No MVP big man draft R1 - Colbinii vs flaco (flaco advances)

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sat May 21, 2022 7:58 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances, if nobody has 4 votes 24 hours after voting starts first to 3 votes advances**

Rotation
PG: John Stockton (36) - LeBron James (12)
SG: Devin Booker (36) - Royce O'Neale (12)
SF: LeBron James (24) - Toni Kukoc (24)
PF: Dennis Rodman (36) - Chris Bosh (12)
C: Chris Bosh (22) - Arvydas Sabonis (26)

FGA
2013 LeBron 17.8
1995 Stockton 9.6
1996 Sabonis 9.9
1994 Rodman 3.7
2014 Bosh 12.1
1996 Kukoc 9.7
2022 Booker 20.9
2019 O'Neale 4.2

Total: 87.9

A few thoughts on the matchup:

  • Rodman is on Magic. Can't think of a better player to slow him down.
  • Stockton brings the ball up the court. He either plays PnP with Sabonis/Bosh or he hands over the reins to LeBron and then spaces the floor.
  • LeBron is the de facto playmaker. After all, he has pass-first mentality. More often than not, he makes the right basketball play instead of forcing his own shot. With this in mind, I needed to pair him with a score-first star who'd be happy to play either on or off the ball. Booker fits the bill. He's my second scoring option.
  • Talent-wise, imo Sabonis is the best big man in the draft. He can post up everybody, he can shoot the 3, he can create shots for his teammates, he can protect the rim, he can dominate the boards, he can do it all!
  • Bosh is mostly a floor spacer, like he was in Miami.

Good luck Colbinii, you got a nice team!

Roster
Magic Johnson (1990) 14.4
Clyde Drexler (1991) 16.3
Jrue Holiday (2021) 13.9
Pau Gasol (2008) 12.9
P.J. Tucker (2018) 5.4
Clifford Robinson (2000) 14.3
Alex Caruso (2021) 5.3
Joe Ingles (2017) 5.5

Rotation
Jrue Holiday (36), Alex Caruso (12)
Clyde Drexler (38), Alex Caruso (10)
Magic Johnson (38), Joe Ingles (10)
P.J. Tucker (30), Clifford Robinson (18)
Pau Gasol (36), Clifford Robinson (12)

Offense

We have a dynamic offense which can attack on the fast break with Magic and Clyde but also disect a defense in the half-court with with playmaking from Magic, Clyde and Gasol and a major size advantage with Robinson/Gasol at the 4/5 compared to James/Rodman at the 4 with Bosh at the 5.

Defense
Holiday --> Stockton/LeBron
Clyde --> Booker/O'Neal
Magic --> Rodman
Tucker --> LeBron
Gasol --> Bosh/Sabonis
Caruso --> Stockton
Clifford --> Bosh/Sabonis

Overall
-Strong LeBron matchup with Tucker and minutes if Holiday as well on James
-Bosh will struggle against Gasol and Rodman guarding Magic helps neutralize his rebounding
-Better defenders and more size throughout the roster [Holiday and Clyde are large for PG and SG]

Great matchup

I think Lebron and Magic will both have great series, I think Rodman was better guarding bigger guys at this point in his career and I think Lebron will go off with all the spacing around him. In the end I like the build slightly more around Lebron, I think Flacos defense is quite a bit stronger overall. The offensive impact will be similar

This would be a fun series to watch. Although LeBron-Stockton isn't the most natural fit, I do like the overall offensive IQ and the mix between on-ball and off-ball ability on flaco's roster. I don't even have any particular problem with Colbinii's team, just feel flaco has a bit more on both ends of the court.

Interesting matchup here, could see it going either way. Ultimately flaco's team makes a bit more sense to me. I would hate to see this series potentially be a sweep as I think it's super close.

I like both teams but two things that stand out to me is Rodman being better than Tucker, and flaco having a superb bench. Vote flaco.
