The Franchise Limit Draft R1 - Laimbeer* vs. Jon_3232

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Sat Feb 16, 2019 6:12 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours*, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances.**

* For this round the 24-hour window starts from 10 PM EDT today.

PG - Steve Nash (40) / Joe Dumars (4) / Giannis Antetokounmpo (4)
SG - Joe Dumars (34) / Sidney Moncrief (14)
SF - Scottie Pippen (38) / Giannis Antetokounmpo (10)
PF - Giannis Antetokounmpo (26) / Charles Oakley (22)
C - Nikola Jokic (36) / Manute Bol (8) / Charles Oakley (4)

FGA/Teams

2006-07 Steve Nash - 12.8 fga - 3 Teams
1995-96 Scottie Pippen - 15.8 fga - 3 Teams
2017-18 Giannis Antetokounmpo - 18.7 fga - 1 Team
1989-90 Joe Dumars - 14.1 fga - 1 Team
2017-18 Nikola Jokic - 13.5 fga - 1 Team
1991-92 Charles Oakley - 4.9 fga - 5 Teams
1991-92 Manute Bol - 1.8 fga - 4 Teams
1989-90 Sidney Moncrief - 3.3 - 2 Teams

84.9/85 FGA

20/20 Teams

2 fun teams, GL Laimbeer

My offense will be run by one of the best to do so in Nash, but every single player in the SL are above avg play makers which will make for some beautiful offense. Giannis is surrounded by elite shooting, even Pippen shot .374 on over 5 attempts per game and with Jokic being able to pull bigs away from the basket will allow Giannis to get to the rim.

defensively I’ll go...

Nash on Covington
Dumars on Paul
Pippen on Hill
Giannis on KG
Jokic on Sabonis

Luckily with this matchup Jokic’s lack of D isn’t a big deal, at this point in his career Sabonis was breaking down and lumbered up and down the court. Having Pippen on Hill and Dumars on Paul will be key in slowing down Laimbeers offense.
Giannis is perfect to go up against KG with his length and to help out off the bench Oakley will play physical and really aggravate KG.

Gook luck, Jon. You've put together a fun team.

I'm really struck by how similar these teams are. But I think I've got a couple of advantages.

Jon hiding Nash on Covington (6'9) may be his best alternative, but is still a bit of a problem since he's a big, athletic guy who's a high volume three point shooter who'll be getting a little better looks. Defensively, we can play straight up and matchup well - Paul/Nash, Hill/Dumars, Covington/Pippen, KG/Freak, Sabonis/Jokic.

I like my top two guys over Jon's by a tad. Peak KG v last seaon's Freak and peak Paul v Nash. My bench is nothing special but I do have two solid three point threats who played big minutes on very good teams. Oakley is decent, but Bol and a washed up Sid puts him at a bit of a disadvantage here.

Everyone, please withhold your votes until both managers confirm that their writeups are complete. Laimbeer is missing rotations and Jon's writeup was incomplete because Laimbeer hadn't posted a roster page.

Both these teams are really talented, but I feel the youth of Giannis and Jokic and their weaknesses (shooting and defense respectively) catches up to Jon here

Both teams have awesome starting lineups with weak benches that put them in tough situations. Delly and Johnson are playing considerably more than I'd like for Laimbeer, while Jon's spacing gets taken out back and shot whenever he goes to his second unit. Laimbeer has the stronger defensive unit led by peak KG, and doesn't have to screw around with matchups like Jon is doing with Nash (although Sabonis and Johnson are going to have headaches with Jokic making plays from the elbow and beyond).

As much as I like Jon's out-of-the-box starting five, that bench is just a killer. Delly and Anunoby are at least capable spot-up shooters who can fill a role alongside whichever stars Laimbeer has out there with them, but I think Jon will really struggle to score when he goes to his subs. That combined with the overall defensive edge decides it for me.

These are 2 similar teams. For me it comes down to the defensive matchups. I feel like Laimbeer can match up much better. I'm not sure there is a better choice to make to try to hide Nash on Covington but that's still not a matchup that would be ideal for Nash. Each one of these rounds will be close and it's those little things that matter so my vote is for Laimbeer here.

Laimbeer

I don't really like Jon's fit... Pretty much his 1-4 are all on ball playmakers and his 5 is also primarily a playmaker. Too much overlap. He doesn't have the kind of shooting necessary to maximize Nash's output.

Laimb can run things through CP3, Hill as a secondary playmaker, and use KG primarily as a finisher.
