No MVP big man draft R1 - Laimbeer vs MadNESS (Laimbeer advances)

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sat May 21, 2022 7:59 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 4 votes advances, if nobody has 4 votes 24 hours after voting starts first to 3 votes advances**

Picture the SSOL Suns with an elite closer (Wade) and better defense. We can run a crazy up tempo offense with shooting all over the place, along with finishers.

Nash can pick his poison here, with Wade, Peja, Sheed and Amare. Amaré can literally dominate this league with out the MVP Bigs. Sheed will always guard the better big man, with Amare taking the weaker big man.

Picked younger faster FMVP Wade here on purpose. Dude was lighting quick - hence the Flash nickname. He would be absolutely dominant in the Raja Bell role.

Christie comes off the bench guarding the second best guard/wing taking the pressure off Wade on defense when needed. We can also hide Nash at times with Christie on defense.

Prime Peja and Amare will have their way with MVP Nash. Any shot they want, they will get it. Peja is literally going to torch teams.

My team could virtually be unguardable, and we can defend just about anyone as well. Thanks to Christie in the 6th round.

Fun draft guys!

WRITE UP:

Goodluck Laimbeer!

Defense -

Plan to have Sheed defend Ewing with Evans giving him 6 hard fouls. Amare on Middleton I guess.... mismatch on both sides.
Peja on Posey. Wade on Manu. Nash on Lillard to start but Christie to close, with Nash hiding on Posey at times.

See above for our game plan.

Patrick Ewing ( 1992 ) 18.6
OG Anunoby ( 2020 ) 8.2
Khris Middleton ( 2020 ) 15.3
Manu Ginobili ( 2005 ) 10.5
Damian Lillard ( 2020 ) 20.4

James Posey ( 2006 ) 5.9
Brent Barry ( 2001 ) 6
Salah Mejri ( 2018 ) 3

87.9 / 88.0

Patrick Ewing (38) / Salah Mejri (10)
OG Anunoby (30) / James Posey (18)
Khris Middleton (36) / James Posey (12)
Manu Ginobili (36) / Brent Barry (12)
Damian Lillard (38) / Brent Barry (10)

Good luck, Ness.

We have a talented offensive unit that should thrive as they have some pretty big holes defensively. Sheed is not ideal to counter Ewing, and Amare will really struggle with Middleton. Any of our wings can take Peja on the bounce and Nash is getting lit up by Dame.

Defensively we have good answers with Ewing/Amare, OG/Wallace, Mids/Peja, and Manu/Wade. Dame isn't great on Nash, but we've got Ewing helping to clean things up.

Our bench has two guys who can come in and give a boost in Posey and Barry. Christie is a nice piece, but Evans and Outlaw are just filler.

Ness has made perhaps the best Nash offense we have seen in one of these games (but at the expense of some severe defensive limitations). The question is can that offense outpace Laimbeer's superior 2-way play?

Ness' team is a supercharged version of the SSOL Suns to be sure. But their downfall is ultimately Ness' as well here. There are too many defensive holes to cover with Nash, Peja, and Amare. So even though I love his team comp ultimately I think they fall short.

Ness has a heap of offense obviously with bad defense. How much does Wade get the ball? Next to Nash he has to pay offoffal, which isn't too bad, but takes away somewhat. Ewing is huge on both ends and Laimbeer just has that much better defense and fits well.

While the Wade/Nash fit isn't perfect, Ness offensive talent advantage is too high for me (even could afford 2004 Peja?), as I don't really trust players like Ewing and Lillard to be number 1 guys on championship caliber teams. With an ok perimeter defense I don't think it makes up the difference for Laimbeer. Vote MadNESS

I think MadNESS could've hid Amare on OG, and that would've been fine. Putting him on Middleton will be giving free buckets to Middleton, who is a baller from midrange.

Really hard to vote against NESS, whose team has a lot more talent, but that mismatch makes Middleton into a superstar and detracts a lot from Amare.

I think MadNess has the clear offensive edge, although there are some defensive question marks. Including the proven duo of Nash-Amare.

Why can't you guys build more conventional teams so I don't have to think so hard about these matchups?

Ness does have some defensive issues (agree that Amar'e on Middleton is a mistake), but maaaaaaan, that group is going to be so tough to stop or even contain. A big key here is that Ewing will be getting caught up in Nash-Amar'e pick-and-rolls, which will draw him away from the basket and put a big dent in Laimbeer's rim protection. Throw in Dame on Nash and Laimbeer's theoretical defensive edge takes a sizeable hit, and it's no contest on the other end.

MadNess has created a godly offense. But it's immediately killed by having Reggie Evans and Bo Outlaw. If those two play together that's 11 minutes with them both on the court. If their minutes are staggered then 1 of them will be on the court for half the game. So, MadNess's offense is not nearly as good as it looks at first. Moreover, Nash is gonna get absolutely killed by Lillard. Sheed is not a good enough defender to cover both Ewing and Lillard constantly in the paint. Vote: Laimbeer
