Same pick pairs draft Finals - Dr Positivity vs Laimbeer

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Thu Nov 15, 2018 2:12 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on roster page).

First to 4 votes wins, if there isn't a winner 24 hours after both write-ups are in the first to 3 votes wins

2008 Chris Paul (16.1 ) - Second in MVP, led league in assists and steals, 36.9% on 3.1 3PA
2007 Dirk Nowitzki (17.2 ) - Most Valuable Player, led league in W/S, 41.6% on 2.2 3PA
2015 Jimmy Butler (14.0) - All star, All-D, second highest W/S and VORP of career, 37.8% on 3.0 3PA
1995 Dikembe Mutombo (7.7) - Defensive Player of the Year, led league in blks, DPBM, 55.6 FG%
2014 James Harden (16.5 ) - Fifth in MVP, 25.4 pts/6.1 ast on 61.8% TS, 36.6% on 6.6 3PA
2017 Andre Iguodola (5.5) - Highest W/S per 48 of career, 36.2% on 2.3 3PA
1991 Nate McMillan (3.9) - 3-D player, 9.3 ast per 36, 35.4% on 0.6 3PA
1983 Marvin Webster (4.0) - 82 games/18.0 MPG on playoff team, 10.8 rebs/3.2 blks per 36, 50.8% FG

Dikembe Mutombo (38) / Marvin Webster (10)
Dirk Nowitzki (38) / Andre Iguodola (10)
Jimmy Butler (36) / Andre Iguodola (12)
James Harden (38) / Nate McMillan (10)
Chris Paul (38) / Nate McMillan (10)

84.9/85

A super charged version of the Houston Rockets. This is peak Paul with Harden and MVP Dirk. Loads of shooting and playmaking ability.

On defense, Deke and Webster provide 48 minutes of elite rim protection while Iggy, Butler, McMillan and Paul can be spotted against all types of threats.

Match-up specific:

Good luck, Dr P

Defensively we match up well. Inside Deke/Ben, Dirk/Dray. Our depth and defensive ability off the bench really benefits us here. We've got enough minutes from Iggy and Nate off the bench that we'd have Iggy, Nate, or Butler on Mike the entire game and on TMac for all but a limited amount of minutes. Ben's offensive limitations are huge as they allow Deke to patrol the hoop. Dr P has no interior offensive threats, and McGrady is one of the less desirable A- players to pair with Mike.

Offensively, we can't find a much better group with peak Dirk and Paul joined by Harden and Butler. TMac is meh and Billups overrated defensively.

Ingles is the only solid player off Dr P's bench, with Mahorn and McKey pretty cooked at this stage of their career (each have negative BPM in selected seasons).

Good luck Laimbeer, by the rankings this matchup is not a surprise

- This is not James Harden's series. We're painting an X on his back on defense, when the starting lineups are playing he's getting torched by Tmac. By playing 38 minutes he's running into plenty of MJ/Tmac minutes. On the other end MJ will defend him and take him out of the series physically and mentally. 14 Harden is more predictable and less used to off ball play, and the Rockets eventually learned they should just play a guy who gets out of the way in Beverley than try a pass first PG like Lin. While Harden is a talented 3rd guy, there's an argument to be made his impact on the game isn't higher than peak Draymond's, especially considering in a matchup against MJ/Tmac and playing as the 3rd option on offense.

Another matchup we really like is Draymond defending 2007 Dirk. Dirk struggled in the playoffs against a smaller defender in Jackson as his post game to dominate smaller defenders wasn't as good as in 2011. Draymond is a perfect guy to put in this version with his speed and physicality. Billups can guard Paul, Tmac guard Butler and Wallace and Mutombo can cancel out

- Laimbeer's bench is better but using 91 McMillan makes it closer. He is not a real 3pt shooter at this point in his career as he only averages 0.2 3PM and 0.6 3PA a game (17 for 48 for the season). He is a defense first role player like McKey. McMillan and Iguodala are playing 42 combined minutes, Ingles is playing 32 himself. Webster has some advanced stats but he's still an 18 minute 5/5/2 bench player and his 4 seasons previous to this one had been quite mediocre.

- Laimbeer has a lot of offense but we have the stronger defensive team. The four real elite defenders in the series are Wallace, Draymond, Mutombo and Jordan. Draymond and Wallace combo can clean up a lot of our mistakes. On the other end we have the better offensive perimeter with MJ/Tmac/Billups/Ingles vs Paul/Harden/Butler/Iguodala and McMilaln. We have good shooting with Billups 43% 3pt, Tmac 39%, Draymond 39%, Ingles 44%, these versions of Tmac and Draymond are at their best as shooters. Laimbeer's advantage on offense is really just Dirk vs Draymond.

- MJ is easily the best player in the series and the best closer. If in doubt he can be the difference.

16-17 Ingles shouldn't be playing 32 minutes. McKey and Mahorn won't contribute much. 38 minutes of Draymond and Ben seems excessive, too.

Laimbeer doesn't have an up tempo team, but he does have much better spacing.

Billups will be reduced to a spot-up role. 09 Paul could average 27/12 in this series. MVP Dirk led the Mavs to 67 wins.

I think Laimbeer will score more than Dr P. It is difficult for me to imagine a team with two guys who isolate as much as Jordan and McGrady playing well at this level. I think Dr P needs more pure shooting and offensive options at other positions.

Vote: Dr P

2007 Dirk kills Laimb's chances. Draymond is the perfect defender for him. If he chose 2011 things would be different. Without Dirk at his best I don't think Laimbeer can match the scoring of Jordan and TMac

I ranked Laimbeer #2 and Dr P #3. Both teams went with the two-headed dragon approach offensively. It's close but I vote Laimbeer because I trust his supporting cast (CP3, Butler) to do a better job of stepping up when needed.

If this doesn't get decided by the end of the day it will become a rankings draft where Laimbeer had highest vote

I give a slight edge to Laimbeer. I think as a collective the perimeter d of CP3, Harden, Butler is slightly ahead of Billups, Jordan, and McGrady. And even if Draymond is a good option to defend Dirk, Dirk will still give better than he is getting. Vote Laimbeer.

I've always found Dirk and Harden challenging to build with so I'm a bit surprised this turned out well.

Iguodala and McMillan off the bench made it tough.

I was originally planning to take Billups/Jordan/Mullin/Draymond/Moses but I didn't think I could beat Tony's offense with that matchup
