Dikembe Mutombo Draft - R1 - durantbird vs JimmyPlopper*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Oct 13, 2024 5:09 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

PG: Chris Paul 18' - 13.8 (Houston)
SG: Ray Allen 01' - 16.0 (Multi-Franchise Finals)
SF: Jimmy Butler 19' - 13.9 (Philadelphia)
PF: Al Horford 16' - 12.8 (Atlanta)
C: Willis Reed 70' - 14.5 with multiplier (New York)

Bench: Dennis Rodman 90' - 6.0 (DPOY)
Bench: Royce O'Neale 24' - 6.8 (Brooklyn)
Bench: Christian Braun 23' - 3.8 (Denver)

87.7/88

Chris Paul 38 / Jimmy Butler 10
Ray Allen 39 / Christian Braun 9
Jimmy Butler 28 / Royce O'Neale 17 / Dennis Rodman 3
Al Horford 28 / Dennis Rodman 20
Willis Reed 38 / Al Horford 10

Vs

Walt Frazier (38) / Kenny Smith (10)
Danny Green (25) / Kenny Smith (23)
Rick Barry (40) / Danny Green (8)
Draymond Green (38) / JaMychal Green (10)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38) / Tree Rollins (10)

Matchup
- Defensive assignments straight up. Butler on Barry is a strong matchup for us on both sides, Reed played well against Kareem in real life.
- I think we have the better shooting and the depth advantage. Prime Ray Allen is hands down the best shooter in the series, with Paul Butler Horford O'Neale Braun all providing valuable shooting along with mid range from Reed.
- We play a legit 6 All Star / All NBA level guys lineup, with Philly Green and Kenny Smith both playing 33 minutes. I think our depth would win the day here with also Horford Reed being more complementary than Dray KAJ.

Walt Frazier (38) / Kenny Smith (10)
Danny Green (25) / Kenny Smith (23)
Rick Barry (40) / Danny Green (8)
Draymond Green (38) / JaMychal Green (10)
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38) / Tree Rollins (10)

PG: Walt Frazier (1970) - 12.8 FGA/G
SG: Danny Green (2021) - 7.9 FGA/G
SF: Rick Barry (1971) - 19.4 FGA/G
PF: Draymond Green (2017) - 8.6 FGA/G
C: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1971) - 19.1 FGA/G
B1: Kenny Smith (1995) - 7.3 FGA/G
B2: Tree Rollins (1983) - 6.4 FGA/G
B3: JaMychal Green (2021) - 6.4 FGA/G
87.7/88

Defensive matchups straight-up.

Let’s be clear—the depth advantage is wishful thinking. Sure, Ray Allen is a great shooter, but you're overestimating the impact of running Royce O'Neale for significant minutes. Meanwhile, I’ve got Kareem dominating inside and surrounding him with proven winners like Frazier and Draymond, who embody playoff toughness. Rick Barry at his peak was superior to Sixers-era Jimmy Butler on both ends of the floor. Barry’s scoring and playmaking will give Butler fits, and Frazier’s two-way dominance will dismantle your backcourt. I have more overall star power, without any overlap in skills between my stars, serving as a complimentary balance.

Depth? durantbird's bench shooters won’t stand up to our defensive intensity or outscore my lineup of All-NBA-level talent. And let’s not kid ourselves—Reed couldn’t handle Kareem in 1970, and nothing’s changed now. Good luck with that matchup for 38 minutes.

Good luck DB

Another close one, but Jimmy's team seems to have a bit more top-end firepower, with a few well-fitting supporting pieces.

Jimmy has superior top-end talent, although Danny Green and Smith are playing more than I'm comfortable with at this level. Barry and Draymond is an interesting pairing given Barry's shooting and off-ball movement. I like durantbird's egalitarian offense led by CP3, but Jimmy also has great defensive personnel to counter it. I think that defense plus the three-headed monster of Kareem, Barry, and Frazier allow Jimmy to eke this one out.

Both teams are pretty strong but I'll say having the best player easily makes the difference here, it would be difficult to guard both him and Barry. Vote JimmyPlopper.

I think I kinda lost winning chance when Laimbeer took Ewing unnecessarily.

But I screwed myself when I forgot Wilt's eligibility.
