The Franchise Limit Draft R1 - Colbinii vs. GeorgeMarcus*

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Sat Feb 16, 2019 6:13 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours*, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances.**

* For this round the 24-hour window starts from 10 PM EDT today.

Apologies to Colbinii. I was slow to update the roster page:

Starting Lineup
'10 Dwight Howard - 10.2 FGA - DPOY, 1st Team All-NBA
'90 Larry Bird - 20.2 FGA - 2nd Team All-NBA
'13 LeBron James - 17.8 FGA - MVP, Finals MVP, 1st Team All-Defense
'17 Danny Green - 6.6 FGA - 2nd Team All-Defense
'14 Damian Lillard - 15.9 FGA - 3rd Team All-NBA
Bench
'01 Aaron McKie - 9.8 FGA - 6MOY
'01 Derrick McKey - 2.1 FGA
'06 Greg Ostertag - 2.1 FGA

84.7/85 FGA

Rotation
Howard (40) / Ostertag (8)
Bird (40) / LeBron (8)
LeBron (32) / McKey (10) / Green (6)
Green (24) / McKie (24)
Lillard (40) / McKie (8)

Write-up
I have to keep my write-up brief but defensive assignments will go like this...
Lillard on Beverley
Green on Mullin
LeBron on TMac
Bird on Ibaka
Dwight on Duncan

It works well that my two weakest defenders- Dame and Larry- get to 'hide' on low volume offensive players. I prefer LeBron's athleticism against TMac's rather than running him through screens all night with Mullin. Dwight is as good of an answer for Duncan as any, and we have peak Aaron McKie to add defensive versatility off the bench.

Offensively, we will rely on the Bron/Bird 2-headed dragon with Lillard as a formidable 3rd fiddle. I emphasized BBIQ and skillset compatibility in my roster construction. Green (and McKie) offer spacing and effective off-ball play while Dwight's athleticism around the rim should keep TD honest.

All the guys playing 40 min averaged 40+ mpg in the playoffs in real life. Having a seamless and talented 6th man means our 2 aging vets combine for a meager 18 minutes amidst staggered substitutions. Even though McKey/Ostertag were past prime, they maintained effective play during their chosen seasons.

Good luck Colbini. You built a great team.

I am going to do my write-up now. It took George until almost 6 PM today to update his roster while I was available all day yesterday and most of today I had plans for the All-star game tonight.

My rotation will stay the same as my roster page.

Rotation
PG: Patrick Beverly [30], Tracy McGrady [18]
SG: Tracy McGrady [22], Chris Mullin [26]
SF: Chris Mullin [12], Joe Ingles [26], Keith Askins [10]
PF: Serge Ibaka [32], Tim Duncan [16]
C: Tim Duncan [24], Joakim Noah [24]

Offensively I have PEAK Tracy McGrady along with offensive peak Tim Duncan, Prime Chris Mullin with Joe Ingles coming off the bench as a dynamic shooter and extremely intelligent offensive player. We will rely heavily on Tracy McGrady/Tim Duncan pick and roll with Mullin, Ibaka, Ingles and Beverly supplying elite spacing around the perimeter. I have fantastic passers in Noah and Duncan to help keep the ball moving offensively and not get bogged down with McGrady.

Defensively my Rim Protection is phenomenal with Ibaka/Duncan/Noah all making it difficult for LeBron to finish inside. Although George has spacing, I have great defenders in Beverly/Mullin on the perimeter and Ibaka/Duncan inside. I like Ibaka's length and athleticism on older Bird with Duncan on Howard.

Couple key points:

Putting LeBron on McGrady all game is going to be detrimental to his stamina. As a long time LeBron supporter his best attribute defensively is used as a Safety, not a shut down corner. He doesn't have a strong track record of doing so in the post-season.

Forcing Bird into the pick and roll with a fantastic roll and pop guy in Ibaka should exploit some weaknesses. I expect this, in combination with great passers throughout my roster, to find great looks for my shooters.

Good Luck George!

Vote:
Spoiler:
George Marcus

Reasoning: I feel like Colbinii is asking a lot out of T-Mac being the #1 scorer, also playing 18 minutes as a point guard being a playmaker as well. Also, likely to defend Lebron defensively as I don't see Mullin as a good alternative. It's going to take a toll for T-Mac to be effective overall. Colbinii doesn't have the right personnel offensively to exploit George Marcus's weakest defenders in Lillard/Bird with Bev/Ibaka. Lebron gets the best of T-Mac than T-Mac does of him and leads the way. Benches are pretty comparable.

Both teams are really good but the combination of Lebron and Bird fit/basketball IQ with Dwight PNR and Green and Lillard spot up shooting is too much for me

Dwight matches up well vs Duncan, and while Duncan protects against lbj VERY WELL, Colbinii’s offense just isn’t enough to get it done outside of TMAC. Lbj/old Bird/Dwight/young Lillard are enough to get George the win.

Colbinii's team seems to be neither fish nor fowl - it's light on star power for this level of competition, yet the depth doesn't cover a number of bases. The wing defense is weak even for a real-life team let alone one of these games, and there's no contingency for guarding a perimeter oriented PF like Bird. I would have gone with Green on T-Mac to conserve LeBron's energy, but T-Mac is shouldering an even bigger burden at both ends anyway. GM has too much firepower and like CSF says, Colbinii lacks the personnel to exploit his weaker defenders.
