No MVP big man draft R1 - Snakebites vs lilroddyb (lilroddyb advances)

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sat May 21, 2022 7:56 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances, if nobody has 4 votes 24 hours after voting starts first to 3 votes advances**

C: Al Horford 20 min / Ben Wallace 28 min
Pf: Horace Grant 33 min / Al Horford 15 min
Sf: Kawhi Leonard 38 min / Nicolas Batum 10 min
Sg: James Harden 38 min / Nicolas Batum 10 min
Pg: Terry Porter 38 min / Charlie Ward 10 min

Kawhi Leonard 2017 17.7
James Harden 2018 20.1
Al Horford 2018 10.5
Terry Porter 1991 11.7
Ben Wallace 2003 6
Horace Grant 1992 9.8
Nicolas Batum 2021 6.1
Charlie Ward 2001 6.1

tfga: 88

Good luck Snakebites

Defense

I got two average defenders in Harden and Terry Porter the rest are elite defenders.

defensive matchup

Horford on Noah
Horace Grant on Kirilenko
Harden on Mullin
Kawhi on Reggie
Terry Porter on CP3

Offense

All my starters are at their peaks. I think this roster really fits James Harden. This was Harden at his best scoring wise and now he has elite threepoint shooting all around. Horford will drag the bigs out of the paint with his threepoint and with his screening Harden can hunt favorable matchups vs Mullin or Miller. If Harden cools down we have one of the best iso scorers ever in Kawhi that can take over the game and eltie pg in Terry Porter stepping up.

overall
I think I got rebounding edge, defensive edge and the two best scorers in the series.

little bit about Horace grant since I think people sometimes think of him as role player but he was playing at star level in the season chosen. 14 ws, 237 ws/48, 61.8 ts%, 14 pts and could guard all positions

Chris Paul 14-15 14.3
Reggie Miller 93-94 13.2
Andrei Kirilenko 03-04 11.9
Andre Iguodala16-17 5.5
Chris Mullin 89-90 16.3
Joakim Noah 13-15 10.0
Patty Mills 13-14 4.2
Larry Nance 92-93 12.6

Paul 37/Mills 11
Reggie 36/Iggy 12
Mullin 32/Iggy 16
AK 35/Nance 13
Noah 34/Nance 14

Honestly? I thought about switching things around and going more defensive in my starting lineup, but I think that I like it better this way. Lets just go in and try to out-fire this team. I think I've got the tools to do it. I think CP3 with Reggie and Mullin is a terrifyingly effective offensive perimeter. With CP3 creating shots for his teammates, Mullin's elite all round scoring and supplemental playmaking, and Reggie's godly off-ball ability should have no trouble scoring against my opponent's defense. I personally prefer this unit (especially with Iggy off the bench) to roddy's, but that may come down to personal preference- I've never been in love with Harden-centric offenses.

While my starting wing-defense leaves some to be desired here, keep in mind that I've still got 28 minutes of Iggy here, and I've also got the eternally switchable Andrei Kirilenko and a strong help defender in Noah at center, which I think should limit Kawhi and Harden's effectiveness in penetration. Even when one of them is on the bench, Nance also offers some pretty solid help defense that should help smooth over my perimeter issues.

Generally speaking I prefer my 3-man big rotation to roddy's, and it comes without the offensive limitations that Ben Wallace places on an offense.

Individual defensive matchups can be overstated, but I find that it's particularly hard to cover for a weak defender on Kawhi given his style of play. There are a lot of midrange isos where he doesn't really get into a position where you can send help. Combine that with Harden mismatch hunting, and that Mullin-Miller combo can really be attacked when it's out there together (although the Harden-Mullin matchup is pretty much mutually assured destruction). Horford also provides a boost with his ability to stretch the floor. Not too many holes on either team but those specific elements tip the scales in roddy's favour for me.

I think Snake has more offensive pieces to utilize here. Even though I hate the defense of Reggie-Mullin, Harden gives up a lot on the other end too, and Snake has several other defensive pieces sprinkled throughout the lineup to try to cover for their shortcomings.

I'd have preferred using Hornets Paul here on a team with so many other off ball players, and that starting wing defense against Harden and Kawhi is obviously troubling. I think I liked roddy's team more in a vacuum anyways but definitely with that matchup. Vote lilroddyb.

I don't think I'm gonna vote in this one. I'm so biased against Harden that I don't think it would be fair to lilroddyb. What Harden has shown over the years is that he can't be trusted in any high leverage situation. It doesn't seem to matter how good or bad the opponent's defense is. I understand logically that Harden should destroy Miller and/or Mullin but I just don't trust him.

Gotta go with roddy. He has better two way players and though Harden is better on ball he can score well enough.

Yeah, figured I’d have trouble with this one. GG Roddy.
