Put Them Over the Top Draft- Discussion Thread
1. Subject to the rules to be set out below, players from the 1989-90 to 2022-23 seasons will be available. You can use players that came into the league before 1989 but the season you choose can't be before 1989-90.
2. The object is to build a title team with a core of players who never quite got there. You will select a four player core and four wild cards as part of a five round draft. Your core can be selected in any round.
3. Your core of four players must meet these requirements...
A) You must use the same team/season for all four- for example, four players from the 2002 Sacramento Kings, using their 2002 season.
B) None of the four players ever won a title with that franchise
C) Each of the four players played at least half of the games for that franchise in each of at least 2 consecutive years. If one of those years is the 23-24 season, they must have 41 games in the current season as of 3/15/24.
D) Your core must only have maximum two players who have ever made an All-NBA First team at any stage in their careers.
4. Your four wild cards can be from any team or season from 1989-90 to 2022-23. However, you may select only one wild card who ever earned all-NBA or all-star awards, and the highest career award must be second team all-NBA or lower. The other three wild cards must have never earned all-NBA or all-star honors.
5. Overall FGA limit of 88.0
6. Draft order shall be ABBAB
7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.
8. All players will be charged a minimum of 3.0 FGA, even if they had fewer than 3.0 FGA per game.
8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.
10. Draft order will be completely randomized.
11. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.
12. The winner of the draft will be determined by rankings, playoffs, or hybrid (depending on numbers).

Rules edited to get rid of FGA limit for four man core, as per ideas thread discussion.

Re: Put Them Over the Top Draft
My current thoughts are that the star limitations makes this a fairly flexible game in terms of how many people should be in it.
I definitely don't want to roll with fewer than 8, but I would love to get at least 10.

Re: Put Them Over the Top Draft
Just to confirm, if I pick the 2023 Timberwolves with Gobert/Towns/ANT/McLaughlin, nobody else can pick either of those 4 players as a wild card?

Correct.
As with any other draft, no player may be selected twice.
If you take KAT as a wildcard, nobody would be allowed to take him as part of a core either.

Count me in.
Do all-defensive team selections count as all-NBA honors?

No. Nor All-Rookie.

Re: Put Them Over the Top Draft
I’d prefer to start sooner than Sunday given my own schedule. If we can get one more before then I’ll go ahead and start it.
If nobody else signs up by Saturday evening, we’ll add DurantBird and start the clock on Sunday.

When do you intend to start? Are signups still open?

To be honest I didn’t think we’d get a 10th that fast.
Do you think this pool can take more?
