Good luck Laimbeer, by the rankings this matchup is not a surprise
- This is not James Harden's series. We're painting an X on his back on defense, when the starting lineups are playing he's getting torched by Tmac. By playing 38 minutes he's running into plenty of MJ/Tmac minutes. On the other end MJ will defend him and take him out of the series physically and mentally. 14 Harden is more predictable and less used to off ball play, and the Rockets eventually learned they should just play a guy who gets out of the way in Beverley than try a pass first PG like Lin. While Harden is a talented 3rd guy, there's an argument to be made his impact on the game isn't higher than peak Draymond's, especially considering in a matchup against MJ/Tmac and playing as the 3rd option on offense.
Another matchup we really like is Draymond defending 2007 Dirk. Dirk struggled in the playoffs against a smaller defender in Jackson as his post game to dominate smaller defenders wasn't as good as in 2011. Draymond is a perfect guy to put in this version with his speed and physicality. Billups can guard Paul, Tmac guard Butler and Wallace and Mutombo can cancel out
- Laimbeer's bench is better but using 91 McMillan makes it closer. He is not a real 3pt shooter at this point in his career as he only averages 0.2 3PM and 0.6 3PA a game (17 for 48 for the season). He is a defense first role player like McKey. McMillan and Iguodala are playing 42 combined minutes, Ingles is playing 32 himself. Webster has some advanced stats but he's still an 18 minute 5/5/2 bench player and his 4 seasons previous to this one had been quite mediocre.
- Laimbeer has a lot of offense but we have the stronger defensive team. The four real elite defenders in the series are Wallace, Draymond, Mutombo and Jordan. Draymond and Wallace combo can clean up a lot of our mistakes. On the other end we have the better offensive perimeter with MJ/Tmac/Billups/Ingles vs Paul/Harden/Butler/Iguodala and McMilaln. We have good shooting with Billups 43% 3pt, Tmac 39%, Draymond 39%, Ingles 44%, these versions of Tmac and Draymond are at their best as shooters. Laimbeer's advantage on offense is really just Dirk vs Draymond.
- MJ is easily the best player in the series and the best closer. If in doubt he can be the difference.
