Infrequent Finalist Franchises - Semi - durantbird* vs Dr Positivity

Post#1 » by durantbird » Thu Feb 13, 2025 2:20 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Defensive matchups: Moncrief on Oscar, Kyrie on Holiday, we live with Miller on 01 Pippen, Durant on Lewis, Mutombo on Shaq

This is a solid matchup for us as we can use Moncrief against Oscar while Kyrie still plays a PG, and we have a Shaq defender. It looks like Lewis would have to be on one of Miller or Moncrief unless he changes his starting lineup. Durant can have success against 01 Pippen and we can use Irving's ballhandling ability to get young Shaq out of position on D. We have the bench advantage as Anunoby is the best player, 19 O'Neale isn't any better than Ellis and I'd take 90 Eaton over Biyombo. We have the better spacing team as he only has one elite shooter in Lewis, and Oscar is best with shooting bigs like Lucas.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

PG: Oscar Robertson 63' - 16.9 with multiplier
SG: Jrue Holiday 21' - 13.9
SF: Rashard Lewis 09' - 13.8
PF: Scottie Pippen 01' - 9.3
C: Shaquille O'Neal 95' - 20.2

Bench: Royce O'Neale 19' - 4.2
Bench: Jared Dudley 10' - 6.0
Bench: Bismack Biyombo 16' - 3.5

Rotation:
PG: Oscar Robertson 38 / Jrue Holiday 10
SG: Jrue Holiday 28 / Royce O'Neale 20
SF: Rashard Lewis 28 / Jared Dudley 20
PF: Scottie Pippen 38 / Rashard Lewis 10
C: Shaquille O'Neal 38 / Bismack Biyombo 10

87.8/88

Matchup
- Defensive assignments: Holiday vs Reggie, Lewis vs Moncrief, Oscar vs Kyrie, Pippen vs Durant, Shaq vs Mutombo.
- We match up well here. Pippen and Holiday are great answers to Durant and Reggie. Oscar's size will be imposing versus Kyrie. Lewis, O'Neale and Dudley are all great options to throw at KD. Shaq will not be required to do much defensively against Mutombo and will provide a big body under the baskets.
- We've got prime Oscar and peak Orlando Shaq, against Nets Suns KD, thus having the clear two best players in the series. With nice and fitting supporting cast, good defensive matchups, particularly a guy like Pippen for Durant, this will be enough to get the W.

Matchup is tied.

ChatGPT vote durantbird

Spoiler:
This is a really interesting matchup with distinct strengths on both sides. Here’s how I see it breaking down in a seven-game series:

Offense vs. Defense Matchups

Dr Positivity's Team (Pos):

Has a spacing advantage with Kyrie, Miller, Durant, and even Moncrief providing shooting. They also have two of the best off-ball scorers in Miller and Durant, which helps in a playoff setting.

Durant as the primary scorer could be effective against 2001 Pippen, but this is an older, bulkier version of Pippen, so he's still a very strong defender.

Kyrie will struggle with Oscar's size and strength, but his ball-handling is an asset.

The team doesn’t have a post-scoring option, meaning Mutombo is mostly a rim protector rather than an offensive factor.

Durantbird’s Team (Bird):

Shaq is the biggest force in this series and will give Mutombo major problems. While Mutombo is an elite defender, Shaq’s combination of speed and power in '95 is too much for anyone to handle one-on-one. He’ll cause constant foul trouble.

Oscar Robertson will abuse Kyrie Irving physically. Oscar's all-around playmaking will put massive pressure on Dr Positivity's defense.

The team’s shooting is weaker, as Lewis is the only elite shooter, but they do have Pippen, Holiday, and Oscar as capable passers and cutters.

Bench Matchups

Dr Positivity’s team has a better bench:

OG Anunoby is the best bench player here. He provides strong defense, rebounding, and some three-point shooting.

Keon Ellis is mostly a non-factor offensively but can play some defense.

Mark Eaton is a defensive presence but doesn't provide much offensively.

Durantbird’s bench is weaker:

Royce O’Neale and Jared Dudley provide switchable defense, but they aren't offensive threats.

Bismack Biyombo is just a body.

Key Factors

1. Shaq is the biggest mismatch in the series – Mutombo is a good defender, but even in the real NBA, he was overwhelmed by Shaq’s dominance.

2. Oscar Robertson is a nightmare for Kyrie Irving – Kyrie will score, but he will also get physically overpowered on the other end.

3. Durant is the best scorer, but he’s facing a defensive wall – Pippen, Dudley, and even O’Neale are all physical defenders to throw at him.

4. Spacing vs. Interior dominance – Dr Positivity’s team has better spacing, but Shaq’s ability to collapse the defense and Oscar’s playmaking is a more proven championship formula.

Prediction: Durantbird Wins in 6 or 7

Durantbird has the two best players in the series (Shaq and Oscar). Durant is a fantastic scorer, but the defensive resistance on him (Pippen and wings) limits his efficiency.

Kyrie Irving will get exposed defensively by Oscar.

Dr Positivity has better spacing and a better bench, but their offense is too reliant on jump shooting.

Shaq will break down the interior defense over time and will force Mutombo into foul trouble.

Final Call: Durantbird Wins in 6 or 7 Games

Dr Positivity’s team will win some games with their shooting, and Durant will have a couple of great performances, but ultimately, Shaq and Oscar’s dominance will decide the series.
