2023 HOF Class Draft R1 - durantbird vs. Fadeaway_J*

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Mon Aug 21, 2023 3:57 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

SF: Kawhi Leonard 17' - 17.7 - MVP (3), NBA First Team, All Defense First, 38% 3, 61% TS, 27.6 PER, 7.1 OBPM, 2.2 DBPM
PF: Trevor Ariza 13' - 8.1 - 36% 3, 54% TS, 2.0 DBPM
C: Alonzo Mourning 99' - 13.8 - MVP (2), All NBA First, DPOY, Blocks Leader, 24.6 PER, 56% TS, 2.5 OBPM, 2.2 DBPM

Bench: Bam Adebayo 20' - 11.0 - All Star, NBA Finalist, 20.3, 60% TS, 2.0 DBPM
Bench: Nicolas Batum 23' - 4.9 - 39% 3, 59% TS, 1.2 DBPM

Rotation:
PG: Conley 38 / Penny 10
SG: Penny 28 / Kawhi 20
SF: Kawhi 18 / Ariza 16 / Anderson 10 / Batum 4
PF: Ariza 16 / Bam 21 / Batum 11
C: Mourning 38 / Bam 10

87.9/88

High versatility with Penny being our smallest player after Conley. Great top end talent with 3 MVP level players in Penny Kawhi Mourning, plus peak form Conley being a great fourth option and Bam as an All-Star off the bench. We are extremely hard to put a basket on because we have zero holes, and very effective offensively as well.

Matchup:
- Defensive assignments: Conley vs Porter, Penny vs Bell, Ariza vs Butler, Kawhi vs Lewis, Mourning vs Duncan.
- We have an excellent matchup here. We've got an insane wing defender rotation that can switch on Butler with Kawhi-Ariza-Anderson-Batum, we got crazy defensive presence at the rim to defend against Duncan with Mourning-Bam, and Conley to handle Porter. We also benefit from having the Bam-Mourning frontcourt against a Butler team.
- We've got very good top end talent with three MVP candidates in Penny-Kawhi-Mourning, Conley in his peak defensive season as a fourth option, and Bam off the bench as fifth.
- Brogdon is a good sixth man, but Bam is the better talent off the bench.

Raja Bell - 11.8
Malcolm Brogdon - 10.9
Boris Diaw - 4.4
Richard Jefferson - 4.2

Total: 88.0/88.0

Pretty simple approach here: we play through Duncan on the block and Butler on the wing, with elite shooters around them. Butler's cutting provides an additional offensive dimension. Porter and Lewis slot in as excellent third and fourth options, and Brogdon adds another creator off the bench. Defensively, Duncan holds the fort down inside while we have size and versatility at all other positions. Butler and Bell backed up by Jefferson is a strong wing tandem, and Diaw can guard the post or move his feet out on the perimeter.

Matchup
- We'll defend straight up with Porter on Conley, Bell on Penny, Butler on Kawhi, Lewis on Ariza, and Duncan on Zo. There are no real weak spots to attack and Duncan is the ultimate security blanket.
- We have the overall shooting advantage with Penny being similar to Jimmy while Bam at the 4 and Anderson at the 3 are clear negatives. Even Ariza is pretty inconsistent compared to a guy like Lewis who you simply can't leave open, and also has the size to shoot over Kawhi.
- Bam is obviously better in a vacuum than Brogdon, but his iffy fit with Zo eats into his impact. Miami was able to use him at the 4 during that regular season by playing him alongside shooting bigs like Olynyk and Meyers Leonard, which isn't the case here.

Good luck durantbird.

I think Duncan and Butler with shooting and a quality 6th man around them makes a bit more sense to me, not sure if peak Conley will be as effective playing beside a star PG, and that's a ton of Bam and Mourning minutes together. Vote Fadeaway.

Bam is masquerading as a bench player and alongside Zo he's pretty redundant. Brogdon is more effective in these circumstances. DB's top end talent is a tick better but Fade's team works better.

Vote - Fade
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Fade has much better fit

GG Fade.

In many games the draft speed is slower and the talent is deeper. Had I been awake I would've gone Middleton in round 4, but I had to settle for Conley. Maybe next time
