Degree of Sepration Draft RD1 MadNESS * -V- Dr. Positivity

Post#1 » by Larry_Russell » Wed Sep 25, 2024 1:15 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

Write Up:

GL Dr. P

Another test for my great squad!

Defense:

Plan is to again play straight up. We feel we have the best defensive wing combo in the draft, with Kobe and Butler able to defend Ray Allen and Paul Pierce very well. Can the same thing be said for the reverse? Tyson Chandler was DPOY so he will check Shaq. We will have 6 hard fouls from Tucker off the bench. 8 minutes of Scalenbrine should serve us nicely. We will try minimize Kidd and Billups the best we can, and Caruso will defend them when times get tough.

Offense:

Same story. Nash has the world as his platter. We will try to put Shaq in tough spots in the pick and rolls and pick and pops. I think we have the 2nd, 3rd and 4th best players of the series. Overall I think the Nash/Kobe/Dirk trio with Butler as a super role player is just too much for any team to defend.

We are 8 deep and don’t have any fake bench players.

3 MVP’s vs 1. Vote NESS!

GL MadNESS

Defensive matchups: Kidd on Kobe, Billups on Nash, Pierce on Butler, Sheed on Dirk, Shaq on Chandler

We're going a little bit weird here but I think Kidd and Billups can play together, maybe it's a little less effective on offense but is better on defense against his team. Meanwhile Allen is the best bench player in the series and our 4 perimeter 2000s stars around Shaq is a lot. Kobe and Butler's games overlap a bit not to mention Nash is also ball dominant himself, and Shaq who averaged 2.8 blocks in 04 playoffs can make a defensive impact not having to leave Chandler. 2006 CliffRob at least played 25mpg in the playoffs for the Nets.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

I don't like the matchup for Dr P. Having to start both Kidd and Billups isn't ideal. With Shaq not being in a peak year, MadNess has a solid case for 3 of the best players in the series, with Butler bot far behind Dr P's best players. Not a fan of Dr P's 7-8.

Dr P's team would be pretty lethal with threepeat Shaq, but the 2004 isn't the same advantage creator even though still super effective. Ness just has clear talent advantages at three positions, and Butler has an argument as SF as well. Furthermore, Dr P's team is essentially six deep, while Ness has three rock solid bench pieces albeit no-one on Allen's level. I do kinda wonder about Butler's place here as well, but the talent gap is too large for this to be a factor.

How can I not vote for the team that beat mine

I kid.

But Fade is correct, having Billups/Allen/Pierce around 2000 or 2001 Shaq (or even 1995) would be lethal. Unfortunately, he was no longer the same player by 2004, making this kind of lopsided talent wise. Could be argued that Ness has the three best players here considering how much of a liability Shaq was defensively at this point.
