Non-Dynastic Vintage Champions - Play in - migya vs JimmyPlopper*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sat Mar 22, 2025 7:59 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Rotation
PG: Gary Payton (38) / Joe Dumars (10)
SG: Joe Dumars (28) / Brent Barry (20)
SF: Julius Erving (38) / Brent Barry (10)
PF: Rasheed Wallace (36) / Detlef Schrempf (12)
C: Wes Unseld (28) / Tyson Chandler (20)

Draft
Round 1, Pick 8: Julius Erving (1981) - 18.6 FGA/G
Round 2, Pick 15: Wes Unseld (1969) - 9.3 FGA/G
Round 3, Pick 26: Rasheed Wallace (2006) - 13.3 FGA/G
Round 4, Pick 41: Gary Payton (1996) - 15.8 FGA/G
Round 5, Pick 48: Joe Dumars (1989) - 13.1 FGA/G
Round 6, Pick 63: Brent Barry (2001) - 6.0 FGA/G
Round 7, Pick 70: Tyson Chandler (2012) - 5.7 FGA/G
Round 8, Pick 85: Detlef Schrempf (2000) - 5.6 FGA/G

Our game plan centers around exploiting mismatches and controlling the tempo. Defensively, Gary Payton will hound Oscar Robertson full court to wear him down, using his elite perimeter defense to disrupt Oscar’s rhythm and passing lanes. Rasheed Wallace and Julius Erving will switch on Draymond Green to neutralize his playmaking while using their length to contest his shots and force him to be a scorer rather than a facilitator. Joe Dumars will stick to Brandon Roy, playing physical to limit his driving lanes and force him into tough mid-range looks. Wes Unseld will box out Nate Thurmond to limit his rebounding dominance, while Tyson Chandler provides rim protection off the bench. We’ll live with Hersey Hawkins' outside shooting if needed, but we’ll rotate Brent Barry onto him to challenge shots without overcommitting and giving up drives.

Offensively, we'll push the pace to take advantage of our athleticism and spacing. Payton will run the pick-and-roll with Unseld, leveraging Wes’s elite outlet passing to initiate fast breaks. Julius Erving will be our primary scorer, attacking Roy and Hawkins — neither of whom can handle his combination of size, strength, and creativity. Rasheed Wallace will pull Draymond out of the paint with his perimeter shooting, opening up driving lanes for Erving and Payton. Dumars will work off-ball, curling around screens to exploit McMillan and Hawkins when they get stuck chasing. When their second unit comes in, we’ll punish the McMillan/Crowder/Bogut lineup with Erving and Brent Barry pushing the pace and stretching the floor, forcing their defense into uncomfortable rotations. The goal is to wear down their top-heavy roster while maintaining fresh legs for our stars late in the game.

Great team, migya. Good Luck.

Oscar(38) / McMillan(10)
Hawkins(38) / McMillan(10)
Roy(38) / Crowder(10)
Draymond(38) / Crowder(10)
Thurmond(38) / Bogut(10)

Very good team Jimmy, well put together.

Matchups:
Oscar v Payton, Hawkins v Dumars, Draymond and Roy v Erving, Draymond and Roy v Rasheed, Thurmond v Unseld.

My two 60s stars are among the best at what they do; Oscar scoring and playmaking and Thurmond rebounding and defending. Both play both ends as well. I've surrounded them with very good fitting players. Draymond is also among the best defenders at his position, also playmaking. He shoots well from outside, better than Rasheed and will spent a bit more time than Roy on Erving, limiting him quite well. Roy and Hawkins both play both ends well, both score and pass well also. Thurmond in this matchup has a big affect with his defense and Bogut is similar. McMillan and Crowder can shoot and defend well. Unseld is very good but just not quite as impacrful as my bigs and I think my backcourt brings more Think I have a little more all up.

Dray is a great team defender but he was never the guy who was put on Lebron man to man- they had other guys doing that, at least on a full time basis. Dray helps but I don't think it does enough here. I think the lack of size on the perimeter sets up Dr J for a great series. While I do think migya's team has a strong case being more talented overall JP's team just feels a bit more structurally sound and I think the matchup works out better for him.
