The Expansion Team Draft R1 - MadNESS vs. O_6*

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Sat May 1, 2021 3:47 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances. If neither team has 4 votes after 24 hours, first to 3 votes advances, provided we aren't already tied 3-3.**

Total: 87.2 | 88.0

Write up:

Good luck O_6

Plan to play straight up - with Posey seeing a lot of time on Luka during the games.

Alonzo will own this series as KAT cannot defend him, nor anyone. And if AD switches to Alonzo - then KG goes bananas.

Hill is here for defense and shooting - much of what Billups (not prime) does there as well.

ISO Joe keeps Christie busy - which is perfect.

Melo has a monster series as well with Luka defending him.

Prime Melo and prime Alonzo own this one guys.

Benches are a wash.

Fit, spacing, Star power, size, depth - help NESS advance here! Prime Melo, KG and Zo move on!

2018 Karl-Anthony Towns (14.3 FGA)
2018 Anthony Davis (19.5 FGA)
2020 Luka Doncic (20.6 FGA)
2000 Doug Christie (10.5 FGA)
2009 Chauncey Billups (12.4 FGA)
2018 OG Anunoby (4.7 FGA)
2009 Marcin Gortat (3.0 FGA)
2017 Tyus Jones (3.0 FGA)

Total: 88.0 / 88.0 FGA

Towns (36) / Gortat (12)
Davis (40) / Anunoby (8)
Luka (40) / Anunoby (8)
Christie (36) / Anunoby (12)
Billups (36) / Jones (12)

Sorry guys, unexpectedly busy weekend. Gonna have to keep it light.

- Best offensive player in the matchup in Luka
- Best secondary ball-handler in still prime All-NBA 3rd team Billups
- Insane front court spacing and scoring with Davis/Towns for Luka to destroy Johnson/Melo

- NESS has the edge in defense and depth. But I feel like the offensive fit and talent of my starting unit is a clear edge and could be enough to make the difference. Luka + Billups orchestrating an offense with insane spacing/talent vs. ISO Joe, Melo, and George Hill running the show?

It would be a good one. Good luck to NESS.

Interesting matchup. O_6 has one of the most ridiculous offensive frontcourts I've ever seen, while Ness counters with an equally ridiculous (defensively) KG/Zo backed up by Rodman. Both Melo and Luka seem poised for big series, and with Luka being comfortably the better player that's a point to O_6. To me this is very much prime Billups (I consider his prime to be 2005-10), so having him as your fourth scorer is just insane. Ness has a much better bench, and I actually prefer KG-Rodman-Posey to guard to KAT-AD-Luka. Ultimately I think O_6 has too many good playmakers between Luka, Billups, and Christie, while KG is the only guy I'd call an above-average passer for Ness.

I don't love the idea of Joe Johnson+Carmelo on the wings, as I think they are a bit redundant. So with talent+fit in consideration, I slightly prefer O_6's big 4. However, Ness's next 4 are a lot better than O_6's, and in particular I don't like seeing 2018 Anunoby playing 28 minutes here. So while I do prefer O_6's big 4, I gotta go with Ness' depth.

I get wanting to maximize your talent with JJ, but I think it leaves Ness’s team with a lot of great scorers and playmakers and no floor general to really make it work.

JJ and Melo are both mostly isolation players who don’t generate as much offense for others, and they’re going to have the ball in their hands a lot.

I really love Ness’s front court but he just can’t compete with a Billups/Luka perimeter, even though I have defensive concerns there.

I kinda echo Snake's thoughts in terms of perimeter play. Ness' team is missing a high level distributing point guard, and O6 has 2. With that being said, Ness' interior defense is just ridiculous and, with both KG and Rodman, very capable of guarding a perimeter oriented attack. Melo is gonna torch Luka, although he'll be just as likely to give it up on the other end.

Very interesting match up and I've already flip-flopped a couple times.

Depth and defense carry the day for Ness

Even though I have issues with O_6 tanking his bench to get that SL, I think I prefer his starters pretty handily to MadNESS with Billups, Doncic and Davis as an excellent top 3, not crazy about BKN Joe especially beside Melo. Vote O_6

Close series, but i got to go with O_6

Ness’s lack of a floor general really hurts him, and echoing others thoughts, Joe Johnson and ‘Melo really make each other redundant. O_6 has a horrible bench but his firepower is too much in this round for that to matter
