Hubie Brown Draft - R1 - MadNess vs wackbone*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Feb 17, 2025 5:51 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Giannis Antetokounmpo (38) / PJ Tucker (10)

Writeup:

Helluva team as always Ness, best of luck.

Defensively we will start with Moncrief on Lillard, Billups on Jones, Covington on Hill, Giannis on Barkley, and Marc on Gilmore. Tyson Chandler is another DPOY guy off the bench.

We have no holes defensively, and only one guy on the entire team that's not great-elite defensively. Our best defense, however, is a bit of a poor-fitting offense of the opponent. Ness has Hill+Barkley+Gilmore all in the starting lineup, as well as both Zaza and (2011) Wallace off the bench. Based on rotations at least two of those guys will be on the court at all times, with 40/48 minutes three of those guys will be on the court. Hill+Barkley+Gilmore is an insanely talented trio to be sure, but I don't think the sum is equal to the various parts. Combine that with this being 2024 Dame (who is still great, just needed some time to find his footing in MIL IMO, but still not at the level he once was), 2010 Conley, and 2006 Eddie, none of which are ideal seasons. Eddie is needed as a 3 point shooter but he shot 35.6% from deep in the chosen season. Lillard also only shot 35.4% from deep last year FWIW. With several elite defenders throughout our lineup I feel confident that we can crowd the paint and effectively cover Ness's main threats.

Offensively Billups and Moncrief share primary ball-handling duties, Giannis is the focal point of the offense, Marc provides 3 point shooting and passing, Covington (and to a lesser extent Tucker) are 3&D, Korver is one of the best shooters of all time, and All-NBA 3rd Chandler provides another lob threat down low. We will make sure Gasol is always on the court with Giannis, meaning of Chandler's 16 minutes only 6 will be with Giannis. Billups, Covington, Gasol, and Korver all space the floor at a high level, allowing more room for Giannis to operate against Barkley. Gilmore is an elite defender down low but Marc's 3 point shooting and high level passing for the position, less post up offense, might make him a bit uncomfortable.

Write Up:
Goodluck Wack.

I believe we have the best 3/4/5 combo in the game. Everyone forgets how good Grant Hill actually was. Couple him with an absolute bully in Charles Barkley, and one of the most underrated players of all time in Artis Gilmore.

I have 3 MVP level players all in their peaks.

We have PLENTY of spacing around those 3 with my 3 guards all playing starter minutes. Lillard gets it done, Eddie Jones and Mike Conley.

Wack relies on a Giannis alot here. He has to be their best offensive player in this series, and he has to defend Barkely which will be tough to do for 40 minutes.

Overall for defense, I can hide Dame on Covington. Eddie on Moncrief. I love Grant Hill on Billups to take him out of his game. Barkley on Giannis, Gilmore on Gasol.

If you want to decide this match up on the 8th man, then so be it. My 1-6 are just flat out overpowering here.

I have 4 guys who scored 20 ppg to wack's 2.

Vote Ness.
