2010s past/present draft SF2 - Dr Positivity vs wackbone

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Thu Oct 8, 2020 3:14 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances. If we don't get 4 votes within 24 hours, then first to 3 advances.**

PG: Derrick Rose (2011: 19.7 FGA)
SG: Manu Ginobili (2010: 12.0 FGA)
SF: Jaylen Brown (2020: 15.6 FGA)
PF: Anthony Davis (2020: 17.7 FGA)
C: Serge Ibaka (2012: 7.4 FGA)

PG: Shaun Livingston (2016: 4.9 FGA)
SG/SF: Danny Green (2014: 7.4 FGA)
C: Chris Andersen (2011: 3.0 FGA)

PG: Derrick Rose (38) / Shaun Livingston (10)
SG: Manu Ginobili (32) / Danny Green (10) / Shaun Livingston (6)
SF: Jaylen Brown (20) / Danny Green (28)
PF: Anthony Davis (30) / Jaylen Brown (18)
C: Serge Ibaka (32) / Anthony Davis (8) / Chris Andersen (8)

Defensive matchups will be straight up to begin. Brown and Green will both get a solid amount of time on Paul.

- Both teams have a strong PG and PF combo, however talent wise the rest of our starting lineup favors us in my opinion. Manu and Brown should have the clear advantage over Ariza and Middleton, it is close on defensive end but offensively our wing combo is more explosive as Manu is the best offensively of the four and Ariza the weakest.

- We have the stronger defense with Davis and Ibaka anchoring us up front. Ibaka will be able to take advantage of Adams lack of range by being in position to block shots. Davis is the key to our defense as he is great against Dirk and against the Paul and Dirk pick and roll game. His best defender is at PG while our best defenders are frontcourt players. Our team is highly switchable which is a good matchup against his shooting driven attack in my opinion.

- Both teams have good depth, we have proven championship players in Livingston and Green, one of the best 3/D players in history. Birdman is a solid sub as well for 8 minutes, I think he is better than Prigioni.

Defensively we have to key to stopping him in Davis, and with 4 strong creators in Rose, Manu, Brown and Davis we will be able to outscore him. Our team is faster and more athletic and will put a lot pressure on him.

Dirk Nowitzki - 2011 - 16.2 FGA
Chris Paul - 2013 - 12.2 FGA
Khris Middleton - 2020 - 15.3 FGA
Trevor Ariza - 2014 - 11.1 FGA
Steven Adams - 2018 - 9.4 FGA
Montrezl Harrell - 2019 - 10.8 FGA
Duncan Robinson - 2020 - 9.4 FGA
Pablo Prigioni - 2014 - 3.0 FGA
87.4/88 FGA

Chris Paul (38) / Pablo Prigioni (10)
Trevor Ariza (26) / Duncan Robinson (22)
Khris Middleton (38) / Trevor Ariza (10)
Dirk Nowitzki (38) / Montrezl Harrell (10)
Steven Adams (30) / Montrezl Harrell (18)

Writeup:

From Roster Page:
Spoiler:
Depth wins championships. We have 7 starter-level players, whereas most teams have 5 or 6. Duncan Robinson and Montrezl Harrell are better bench pieces than most if not all other teams, while my starting lineup is great too. Chris Paul and Dirk Nowitzki is one of the best duos in this game, and Khris Middleton is an elite third banana. Dude was fantastic this season. Ariza and Adams are great complimentary pieces to round out the starting group.

Dirk isn't a great defender by any means, but CP3, Aria, Middleton, and Adams all are, and should cover for his shortcomings. Trez off of the bench is another great defensive big. I am not worried about our defense.

Offensively Chris Paul runs the show, and Dirk is our main offensive cog. Like I said before, Middleton slides in nicely as a complimentary star.

Depth wins. 7 great players.

CP3 and Dirk vs DRose and AD. Helluva matchup.

Defensively we will play mostly straight up, although I am going to have Dirk guard Ibaka and Adams/Harrell guard AD. I feel confident in all of our defensive matchups.

I just want to vouch for Khris Middleton for a minute. He had an amazing year, and I think him plus Ariza is only slightly behind Manu plus Jaylen, even with Ariza likely the worst of those 4.

Depth wise we still have the advantage. Prigioni and Birdman are both minimal factors, but these versions of Duncan Robinson and Montrezl Harrell have a significant impact edge over Danny Green and Shaun Livingston. Harrell especially provides an edge that Dr P can't match.

There is also a SIGNIFICANT 3 point shooting advantage for my team. Here are everyone's 3 point shooting numbers for both teams. See for yourself:

Pablo Prigioni - 46.4% on 2.1 att
Duncan Robinson - 44.6% on 8.3 att
Khris Middleton - 41.5% on 5.7 att
Trevor Ariza - 40.7% on 5.7 att
Dirk Nowitzki - 39.3% on 2.3 att
Chris Paul - 32.8% on 3.3 att
Steven Adams - N/A
Montrezl Harrell - N/A

Danny Green - 41.5% on 4.7 att
Jaylen Brown - 38.2% on 5.9 att
Manu Ginobili - 37.7% on 4.7 att
Derrick Rose - 33.2% on 4.8 att
Anthony Davis - 33.0% on 3.5 att
Shaun Livingston - N/A
Serge Ibaka - N/A
Chris Andersen - N/A

Depth and 3 point shooting get me the win here. Good luck Dr P

wackbone was in my top four, but I actually had DP ranked number 1. I think the MVP Rose and Prime Ginobili backcourt puts him over the top

I've said for a while that AD is one of the few natural PFs that could do a good defensive job on Dirk, and I think he's shown why in these playoffs. By contrast, I can't see Adams or Harrell having much luck hanging with AD one-on-one or in pick-and-roll. I do love CP3-Dirk + spacing as wack's offensive foundation, but between the AD problem and Robinson he has a couple of places Dr P can go at him defensively, which I don't think is true at the other end.

The team with the best player and playmaker take this series vs the team who has one playmaker and iso ball players who won't be able to outathlete their way into a win. Dirk singlehandedly took down LeBron Wade and Bosh as well Kobe Gasol Bynum, no way he loses to D Rose and AD.

Gotta say I like Dr P here. Don't trust either Adams or Harrell to guard Davis, and he'll get plenty of nice looks setup from Manu and D Rose. His defense seems like it can hold up a bit better, and I don't think he's got anything to worry about offensively, even if Wack has the best offensive weapons in the series.

vote: Dr P in 6 or 7
