Unrestricted Draft R2 - DCRYsing89 vs MadNESS (DCRYsing89 advances)

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Tue Dec 3, 2019 5:00 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 4 votes wins, if there is no winner after 24 hours first to 3 votes wins **

Goodluck Ness, very formidable team.

Offensively we may not be elite, but are Manu and Dirk really the best covers for Kobe and Giannis?
Basically they will have their way, and be borderline unstoppable, with multiple playmakers, great shooters and depth allround our offense should run smoothly and efficiently.

Combine that with the fact our covers for the guys are perfect almost,
Billups on Porter
Bowen on Manu (smart team defender with length, will stop Manu from being effective for long stretches)
Kobe on Pierce (Pierce isn’t athletic as hell, Kobe’s isolation defense is elite so Pierce is going to struggle and won’t take much out of Kobe)
Giannis on Dirk (Giannis is basically a small guy with length, he would probably be the best possible matchup to stop Dirk, much quicker, more agile, but no loss of strength or size)
Dikembe on Shaq (this is a tough one, we know Dikembe won’t stop Shaq, but he was known to be one of the few that at times could slow and stand up to Shaq, so Shaq won’t have his way all the time)
Noting that we also have Bell on the bench who will give Manu fits when he gets Minutes, and Ingles who will give Pierce fits alongside a big body to Hack a Shaq if needed.

I feel our lockdown defense, elite depth, and the two MVPs give me a edge here against Ness’ team.

interesting teams, Offense vs Defense

I love the build around Shaq atleast on offense. Everyone around shaq is an elite shooter, can play of the ball and I don't think Dikembe has the strength to guard Shaq one on one

DCRy has way better defense than Madness with bunch of guys that can guard multiple positions.

I think Manu is a great defender so he should do a respectable job on Kobe but Dirk will have huge trouble with Giannis if he is guarding him but since Dikembe has no range I think Shaq will be able to help out Dirk when Giannis drives into the paint

overall I think Madness offense will run a lot smoother with perfect build around Shaq, multiple guys that are elite offball players and great threepoint shooters while DCRY's offense doesn't feel as smooth with few guys that like to dominate the ball in Giannis, Kobe and to an certain extend Billups and Dikembe might be in the way when Giannis drives into the paint

DCRY has the much better defense and I like his bench more so it will be close but it wont be enough imo

Thanks for bringing them up man, I wanted to address these points but didn’t feel they had a place in the write up.
I have 4 guys who like to have the ball in their hands often: Billups, Kobe, Giannis and Ingles
All of which have proven to be nice offball threats to and happy to cut and let the offense work for them when needed.

Giannis has thrived with bigs who can’t shoot before, Henson, RLopez and Plumlee as examples, only shooting bigs he has had are really BLopez and Henson in his last season, having a extra big at the rim generally doesn’t phase him because of his length and ability to cover ground, and now finish through contact.
Hand offs and pick and rolls are also something Giannis is amazing at, even if Shaq is hanging in the paint Giannis will force the rotation and can make the pass for a open dunk or layup to Dikembe, which will put Shaq in a tough position.

Definitely a clash of styles here - Ness has a lethal offensive team that fits like a glove, and DC's is equally dominant at the other end.

Giannis vs. Dirk leans towards DC for me. 2007 Dirk didn't have the killer midpost game he developed later, and Giannis is one of the few bigs athletic enough to hang with him out on the perimeter. On the other end, Dirk lacks the strength to deter Giannis from getting to the basket. The problem for me is Shaq, who is one of the very very few (possibly only) people in history who would overwhelm Giannis physically when they meet at the rim. And without a stretch 5 to pay attention to, he's going to be in help position most of the time.

There's also the fact that peak Shaq demands a certain amount of help even when guarded by someone like Deke, and Ness has so many shooters that said help will be severely punished.

DC does have a much better bench with Ingles and Bell, but I like Ness slashing the minutes of Jones without having to overtax his starters. When you look at who is actually on the court together, DC's depth advantage isn't as pronounced.

Not buying Manu being able to slow Kobe - he's a good defender for sure, but a lot of that is down to his help instincts rather than being this amazing one-on-one stopper. I do think he can work around Giannis but stylistically it's not an amazing fit for either player.

Very tough one but peak Shaq with this level of shooting around him is enough to overwhelm even against DC's amazing defence. Important to note that the likes of Dirk, Pierce, Porter, and Manu are much more than just shooters too, these are guys who can dominate entire playoff series to varying degrees.

Giannis running into Shaq in the paint will be his undoing. He went from 5-7th in mvp to a clear cut runaway favorite just by playing with a center who has 3 point range. Shaq is a Wall much bigger than Gasol was.

Ultimately, this will come down to Kobe/Giannis vs Shaq and Manu/Dirk pick and roll, all of which are unstoppable here.

Dirk Shaq are the two best scorers in this, but I would have Dcry winning if he had a midrange shooter at C, as Shaq/Manute Bol are hard to dunk on.

I’m gonna wait a bit and vote if nobody else does, as it’s quite close to me

Giannis will have less spacing than usual playing beside Mutombo, but fits well with Kobe. On the whole I think DCRY has enough offense between Kobe, Giannis and Billups, and an air tight defense. Vote DCRYsing89

Vote: DCRYsing89

MadNESS may have the best offense in this tournament but DCRY has a better defense and overall two-way team. Mutombo/Giannis is close to a perfect combo for guarding Shaq/Dirk. I like good benches so having Jingle Bell is nice.

I'll vote dcrysing. Dirk defending Giannis is just a nightmare, and the Shaq match-up is less of one.

Yes,
After 20 games I finally win a round

I will celebrate this for the next week,
And kind of poetically it comes against Ness, whom I have continuously had top notch battles with in GMAT.

GG Ness, Scary team you built and thanks for a great series.

Sorry I've sucked at voting in this tourney lol I'll be better... I like to spend time deliberating before I place my vote

(apologies to Ness who I would have favored slightly in this one)
