Same Two Franchises Pairs Draft SF1 - wackbone vs. Fadeaway_J*

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Fri Apr 23, 2021 1:02 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances. If neither team has 3 votes after 24 hours, first to 2 votes advances, provided we aren't already tied 2-2.**

LeBron James (30) / Brent Barry (18)
Lamar Odom (32) / Charles Oakley (16)
Bill Laimbeer (32) / P.J. Tucker (16)

Writeup:

Helluva team as always, Fade

Defensively, we will start with Rose on Nash, Jones on Vince, LeBron on KD, Odom on Marion, and Laimbeer on Marc. Jones will also see time on Nash, and at the forwards LeBron will see time on Marion and Odom on KD.

Fade's offense is insane, no doubt about it. Nash+VC+KD in particular is a nasty trio. However, we have some high end defenders on VC (Jones - All-Def 2nd) and KD (LBJ - All-Def 1st and Odom who is solid). Rose isn't ideal to guard Nash, but is a serviceable defender. We have no true defensive weakness, and although Fade's offense is nasty, I think we can put up some resistance.

Our offense revolves around the Rose+LeBron 2 man game. Eddie Jones is the 3rd banana, with Odom and Laimbeer providing additional spacing. Barry (30 minutes off the bench) and Tucker (16 minutes) provide even more shooting.

Fade has some decent covers for LBJ, and I am assuming Marion will be his main defender. That isn't terrible for him. What IS terrible for him is the challenge of guarding Derrick Rose. MVP Rose could easily take over games, and here he will either be defended by Nash or VC, both of which would be a major concern. And he can't easily double Rose nor LBJ, because our plethora of shooters will make them pay.

Fade has an unreal offense without a doubt. But we have solid defensive covers, and Fade has no answer for MVP Derrick Rose. Rose+LBJ+Shooters is a pretty formidable offense in their own right, and our defense is certainly more stout.

Total: 87.9/88.0

A supercharged version of the SSOL Suns, with Amar'e replaced by DPOY Gasol and massive upgrades at the wing spots. KD and Vince can both run the floor, bomb from long range, and create their own shots in isolation, and will only be enhanced by the creative genius of Nash. Gasol is our defensive anchor, but we've also got quality shotblockers at spots 2 through 4, and Matrix is an elite do-everything defender. Rodman off the bench rounds out an outstanding defensive frontcourt. Livingston complements Nash nicely as a bigger defensive guard, and Kerr gives us another deadly sniper.

I'd like to address the role of Marc Gasol in my team since it came up more than once in the previous round. Being a somewhat slow-footed big man doesn't preclude you from being helpful in a team that likes to run. The Showtime Lakers featured an older Kareem pretty heavily. In more recent years, the current Bucks have been one of the two or three fastest teams in the league with Brook Lopez at the 5. The whole point of pushing the pace is to create opportunities before everyone gets up the court, so your 5 being slow doesn't necessarily matter. However, a guy like Gasol still helps us with his ability to a) make precise outlet passes to trigger early offense b) run plays on the secondary break if the initial action is stopped, and c) function as a hub when we do have to operate in the halfcourt (which will inevitably happen at some point).

Matchup
- We'll go mostly straight up to start except with Matrix on LeBron and KD on Odom. Nash on D-Rose is far from ideal, but it's worth noting that we have not only an elite defensive C in Gasol but also great shotblockers for their positions in Marion (1.5 bpg), KD (1.6), and Vince (1.1). Odom in particular is a very streaky shooter on low volume who isn't going to keep KD from helping at the rim.
- In general, I would say our defensive talent is being underrated; Nash can be attacked to be sure, but he's one player at the least important defensive position. Gasol, Marion, and Rodman are all elite, KD is solidly above average, and Vince is OK. In fact, I would strongly argue that our frontcourt is better defensively overall. Livingston is also a quality defensive backup guard.
- In any case, I think at some point just having solid individual covers isn't enough in this kind of environment where both teams are loaded with offensive talent. LeBron for example has never been able to do much to slow KD in real life, and this is KD flanked by MVP Nash, peak Vince, All-NBA Second Team Gasol, and All-Star Matrix. You're asking a lot for the primary defenders to contain all those guys when you have to face them as a collective. Eventually I feel our clear talent advantage will be too much to be outweighed by D-Rose scoring a few extra points against Nash.

Good luck wack.

Tough one to judge yet again.

MVP Rose vs MVP Nash would be crazy... Rose gets the edge on scoring no doubt, but Nash has the obvious edge running the offense and creating shots for others. Lebron vs KD is always great too.

My thoughts about Gasol being a bit slow stem from the comparison to the SSOL Suns. Those guys had Amare Stoudemire... one of the most athletic bigs of all time playing the position Gasol is playing here. Often times it was him and Nash leading the break. Gasol is the antithesis of that. In the half court tho, Gasol would be awesome with his passing ability.

I built a team years back with Lebron, Jones, Laimbeer, and Odom... I think they compliment each other nicely. Also built teams similar to Fade’s recently. I like both roster styles, but I think I’d have to go with the better flowing offense and better 3pt shooting team here.

Pretty good teams. I like what wack did with the Wade/Lebron like Rose/Lebron combo and the supporting cast is solid with spacing around them. Fade team fits really nice offensively but ultimately Lebron is the difference here for me. Vote wackbone.

Sorry about the wait guys

should be a fun series.

I really like the fit on both teams. Rose should go off with Nash being his primary defender. Lebron Should have a great series aswell with Laimbeer spacing the floor for him even with great defender like Shawn Marion on him.

I like Fade's team overall though. I think there is a bit of a talent gap in Fade's favor outsite of Lebron

it will be close since the fit is really great around Rose and Lebron but I think Fade's offense will be a bit tougher to stop

vote Fade
