Big Board - Round 2 8on vs Jon_3232*

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Tue Oct 1, 2019 5:51 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your write-up.

1. Specific years for each player on your team

2. Rotations and minutes for each player

3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their write-ups.

If write-ups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page.

First to 3 votes advances.

PG Marcus Smart (32) / LeBron James (8) / Jon Barry (8)
SG Reggie Miller (40) / Clyde Drexler (8)
SF Clyde Drexler (32) / LeBron James (16)
PF LeBron James (16) / Pascal Siakam (32)
C Marc Gasol (36) / Pascal Siakam (4) / Ekpe Udoh (8)

FGA
2012-13 LeBron James: 17.8
2012-13 Marc Gasol: 10.9
1993-94 Reggie Miller: 13.2
1991-92 Clyde Drexler: 19.4
2018-19 Pascal Siakam: 11.8
2018-19 Marcus Smart: 7.1
1995-96 Jon Barry: 2.7
2018-19 Ekpe Udoh: 1.4
84.3/85

Defense
Smart on Butler
Drexler on Payton
Miller on Grant
LeBron on Mullin
Gasol on Hakeem
Siakam as free safety

This is a good matchup for us. Horace Grant can't guard LeBron, and he certainly can't guard any of my other starters. Mullin will have to hide somewhere as well.

Offensively, this team has a seamless fit. Gasol pulls Hakeem out of the paint. James slashes and kicks or finishes. Drexler is Wade with more range. It's kind of like a souped up version of the Heatles, featuring Clyde Drexler as Wade, Reggie Miller as Ray, Marcus Smart as Mario ************* Chalmers, and Pascal Siakam as Bosh.

It seems like Hakeem, Butler, and maybe Manute Bol have the privilege of guarding Pascal Siakam. That works in our favor.

Payton/Butler are both inside-out players. Jon doesn't have a lot of shooting on his team outside of Mullin and Bowen, neither of whom are high volume shooters.

We have the best player in the series, two All-NBA 1st team selections, just as many DPOYs, the best bench player by far, and a lot better spacing. Vote 8on

PG - Gary Payton (40) / Aaron McKie (8)
SG - Jimmy Butler (40) / Chris Mullin (8)
SF - Chris Mullin (28) / Bruce Bowen (20)
PF - Horace Grant (40) / Hakeem Olajuwon (4) / Jimmy Butler (4)
C - Hakeem Olajuwon (36) / Manute Bol (12)

1992/93 Hakeem Olajuwon - 19.5 fga
1997-98 Gary Payton - 15.6 fga
2014/15 Jimmy Butler - 14 fga
2002/03 Bruce Bowen - 5.8 fga
1991/92 Horace Grant - 9.8 fga
1989/90 Chris Mullin - 16.3 fga
1991/92 Manute Bol - 1.8 fga
2004/05 Aaron McKie - 2.1 fga

84.9/85 fga

Sorry for the wait, forgot about this.

GL 8 on

LeBron is the best player in the series, but he’s going to getting guarded by Grant, Bowen, and Butler. Gasol in the chosen year wasn’t a 3 pt shooter so Hakeem isn’t going to have to leave the rim. On Offense while Gasol was a great densive player, I think Hakeem will kill him. Gasol is way too slow to stay with Hakeem.

Smart isn’t a great starter and is very limited offensively. I’m going to hide Mullin on him. This will allow me to put Butler on Miller and Payton on Drexler.

Mullin on Smart
Butler on Miller
Payton on Drexler
Grant starts on James, with Bowen off the bench and spurts from Butler
Hakeem on Gasol

I like Jon's depth of offensive weapons and most of 8on's defensive assignments don't seem as tight.

I think 8on's offense makes more sense with LBJ beside peak Drexler and Miller providing slashing/shooting, and Siakam is nice bonus off the bench. LBJ is the difference overall too. Vote 8on

Would have liked to see LeBron playing more at the 4 with a better starting point guard than Smart. Switch out Siakam for Lowry and I think 8on can come away with the win. LeBron/Wade weren't a particularly great fit so spending so much FGA on Drexler doesn't seem like a wise choice either. On the flip side, Jon could have started Bowen here over Grant just to guard LeBron more. All in all, a close win for Jon.

I just don't think a LeBron team works with one shooter. Smart is a big liability, and Drexler/LeBron just doesn't work well imo. I don't like Jon's fit either but I think his defense will be the X factor and he has just enough scoring to pull it off.

Guys, guys.....

Smart is a shooter. Drexler has 3 pt range. Posey is a shooter. Siakam is playing 36 minutes. Reggie is Reggie. LeBron and Wade won two championships together and Drexler has even more range.

Cool?

Agreed. It’s worse with guys like LeBron and Shaq too. It’s to the point that a team with one of them can have a superior team and lose to teams that have to business beating them, they literally need Curry type guys at every position lol
I have Curry/Manu/Durant/Arvydas in the other game and it was argued I don’t have enough spacing...

If you guys had your way, Moses Malone wouldn’t have won a first round series. Ever.
