Coach Pairs Draft R1 - Snakebites* vs lilroddyb

Post#1 » by durantbird » Wed Nov 13, 2024 2:17 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

C: Tim Duncan 38 min / Taj Gibson 10 min
Pf: Draymond Green 38 min / Jayson Tatum 10 min
Sf: Jayson Tatum 28 min / Mike Dunleavy 20 min
Sg: Shane Battier 36 min / Gary Payton jr 12 min
Pg: Tyrese Haliburton 36 min / Gary Payton jr 12 min

2003 Tim Duncan 17.2
2007 Shane Battier 8
2024 Jayson Tatum 19.3
2024 Tyrese Haliburton 15.2
2015 Mike Dunleavy 7.6
2017 Draymond Green 8.6
2022 Gary Payton jr 4.8
2012 Taj Gibson 6.4

Tfga: 87.1

Offense
Haliburton will run the offense, he will run around Draymond/Duncan Screens to free him up. Draymond and Tatum can be secondary playmakers and there is good spacing overall with multiple high volume threepoint shooters.

Defense

I think I got the strongest defense in the competition with everyone being elite defenders and some among the best ever with only one bad defender in Haliburton

defensive matchup

Tyrese Haliburton / Dunleavy on Bowen
Shane battier/ Gary Payton jr on Harden
Tatum/ Gary Payton jr on Reggie Miller
Draymond/ Gibson on Porzingis
Tim Duncan/ Gibson on KG

Total: 87.4

overall

Snakebites has a great team but I think my teams has favorable matchups due to defense. We will have elite defenders on every main offensive player on Snake's team. snake has elite defenders aswell but Harden/Reggie Miller backcourt will have a hard time guarding Tyrese Haliburton running around screens.

Don't think Porzingis can handle the physicality from peak Duncan since he could barely play in the playoffs and played limited minutes. I guess a bad point since Gary Payton jr is also injury prone

best of luck Snakebites

PG: James Harden 17-18 20.1 FGA
SG: Reggie Miller 99-00 12.9 FGA
SF: Bruce Bowen 02-03 5.8 FGA
PF: Kevin Garnett 07-08 13.9 FGA
C: Kristaps Porzingis 23-24 13.2 FGA

B: Danny Green 14-15 9.1 FGA
B: Mark Jackson 99-00 7.0 FGA
B: PJ Tucker 17-18 5.4 FGA

Total: 87.4

Rotation:

Harden (37)/Jackson (11)
Miller (32)/Green (16)
Bowen (32)/Green (16)
KG (26)/Tucker (22)
Porzingis (36)/KG (12)

Alrighty. I think I’ve got one of the more potent and effective offenses in this game. Harden is my offensive engine, KG is the best roll man you can put alongside him, and everyone else on this roster just threes. This affords us a simple and effective game plan- spread pick and roll. Reggie Miller and Kristaps Porzingis are ideal third and fourth options here- Reggie’s elite off ball movement is perfectly suited to this offense and Porzingis draws Duncan out of the paint. Bowen and all three bench players are capable shooters.

I think I’ve got all the right defensive pieces. Bowen checks Tatum effectively, I can call in Danny Green when needed, and Reggie hides in the corner on Battier. KG is the secret weapon here. Draymond is not a reliable shooter or scorer, so KG essentially is my free safety on defense- a roll he is extremely well suited for.

If I’m ranking bench pieces in this matchup I think it’s:

1) Green
2) Jackson
3) Tucker
4) Dunleavy
5) Payton Jr
6) Taj

I’m unsure about the order of the last three, but they’re all on Roddy’s team. The bench disparity looms large here IMO.

Overall I think my offense syncs together just a bit better, and I think I have a much better bench too.

Roddy has more talent in starting lineup but I think I'm not sure what to make of Haliburton after his end to season and start of this one, and I think Porzingis fit is better than Draymond. Snake also has the better bench easily. Vote Snakebites.

I agree with Dr P that Hali's 2023-24 is a bit difficult to peg given how much he dropped off after the hamstring injury. I'm also not sure how well he and Duncan fit stylistically. On the other hand, roddy does have great personnel to defend that offensive juggernaut Snake is running out there, while Snake's backcourt is fairly vulnerable defensively with Harden, Reggie, and Jackson playing the bulk of the minutes. Ultimately, I don't think the version of Hali we saw in the playoffs is in the same class as Harden as an offensive hub, especially since he has Duncan posting up instead of a stretch 5 like Turner, while Harden has KG and Porzingis who are both amazing fits with him.

Harden+Reggie is a porous defensive backcourt, but fortunately for Snake I don't see Haliburton doing enough damage. I also think Snake has one of the better benches we've seen in these games without having a true big-time sixth man.
