F: Shawn Kemp (20) | Dennis Rodman (28)

1990-91 Michael Jordan 22.4 FGA … All-NBA First Team – MVP – FMVP - NBA All-Defensive First Team

1990-90 Chris Mullin 16.3 … All-NBA Third Team
1990-90 Alvin Robertson 11.7 … NBA All-Defensive Second Team
2015-16 Andrew Bogut 4.0 …
2015-16 Mike Miller 1.4 …

Total FGA: 84.4

Team Strategy:

We have one of the strongest defensive units, we have some of the most versatile defenders of all time to provide a ridiculous amount of athleticism, ability to switch and rim protection on the back line.

On the perimeter Stockton is one of the all-time peskiest players with his quick hands, high basketball IQ and timing, and Jordan, Robertson and Rodman's length and speed in the passing lanes will make us incredibly tough to score on. Turnovers will prove especially costly against us as we're devastating in transition considering we not only have one of the best floor generals of all time, but great passers at virtually every positions and athletes like Jordan, Kemp and Robertson.

Finally we believe the fact that you'll rarely see a team as talented as this; equally be a great fit should go a long way. We don't have a lot of ISO players who'll compete for the ball we have Jordan, we have Kemp who is super efficient when being fed the ball, but also great at the rim, we have Stockton who orchestrates great offenses and doesn't let the ball stick, we have Mullin that compliments their slashing game perfectly; so the fit and roles are clear they just also happen to be greats at playing their roles.

Matchup:

Offensively, there's really no one to check MJ on the perimeter, we will utilize pick-and-rolls involving our wing players to maximize MJ's efficiency. This will put extra pressure on Narigo's not so stellar perimeter defense – either trying to contain MJ one-on-one or fight over screens to contest Stockton and Mullin's deadly pull-up threes. Kemp should also be successful here, his ability to attack from further out on the floor with his face-up game will wear Duncan down over time.

Defensively; combine the pesky defense of MJ and Stockton on the perimeter and of course Robertson off the bench and their perimeter will feel a lot of pressure. Kemp and Rodman are very good defenders who will give Duncan a challenge, Bogut has the strength to keep Robinson from getting his ideal position in the post.

Overall I believe we have the talent advantage, without a lock down defender on the wings MJ will excel and when MJ excels players like Stockton, Mullin and Kemp have the opportunity to have their efficiency skyrocket. We also have a solid game plan of suffocating their perimeter defense and the twin towers feed off their perimeter.

PG: 1991 Terry Porter 11.7 BPM:6.1
SG: 2007 Manu Ginobili 11.4 BPM:7.2
SF: 1986 James Worthy 14.5 BPM:4.1
PF: 2007 Tim Duncan 14.1 BPM:7.1
C: 1991 David Robinson 16.7 BPM:8.4

Bench
1986 Geoff Huston 3.3
2013 Danny Green 8.1 BPM:3.3
2013 Shane Battier 5.0 BPM:2.0
84.8/85 FGA

Minutes Distribution
Porter(40)/ Huston(8)
Ginobili(30)/Green(18)
Worthy(24) Battier(24)
Duncan(32)/ Worthy(16)
Robinsion(40)/Duncan(8)

Thoughts on team
This team has great chemistry because Robinson, Porter, Duncan and Ginobili have played together in real life on the 2002 Spurs. This time though, everyone on my team are in their prime. Duncan and Robinson had a lot of success together winning two titles. Both of them are excellent defensive anchors. Green and Battiers are great defenders. This team will be hard to score on.

Duncan was considered by many to be the best player in the league in 2007. Robinson was a top 3 player in 1991 behind Jordan and Magic. Putting Worthy and Battier at pf helps with spacing

Defense
For starters, I going to have Robinson guard Shawn Kemp. Historically, Robinson has done a excellent job guarding Kemp head to head. Shawn Kemp only averaged 13ppg per game against Robinson. With that being said, Smash3 doesnt have alot of scoring options outside Jordan and Mullin.

Smash3 is going to have Mullin be a spot up shooter which works in my favor because it forces Jordan do to all the work to create scoring opportunities. While John Stockton was very good playmaker, he was not known to be a assertive scorer.

Also Smash3 underrates my perimeter defense, Danny Green and Shane Battier are excellent defenders. Manu is also above average.

Having small guards to guard Jordan was blueprint to contain him in the 90s. So i going to do just that. I going to have Terry Porter guard Jordan to match up with his quickness. I also going to throw Shane Battier and Danny green to guard Jordan at times also. I going to have Manu guard Stockton.

Offense
Smash3 has a great defensive team but he does one flaw and that is Chris Mullin. I going to attack him with every opportunity i get. I going to force Mullin to be switched onto Porter and Manu and Worthy.

Smash3 also doesnt have answer to contain David Robinson. Old Bogut was a good defender but doesnt think he has enough athleticism to contain Robinson. Bogut in 2016 was injury prone and was put on minutes restriction with the Warrriors. Like I said before Robinson detroys Kemp head to head. Robinson scored 40 points a couple a times against him.

A over the hill Duncan was able to score 20 pts several times against Bogut. So i think Duncan will fare well also.

I think Narigo average perimeter defense catches up to him here, and Smash has the deeper team. Vote Smash

I'm not sure I understand the point of drafting defensive specialists like Green and Battier only to stick Porter with the task of guarding MJ. Even if I bought the stuff about small guards being the "blueprint to contain Jordan", given that nobody was actually able to do that in the 90s it's not a blueprint I would be following.

Bogut is being overextended here as a 30 mpg starting center against Robinson and Duncan. I'd also be concerned about Kemp getting into foul trouble in this matchup.

Narigo matches up well with Smash in a lot of ways, but Porter on MJ won't work out and Smash has two outstanding bench pieces in Rodman and Robertson.

Narigo has all the tools, but Porter won’t do well on MJ. With any one of his elite defenders on MJ he’d have this because of Bogut, but MJ going off is going to spell trouble.

Green or Battier should start over Manu, or Manu should guard MJ. Rodman is one of the best role players ever. Duncan and Robinson will destroy any chance they get at Bogut, but I believe in Smash’s team from top to bottom.
