Coach Pairs Draft - Semi - flaco vs Dr Positivity

Post#1 » by durantbird » Thu Nov 14, 2024 8:30 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

GL flaco

Defensive matchups: Paul on Nash, Manu on Bridges, Wiggins on Leonard, Davis on Giannis, Robinson on Horford.

Both teams have pretty well rounded starting lineups and a few downgrades, but I think his are more significant as we have three starters at peak value in Davis, Manu and Wiggins, while he just has Bridges, plus Thabo and Batum are worse versions as well. Hawks Horford shoots 3s worse than Celtics which takes a little bit of the bite off the stretch Giannis lineup against Robinson. Nash is the weakest starting lineup defender and has nowhere to hide. I don't think 24 Bridges is more useful in this role than Wiggins. As mentioned we have the depth advantage with it being 34% 3pt Hawks version of Thabo and old Batum. Davis, Robinson and Isaac is a great combination of bodies to build a wall inside and in transition against Giannis.

Best of luck, Dr P!

Rotations
PG: Steve Nash (38) / Delon Wright (10)
SG: Mikal Bridges (38) / Thabo Sefolosha (10)
SF: Kawhi Leonard (38) / Thabo Sefolosha (10)
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo (28) / Nicolas Batum (20)
C: Al Horford (38) / Giannis Antetokounmpo (10)

Offense
Literally all my starters can put the ball on the floor and create their own shot. Everybody but Giannis is a reliable volume 3pt shooter. Giannis surrounded by shooters is unguardable. Nash and Giannis would wreak havoc on the open court. For the record, this is Brooklyn Bridges who was used as the #1 option. I'd only ask him to be the 5th option on my team.

Defense
Horford and Giannis can do it all: drop, switch, hedge, blitz, you name it. They are supplemented by two super versatile defensive wings in Kawhi and Bridges. My primary POA defenders are Bridges, Wright and Thabo. We always ice the side PnR since we're facing two non-3pt-shooting bigs. Giannis may occasionaly roam. Nash pre-switches and peels off to the corner. All he's asked to do is contest the 3. If he's attacked off the dribble, Giannis and Horford got his back in the paint. When Nash rests, we have the option to run a switch-heavy scheme. All players on the roster but Nash are switchable defenders.

FGA
2021 Kawhi Leonard 17.5
2016 Al Horford 12.8
2019 Giannis Antetokoumpo 17.3
2022 Delon Wright 3.5
2004 Steve Nash 10.8
2024 Mikal Bridges 15.8
2023 Nicolas Batum 4.9
2016 Thabo Sefolosha 5.0

Total: 87.6

This is a more favourable matchup for Dr P than the last one, as Bridges seems to have lost some of his defensive lustre since going to Brooklyn, and all of Dr P's perimeter players are capable of attacking Nash. On the other hand, Kawhi and Giannis give flaco the clear edge in top-end talent notwithstanding the Nash downgrade, and that's generally just a tough build to handle even for a great defensive team like Dr P's. I think there's enough defensive support for Nash to make flaco's superior firepower decisive here.

Even with the years chosen, Nash+Kawhi+Giannis as a core trio is just really, really hard to stop, even with a great defense like Dr. P has. Bridges and Horford provide perfect supporting roles as guys who can playmake but don't demand the ball.

I'm officially eliminated, so I feel comfortable voting on this one without any sense of conflict.

Yeah, nothing against Dr P's team at all, but I think flaco knocked this one out of the park. Nash/Giannis/Kawhi is ridiculous and he somehow managed a passable bench with limited resources here too. I like Dr P's team and do think he matches up reasonably well, but just in a vacuum I think flaco's team is a lot stronger and more likely to generate offense at the points where it will be needed the most.
