2023 East Cross-Standings Draft - R1 - Stan* vs twyzted

Post#1 » by durantbird » Wed May 31, 2023 6:18 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

Roster
1986 Larry Bird
2023 James Harden
1996 Toni Kukoc
1998 Vlade Divac
1981 Maurice Cheeks
2023 Marcus Smart
1996 Nick Anderson
2012 Boris Diaw

88/88

Rotation
Cheeks (36) Smart (12)
Harden (38) Smart (6) Anderson (4)
Bird (34) Anderson (14)
Kukoc (36) Bird (6) Diaw (6)
Divac (36) Diaw (12)

twyzted's team has very poor spacing and shooting, with basically no 3 point shooting in the backcourt. He's also getting virtually no production from his bench, putting the burden on his starting 5 to score almost all of his points. I feel like my team possess more talent, would be much more cohesive, and my bench would put a whopping on his.

Team Tindastóll:
Pg: Rajon Rondo - 10/11 - 9.9 fga
Sg: Jimmy Butler - 22/23 - 13.9fga
Sf: Charles Barkley - 89/90 - 14.9fga
Pf: Bam Adebayo - 20/21 - 12.5fga
C: Nikola Vucevic - 18/19 - 16.9fga

6th: Harold Miner - 93/94 - 8.3fga
7th: Mason Plumlee - 22/23 - 6.1fga
8th: Clarence Weatherspoon - 99/00 - 5.4fga

Rotation:
C: Vucevic 34mpg - plumlee 14 mpg
Pf: Bam 35mpg - Barkley 13mpg
Sf: Barkley 23mpg - Weatherspoon 15mpg - Butler 10mpg
Sg: Butler 28mpg - Miner 20mpg
Pg: Rondo 38mpg - miner 10mpg

We might have little spacing but Bam, Vuc and weatherspoon can drag his rim defenders away from the basket, which opens up the lane for rondo, butler, miner to drive to the basket.
Harden wont stop the player he is guarding from going to the basket.
Vuc and barkley can go to work in the post.
Diaw or kukoc are not stopping either barkley or bam as pfs.
My team matches much better defensivly against his.

Poor fit for twyzted here trying to start all those bigs and Rondo as the PG. Bird and Harden has some nice role players around them. Vote Stan.

Although twyzted has favorable matchups for his stars,
Stan has better offensive flow leading to his offense to be more efficient. Also, Stan has much superior bench as well.

A valiant first draft for twyzted, but the lack of any 3 point shooting whatsoever dooms him here.

This matchup was quite close. The defensive matchups weren't stated but twysted has better defense and Barkley has noone defending him, same with Bird, but Barkley in the post creates havoc. Props to twysted on first draft and some first time drafted players. Miner certainly didn't pan out at all but he was exciting to watch.

In all honesty, I think selecting Vucevic was a mistake on your part. In a vacuum, he's a useful player. Thing is, we operate under an FGA cap. All players are valued in relation to their FGA cost. Vuc is pretty expensive, plus he plays at a very deep position. For instance, durantbird drafted Moses Malone (a 3-time MVP) in the 3rd round. Vuc is nowhere near that level, yet he's (marginally) more expensive. When it comes to FGA management, it's a bit challenging to plan ahead unless you've already played a couple of games first. Allow me to name a few bargains to fill out your bench in future games.

Point Guards
2020 George Hill (6.4 FGA), 2022 Payton II (4.8), 2023 Caruso (4.3), 2013 Patty Mills (4.2), 1991 Nate McMillan (3.9), 2022 Delon Wright (3.5), 2013/2014 Prigioni (3.0)

Shooting Guards
Danny Green (multiple seasons), 2003 Doug Christie (7.0), 2015 Iggy (6.4, Finals MVP), 2001 Brent Barry (6.0), 1995 Mario Elie (6.0), 2010 Korver (5.4), 2012 Sefolosha (3.7)

Small Forwards
Shane Battier (multiple seasons), 2003 Bowen (5.8), 2008 James Posey (5.6), 2013 Mike Miller (3.9)

Power Forwards
2021 Batum (6.1), 2022 PJ Tucker (6.0), 2022 Grant Williams (5.6), 2013 Diaw (4.4), 1999 Horry (3.8), 1994 Rodman (3.7), 1996 Bo Outlaw (3.0)

Centers
2016 Bogut (4.0), 2018 McGee (3.4), 2021 Dwight Powell (3.3), 2011/2013 Chris Andersen (3.0)

There are loads of other bargains as well including star players like 2023 Jokic at only 14.8 FGA, 1990 Barkley at 14.9 (you picked him in this game), multiple seasons of Magic Johnson at around 12-14 FGA, etc.

GG to both you guys! Would have voted for Stan too due to better spacing.
