No MVP big man draft R1 - Blazer50 vs LA Bird (LA Bird advances)

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances, if nobody has 4 votes 24 hours after voting starts first to 3 votes advances**

Blazer50
Our game starts on the Defensive end -where we feature the DPOY (DH12) and 3 other All Defensive players in our starting lineup with Matisse (AllDEF(3)) off the bench. Our guys all have great size and length - led by Ben Simmons and Anfernee Hardaway. Our pressure D will lead to a lot of Transition bucket, but in the half court Dwight, Buck Williams and Odom will be setting solid screens - Simmons will be able to run P&R or lob to Dwight or penetrate and kick out for open looks. McGrady's AllNBA(1) selection included being the leagues leading scorer (32PPG) and we have Seth Curry 45+3pt% to keep LA from packing the lane. Lamar (who can play 4 spots) and Thybulle will be used as needed to spark the offense or put the clamps on a Hot handed opponent. Minutes would be adjusted to situations, but all my guys could play extended minutes in most situations. (As maligned as Ben has been this year - he did post 16/8/8 in 19-20 on outstanding efficiency - 1st team All D and 3 team All NBA. Doc Rivers only has himself to blame and can throw Harden under the bus this year!)

Starters
C: 2001 Dikembe Mutombo (10/14/3). DPOY, All NBA, All D.
PF: 2016 Draymond Green (14/10/7). All NBA, All D. 39% from 3.
SF: 2017 Kevin Durant (25/8/5). Finals MVP, All NBA. 38% from 3.
SG: 1990 Joe Dumars (18/3/5). All NBA, All D. 40% from 3.
PG: 2016 Russell Westbrook (24/8/10). All NBA.

Bench
F: 1991 Kevin McHale (18/7/2). All Star. 41% from 3.
F: 2003 Tayshaun Prince (3/1/1). 43% from 3.
G: 2008 Bruce Bowen (6/3/1). All D. 42% from 3.

Rotation
C: Mutombo (32) / Draymond (16)
PF: Draymond (16) / McHale (32)
SF: Durant (36) / Prince (8) / Bowen (4)
SG: Dumars (20) / Bowen (28)
PG: Westbrook (36) / Dumars (12)

Writeup
• Blazer50 only has one 3pt shooter in his starting lineup. Ben Simmons in particular can't shoot at all (6 FGs total outside of the paint for the entire year) and he will struggle badly in the half court against a Mutombo / Draymond interior defense
• Bruce Bowen will be the primary defender on McGrady but we have other long defenders in Durant and Prince to bother him too.
• Overall, we have more talent with 5 All NBA starters and an All Star McHale as 6th man off the bench.

Great teams guys

Blazer does have really big and physical team so it will be hard to deal with but LA Bird does have almost the best frontcourt defense you can ask for so its not going to be easy to score inside the paint vs Green and Mutombo. Both teams could be a bit better shooting the three but I prefer La Birds team overall, I think Ben Simmons and Dwight will be in the way of each other

Neither team has great spacing but Blazer's group basically allows LA Bird to camp out in the paint. Simmons, Penny, Dwight, and Buck just isn't viable in one lineup, and then Thybulle is coming off the bench to make things worse. Bird has the advantage in both talent and fit.

I liked where Blazers team was going but Ben Simmons claims another skull here. I have enough issues with him in a vacuum but especially when he's playing beside Penny, the only way I could see that combo work is if it was all off ball spacers at the other positions, and a Buck/Dwight frontcourt isn't that. The Green/Mutombo/McHale frontcourt should be pretty strong on both ends in addition to Russ and Durant. Vote LA Bird.
