The Doc Rivers Draft - Discussion

Draft Rules:

1. All NBA seasons up to and including 2022-23 are eligible, subject to the restriction outlined below.

2. Only players who have been coached* by Doc Rivers, or were teammates of his during his playing career, are eligible to be selected. (For the purposes of this draft, the current Bucks roster will be included among the eligible players.) You may use any season as long as the player selected meets these criteria.

Links for reference:

- Doc Rivers' coaching page which includes the rosters of the teams he coached >> https://www.basketball-reference.com/coaches/riverdo01c.html
- Doc's teammates >> https://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/teammates_and_opponents.fcgi?pid_select=Doc%20Rivers&pid=riverdo01&idx=players&type=t
- Current Bucks roster >> https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2024.html#all_roster

3. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations.

4. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you still be charged 3.0 for that player. There is a 0.85 FGA multiplier for seasons before the 1976-1977 merger.

5. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABABA

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to myself or another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. Draft order will be completely randomized.

10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.

11. The winner of the draft will be determined by rankings, playoffs, or hybrid (depending on numbers).

Team Roster Page Rules:

You will be responsible for creating a roster page for your fantasy team. Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page:

. Players
. Rotations
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 88.0 FGA

-All of the above must be completed before playoffs/rankings begin.

If you need me to get to 10 or 12 let me know. I don’t want to play, but I will if I’m NEEDED.

I want to play, but as I wrote in the future games thread - I think the pool is too shallow. How many players are we planning to accommodate here?

I'm on the fence with this number. I still think the pool might be too shallow, since I tried simulating it for 10 and got a bit stuck around round 4.

Remaining players would be too uninteresting and not worthy of their designated place in the rotation.

I guess I'll give it a go, but I'll be glad if we find a way to widen the pool.

I didn't notice it at first but I agree with durantbird, this pool looks pretty shallow to me. I don't see 100 draftable players when I skim all the team rosters and the teammates page; I get to ~55. Doc coached for multiple teams and a lot of years but there's usually roster continuity which restricts the player pool for our purposes.

If we get past 8 I'm dropping out.

So we can use any season, right? We're not restricted to seasons when a player was either a teammate of or coached by Doc, right?
