And like I said, I'm willing to take the chance of playing off Green so Karl can help out defensively against Clyde/Wade. I really don't see Draymond going off with him being a streaky and inconsistent shooter. As for my team, it's a multi-faceted attack that I have in my team write-up, my offense can hurt you from so many ways from inside and outside, and I have FIVE legit scorers that can score and don't need to limit anybody while he stated his perimeter trio is going to carry the load.

4) Defense: Imo, you have the two weakest starters from both teams defensively in Steve Nash and Clyde Drexler. From what I have read and seen, at times Drexler seems uninterested and lack of focus on the defensive end and gambled too much that hurt his defense. He was also a better help defender than man to man defender and that would be advantageous to Dr J. Sometimes advanced metrics could be swayed/misleading, there's always the eye test as well aka Klay Thompson. You'll have a hard time persuading me Clyde can stop peak Dr. J. I'd rather have FIVE defensive starters who all can play sufficient defense than have a couple lockdown defenders and not much else.

I think Russell makes the difference in this series as Erving and Moses rely on scoring at the basket and having GOAT level shotblocker will hurt them, and he is also a superb counter to Moses rebounding. Using 99 Malone and playing him 42 minutes hurts CSF a bit as well.

For what it's worth, Malone played nearly that amount of minutes in the playoffs that season. Also, Malone might not have put up stats from years past, but he was downright close and always mr. consistent. Heck, Malone won the MVP award in the season chosen.

This is a tough one. I think Nash will have a big series, as I think Chauncey's defensive ability has always been a bit overstated. Yes, Snake does have great rim protection, but collapsing off of the Malones to stop Erving is tough as both Moses & Karl can burn you. Drexler is a good defender, he will be fine on Erving. Ultimately, I really like the fit surrounding CSF's 3 MVP's, and so

I have no faith in either Billups on Nash or Eddie on Wade. Clyde’s scoring makes a big difference here. I think Karl will be fine guarding Draymond; I’m not even sure Draymond could hit two open threes in a row. Mutombo doesn’t get any credit for 8 minutes per game.

This is close. Doc gets all my love. I’m sure he’ll go off, but he’ll have to work to guard Drexler, too. Russell is Russell, Moses is Moses. Nash/Wade is a devastating fit for the opposing team, and I think the playmaking and 3 pt shooting of Snakebites wins the day.

Both teams have their pros and cons. For Snakebites, he has a fit issue with Draymond and Russell not being huge offensive threats, and Wade/Drexler overlapping a bit. For CSF, this is a tough matchup for him down low, as Draymond/Russell is an elite defensive pairing that would give the Malone’s a really tough time.

That being said, I think Dr. J has a big series here: enough to get the win in a close matchup.

This looks like perimeter versus interior. CSF has good answers defensively but Snakebites' answers are elite. I think his offense flows better as well.

Really tough for me. Was hoping not to vote but decided to keep things moving.

Russell is pretty much the perfect counter for Moses, though I expect the other Malone to give Draymond all he can handle. Both perimeter trios work well together but I lean towards Snakebites ever so slightly, both from a talent and fit standpoint. CSF has the better bench but it's not quite enough to tilt the scale in his favor.
