Hubie Brown Draft - R1 - flaco* vs Dr Positivity

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Feb 17, 2025 5:48 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG: Jalen Brunson (2023: 17.6 FGA)
SG: Joe Dumars (1989: 13.1 FGA)
SF: Tayshaun Prince (2004: 8.8 FGA)
PF: Bobby Jones (1983: 6.2 FGA)
C: Moses Malone (1983: 16.7 FGA)

PG: Pablo Prigioni (2014: 2.9 FGA = 3.0)
SG/SF: Ray Allen (2001: 16.0 FGA)
PF/C: Anthony Mason (1995: 6.6 FGA)

88 / 88

PG: Jalen Brunson (38) / Pablo Prigioni (8) / Joe Dumars (2)
SG: Joe Dumars (36) / Ray Allen (12)
SF: Tayshaun Prince (22) / Ray Allen (24)
PF: Bobby Jones (20) / Anthony Mason (24) / Tayshaun Prince (6)
C: Moses Malone (38) / Bobby Jones (10)

GL flaco

Defensive matchups: Brunson on Holiday, Dumars on Oscar, Prince on Tatum, Jones on Horford, Moses on Reed.

We're going with a stronger defensive starting lineup and trusting the Moses/Brunson combo with Dumars as 3rd option, although Allen still plays starting level minutes. We have the deeper team overall as his bottom 3 of 2015 Dudley, 2015 Thabo and 2024 Batum is not that impressive, while our 6th and 7th best players are championship starter Prince and 6MOY Mason.

A key to this matchup is that this is Bucks Oscar making his offense with him, Tatum amd Reed not really scarier offensively than even my defensively geared starting lineup. Overall Moses is the most dangerous scorer here and can draw attention opening up shots for other players. The shooting and creation of Brunson and Allen when playing together should be hard to handle on offense. We have ideal defenders in the starting lineup for Oscar and Tatum in Dumars and Prince.

Best of luck, Dr P!

Rotations
PG: Oscar Robertson (38) / Jrue Holiday (10)
SG: Jrue Holiday (28) / Thabo Sefolosha (20)
SF: Jayson Tatum (33) Jared Dudley (15)
PF: Al Horford (28) / Nic Batum (15) / Jayson Tatum (5)
C: Willis Reed (38) / Al Horford (10)

Offense
We run a PnR/PnP-heavy offense forcing Moses to defend in space. Oscar and Tatum are the ball handlers. Willis Reed is one of the best undersized Centers ever. He'd thrive as a roll man thanks to his mobility and physicality. Horford can either roll or pop from 3. Jrue may provide occasional shot creation, if necessary. All my starters but Horford were key players on championship teams in their selected season.

Defense
Reed drops back to protect the rim. He comfortably led the league in DWS in his selected season. Would have likely won DPOY, but the award didn't exist at the time. The presence of Bobby Jones allows us to either double on Moses or blitz the PnR without risking an open 3. All players on the roster are switchable defenders. We have the option to switch everything, but I don't see the point tbh. Switching is all about denying the 3. Dr P's front court leaves a lot to be desired in terms of spacing. Maybe we switch some secondary actions involving Ray Allen, but that's about it. Jrue and Thabo share POA duties. They are both exceptional defenders who can fight through picks.

FGA
1971 Oscar Robertson 12.5 Image Image Image
2021 Jrue Holiday 13.9 Image Image
2024 Jayson Tatum 19.3 Image Image Image
2016 Al Horford 12.8 Image
1970 Willis Reed 14.5 Image Image Image Image Image Image
2015 Thabo Sefolosha 4.8
2015 Jared Dudley 5.9
2024 Nicolas Batum 4.3

Total: 88.0

I've been voting in all of these. This is the only one that makes me seriously pause to think about which one is better. Both teams are excellent

I thought Dr P might be using Dumars at PG when he drafted him after Allen, but instead they're both at SG which isn't viable against most of the SFs in this pool. Never a good sign when you're forced to bench your second-best player for defensive purposes.

Went with flaco as he has a clearer identity and better two-way play.

The number of teams going big at PF made my original plan of a Prince type player there to switch off with Allen a questionable choice.

I thought Dumars-Ray was a workable backcourt and would also have saved you the expense of splurging on Brunson.
