2023 East Cross-Standings Draft - R2 - durantbird* vs lilroddyb

Post#1 » by durantbird » Fri Jun 2, 2023 6:07 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

C: Moses Malone 83' - 16.7 - Champ, MVP, FMVP, All Defense First, 25.1 PER (led league), 58% TS, 4.0 OBPM

Bench: Terry Porter 99' - 7.4 - 41% 3, 60% TS, 16.9 PER, 1.9 OBPM, 1.0 DBPM

Rotation:
PG: Penny Hardaway 38 / Terry Porter 10
SG: Danny Green 32 / Terry Porter 14 / Dan Majerle 2
SF: Kawhi Leonard 28 / Dan Majerle 20
PF: Al Horford 38 / Kawhi Leonard 10
C: Moses Malone 38 / Marcin Gortat 10

87.6/88

vs

C: Alonzo Mourning 38 min / Chris Andersen 8 min / Kevin Garnett 2 min
Pf: Kevin Garnett 36 min / Gerald Wallace 12 min
Sf: Gerald Wallace 26 min / Tayshaun Prince 22 min
Sg: Ray Allen 38 min / Tayshaun Prince 10 min
Pg: Tyrese Haliburton 38 min / Pablo Prigioni 10 min

Matchup:
- Defensive assignments: Moses vs Mourning, Horford vs Garnett, Kawhi vs Allen, Green vs Wallace, Penny vs Haliburton.
- I think we have a nice matchup here. Horford/Moses vs Garnett/Mourning are a nice counter, and we have very good perimeter defense with Kawhi, Green, Majerle, Porter to put on his backcourt, with Penny being a solid defender as well. Green will take Allen for long stretches, allowing to keep Kawhi fresh. On the other side, Horford can drag KG away from the rim to reduce the value of his help defense. While Gerald can provide value as a wing defender, they might struggle to contain both Kawhi and Penny.
- We have a very good leading trio of Kawhi-Penny-Moses, having a nice case for 3 of the best 4 players in the series. Horford led a very good Atlanta team in those years, and is an over qualified fourth option, alongside nice depth in Green, Porter, Majerle, Gortat all being key contributors in very good teams, I'll certainly take Porter and Majerle over Prigioni and Prince. We also have very good shooting overall and lots of good passing to feed the shooters and find Moses for easy buckets.

2001 Ray Allen 16
2004 Tayshaund Prince 8.8
2000 Alonzo Mourning 15
2013 Chris Andersen 3
2023 Tyrese Haliburton 15
2013 Pablo Prigioni 3

tfga: 87.1

Best of luck DB, not liking my chances in this matchup

offense

I think my offense will be really balacanced with all of my starters being capable scorers and they fit well imo with clear facilitator in Tyrese haliburton who can run pick and roll/pos with KG/Alonzo, one of the best offball players in Ray Allen that will run around KG screens and Alonzo is a decent scorer himself.I got good spacing all around with really elite high volume threepoint shooters in Ray Allen and Haliburton and then I got decent threepoint shooters in Gerald Wallace, Tayshaun and PAblo and Good midrange shooter in KG.

Defense

all of my guys are good to elite defenders outside of Tyrese and Ray Allen

defensive matchup

Alonzo on Moses Malone
KG on Al Horford
Gerald Wallace on Kawhi
Ray on Penny
Tyrese on Haliburton on Danny Green

durantbird has too much umph here. I don't think Haliburton can be relied upon at this level. I do like Ray-Wallace-KG-Zo but overall I just prefer db's squad.

The lack of perimeter defense is pretty big for roddy here. Penny will do as he wants and that eases things for Kawhi and Moses on offense. Do think Allen gets his, with the good play of the bigs freeing him up but it doesn't offset things enough. Crash is a very good matchup against Kawhi but he isn't quite enough of a scorer to make a big difference. Durantbirds's bench is substantially better with Porter and Majerle still relevant and good role players.

Yeah durantbird nailed this draft. Roddy built an interesting team, although I agree with migya that Penny should do a lot of damage against that backcourt. Ultimately, three MVP-type players with well-fitting complementary pieces and a solid bench are too much to overcome.
