Donut Draft R2 - lilroddyb vs durantbird*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:41 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

We'll be using a AI vote when a matchup seems stuck, at least 24 hours since its opening. AI vote counts for a single vote.

PG: Jason Kidd 09' - 7.6
SG: Kobe Bryant 08' - 20.6
SF: OG Anunoby 20' - 8.2
PF: Charles Barkley 93' - 18.1
C: Joel Embiid 22' - 19.6

Bench: Shaun Livingston 17' - 4.2
Bench: Mario Elie 95' - 6.0
Bench: JaVale McGee 18' - 3.4

7.6+20.6+8.2+18.1+19.6+6+4.2+3.4=87.7

Rotation:
PG: Jason Kidd 38 / Shaun Livingston 10
SG: Kobe Bryant 38 / Shaun Livingston 8 / Mario Elie 2
SF: OG Anunoby 24 / Mario Elie 24
PF: Charles Barkley 38 / OG Anunoby 10
C: Joel Embiid 39 / JaVale McGee 9

vs

C: Arvydas Sabonis 30 min / Nikola Jokic 18 min
Pf: Anthony Davis 38 min / Jimmy Butler 10 min
Sf: Tracy McGrady 38 min / Jimmy Butler 10 min
Sg: Danny Green 35 min / Nate McMillan 13 min
Pg: John Stockton 38 min / Nate McMillan 10 min

Matchup:
- Defensive assignments: Kidd vs Stockton, Kobe vs Green, Anunoby vs McGrady, Barkley vs Sabonis, Embiid vs Davis.
- We match up nicely, Kidd will impose his size on Stockton, Kobe is free to put efforts on the offensive side. While Kobe and Barkley have relatively comfortable assignments, his second star AD needs to put a lot of effort against Barkley. Also Sabonis will struggle to keep up with Embiid's intensity, and Jokic as his replacement was a pretty bad defender as a rookie.
- I really like the chemistry of Kidd Kobe Barkley Embiid. Kobe proved his dominance with big men, and here he's got two MVP level bigs, where Embiid's spacing fits nicely with Barkley. Kidd here is the ultimate facilitator and glue guy. Kobe and Barkley are in MVP seasons, Embiid second place in MVP votes. I think having three superstars, plus a fourth All-Star level guy in Kidd, is too much for roddy to match. I don't think extremely premature Butler and Jokic off the bench bridge the gap - they are very pretty far from their best versions. Anunoby, Livingston, Elie, McGee are a great bunch of complementary guys to our stars, all playing important roles in great teams / champions.

It got closer the more I looked at it with that sneaky Jokic pick, but overall I don't see roddy overcoming having one less expensive guy here, and Embiid could take advantage of that slower frontcourt on D. Vote durantbird.

Looking at how the draft played out, roddy needed a more dominant 1-2 punch to make his approach viable, even with arguably the best <10 FGA player in Stockton. Hard to overcome Kobe-Embiid-Barkley with equal or better supporting pieces. While I don't love Barkley-Embiid as a fit, there's probably enough offensive versatility between them to make it work, and Kidd as the floor general will be helpful in this regard.

Vote DB. Embiid will have a field day on Sabonis.
Butler/Jokic picks are funny, but DB got too much talent over there.
