The Franchise Draft Lockdown Draft (90s to now) - Discussion

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Mon Feb 17, 2025 12:25 am

Draft rules:

1. Subject to the rules to be set out below, players from the 1989-90 to 2023-24 seasons will be available to be drafted. You can draft players that came into the league before 1989 but the season you choose can't be before 1989-90.

2. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations.

3. We can collectively select a maximum of four players from each franchise's pool of drafted players, and then that pool becomes locked down entirely. For example, I start with Tim Duncan, wack picks David Robinson, Snake takes Manu Ginobili, and durantbird picks Derrick White. From that point on, the Spurs are locked down and nobody who was drafted by them can be selected.

Draft picks for each franchise can be found under Franchise Draft History on Basketball Reference's Draft Index.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/

Undrafted players count towards the franchise for whom they played their first NBA game.

4. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you will still be charged 3.0 for that player.

5. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABABA

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to myself or another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. Draft order will be completely randomized.

10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.

11. The winner of the draft will be determined by playoffs. Each matchup will have a timed poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will be the winner. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

Team Roster Page Rules:

You will be responsible for creating a roster page for your fantasy team. Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page:

. Players
. Rotations
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 88.0 FGA

-All of the above must be completed before playoffs begin.

Yep

No limit on undrafted players? Or maximum of 4 of those as well?

Actually, my plan was for undrafted players to count against the franchise for whom they played their first NBA game. I forgot to add that to the OP.

Ok

Is 4 too many? Especially when you get to do things like count Kobe on Hornets or Kawhi on Pacers.

I think 4 per draft class is a fair number as some pools have way more regulars than others, but we may need to go 2000s to now if we don't get 10 or more drafters.

So only the two guys on the ends of the draft order get to pick which team everyone else chooses from for each round? Should be that everyone gets a turn to pick first

ie. For 10 participants:
1->10,
10->1,
2->10->1,
9->1->10,
3->10->2,
8->1->9

etc

Nobody selects a team for the round. You draft as normal, but once four players from one franchise have been selected (whenever that happens), that franchise's pool is locked down for the rest of the draft.

Not sure if this draft fits well with the need to leave lists. On the fence for now

I'd agree with Dr P that four isn't very restrictive. In either way.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Hi, I'm new here and have only frequented the trades board and the pacers board. What kind of games are these? Looking through the other thread it appears you draft players here and not on something like docs or discord, is that correct?

Yes, you post your picks on here in the draft thread, then afterwards we have a playoff tournament based on the rosters we've drafted.
