Nineties Players Redux Draft - R2 - Snakebites vs Dr Positivity*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Dec 8, 2024 6:15 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

87.8 / 88

SG: Mitch Richmond (28) / Charlie Ward (12) / Jon Barry (8)

GL Snakebites

Defensive matchups: Penny on Billups, Bowen on Jordan, Richmond on Vince, Dirk on Sabonis, Ewing on Rodman. Only ok matchup is Richmond/Vince, but he either has to make Jordan use energy guarding Richmond or use Vince on him.

- He has a strong wing combo but Penny and Dirk is more balanced skillset wise, the former should be pretty tough to stop with Dirk's spacing. Furthermore Richmond and Ewing give one more supporting offensive all-star than Billups. The younger peak athleticism Ewing is a good fit with Dirk and could cause Sabonis issues.

- Being able to put Ewing on Rodman and Dirk on an old European C puts our D in a great position. Ewing help D on Jordan with Bowen as primary defender is the right combination.

- Odom is the clear biggest difference maker off the bench and gets some playmaking opportunity in the few minutes Penny sits, and Ward and Barry are solid 7th and 8th as well. McKie's 3pt is on low volume (1.5 attempts), we feel pretty comfortable on D when he's playing with Rodman or Outlaw.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

PG: Chauncey Billups 2006 12.5 FGA
All NBA 2nd, All Defensive 2nd, 5th in MVP

SG: Michael Jordan 1991 22.4 FGA
MVP, FMVP, All NBA First, All Defensive First

SF: Vince Carter 2001 22.1 FGA
All NBA 2nd

PF: Dennis Rodman 1995 4.9 FGA
All NBA Third, All Defensive First

C: Arvydas Sabonis 1996 9.9 FGA

B: Aaron McKie 99-00 7.2 FGA
B: Sam Perkins 97-98 5.8 FGA
B: Bo Outlaw 95-96 3.0 FGA

Rotation:

Billups (39)/Jordan (9)
Jordan (30)/Mckie (18)
Carter (39)/McKie (9)
Rodman (35)/Outlaw (8)/Perkins (5)
Sabonis (30)/Perkins (18)

GL Dr P- great team as always.

Alrighty, lets do this. Once again, at least offensively, my primary power rests in my perimeter. Michael Jordan is comfortably the best player in this series, and Billups complements him perfectly. I maintain that while Vince does overlap in skillset with Jordan that he has enough experience playing with other playmakers, and enough outside shooting ability in the chosen season, to slot in well enough. Bruce Bowen is a great defender but he's a man to man defender who can do a decent job covering one of those guys- he can't guard all three, and Richmond and Penny are both average defenders at best. Sabonis is an ideal fourth option here who provides a surprising amount of passing at the center position- which complements wings like Jordan and VC extremely well.

Defensively, we're solid all round. VC takes Bowen while Billups and Jordan take their respective backcourt assignments. Meanwhile Rodman is the type and caliber of defender to guard Dirk fairly well- he's strong and mobile, and the best defenders for Dirk have historically been guys who don't necessarily have his height, but can keep up with him and are strong enough to rattle him. Sabonis is a solid post presence to put up against Ewing. Again, while he isn't super mobile I think he's complemented well by Rodman in that regard, and he's still an imposing lowpost presence who was effective against the conventional centers of his day- he's a big part of the reason the Blazers had some of the more imposing front courts in the NBA in the late 90s/early 00s.

Overall, I think I have enough to carry the day here.

Dr P has the significantly more well-balanced and deep team here, a potential favorite to win the whole thing.

Dr P has a strong defensive framework to handle MJ, and the Dirk-Penny-Ewing-Richmond core is more than capable of keeping up with Snake on the other end. Odom as sixth man seals the deal.

GG.

Didn't have too much hope in this one. This draft was a bit of a misstep for me. By round 3 I felt I needed to make a big splash with VC, but it's hard to build enough after drafting 2 guys who each eat up over 22 FGA.

I also would have voted Dr. P, not that it matters now.
