Non-Dynastic Vintage Champions - R1 - Dr Positivity vs JimmyPlopper*

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

PG: Russell Westbrook (2016: 18.1 FGA)
SG: Mitch Richmond (1996: 16.9 FGA)
PF: Paul George (2018: 17.0 FGA)
PF: Bobby Jones (1983: 6.2 FGA)
C: Moses Malone (1983: 16.7 FGA)

PG/SG: Jason Kidd (2013: 5.4 FGA)
SG: Keon Ellis (2024: 4.1 FGA)
C: Nick Collison (2012: 3.2 FGA)

87.6 / 88

PG: Russell Westbrook (40) / Jason Kidd (8)
SG: Mitch Richmond (26) / Jason Kidd (22)
SF: Paul George (22) / Mitch Richmond (14) / Keon Ellis (12)
PF: Bobby Jones (30) / Paul George (18)
C: Moses Malone (38) / Nick Collison (10)

GL Jimmy

Defensive matchups: Westbrook on Payton, Richmond on Dumars, George on Erving, Jones on Shed, Moses on Unseld. Don't see any problems there.

- We have pretty solid top 4 of Moses/Russ/George/Richmond with more frontcourt offense balance than his team. Moses grabs Westbrook's bricks.

- Payton's halfcourt grinding style isn't the best fit in the world with Erving and Unseld offense and I believe we have the two best shooters in the starting lineup in Richmond and George.

- Since he is using 2000 Schrempf and Chandler is eating into Unseld's minutes his bench is less imposing. Kidd is a solid 6th man who helped Knicks win this year.

Rotation
PG: Gary Payton (38) / Joe Dumars (10)
SG: Joe Dumars (28) / Brent Barry (20)
SF: Julius Erving (38) / Brent Barry (10)
PF: Rasheed Wallace (36) / Detlef Schrempf (12)
C: Wes Unseld (28) / Tyson Chandler (20)

Draft
Round 1, Pick 8: Julius Erving (1981) - 18.6 FGA/G
Round 2, Pick 15: Wes Unseld (1969) - 9.3 FGA/G
Round 3, Pick 26: Rasheed Wallace (2006) - 13.3 FGA/G
Round 4, Pick 41: Gary Payton (1996) - 15.8 FGA/G
Round 5, Pick 48: Joe Dumars (1989) - 13.1 FGA/G
Round 6, Pick 63: Brent Barry (2001) - 6.0 FGA/G
Round 7, Pick 70: Tyson Chandler (2012) - 5.7 FGA/G
Round 8, Pick 85: Detlef Schrempf (2000) - 5.6 FGA/G

87.4/88

Defensive Matchups:

Payton on Westbrook — Payton’s elite defense is perfect to disrupt Westbrook’s ball dominance and chaotic drives. He can force Russ into inefficient shots and turnovers.

Dumars on Richmond — Dumars was a tough, smart defender who battled Michael Jordan — he can absolutely hang with Richmond.

Erving on George — Erving’s length and athleticism can slow PG down and challenge his shots.

Sheed on Bobby Jones — Rasheed’s range pulls Jones out of the paint, minimizing his help defense, and Sheed’s post skills can punish him offensively.

Unseld on Moses — Unseld’s strength and positioning help neutralize Moses’ post game. He won’t stop him entirely, but he can make him work hard for every bucket.

Offensive Strategy:
Attack Westbrook’s Defense — Westbrook’s defense is shaky when he’s exerting energy offensively. Use Payton’s strength and Erving’s cutting to force switches and tire him out.

Run the Offense Through Erving — Julius is the best offensive player in this matchup. Let him attack George (who will also carry a scoring load) and create open looks for Sheed and Dumars.

Punish Bobby Jones — He’s an elite defender but limited offensively. Sheed can bully him in the post and stretch him with threes.

Bench Edge — Their Kidd/Ellis/Collison lineup lacks scoring punch. Schrempf and Barry bring spacing and playmaking off the bench to extend leads.

Key Advantages:
Better Spacing Than It Looks — Payton, Sheed, Dumars, Barry, and Schrempf all have solid range for their eras. Westbrook’s poor shooting shrinks their offense.

Versatile Defense — We can switch easily with Sheed and Unseld's size and Erving’s athleticism.

Playmaking Depth — Payton, Erving, Dumars, and Barry can all create offense. Their secondary creators drop off hard after Kidd.

Good luck Dr. P

Voted Jimmy. Westbrook Richmond is a bad defensive backcourt and while Payton and Dumars are more defensive minded they can both punish on offense. Dr P's bench is very bad, I don't think Knicks Kidd is viable for 30 minutes, in real life he played 20 mpg in the playoffs while scoring 21% TS

Yeah, the back end of Dr P's roster dooms him here. It doesn't help that Jones wasn't a guy who could ramp up his minutes to match his talent due to asthma.
