Non-Dynastic Vintage Champions - R1 - MadNess* vs kdawg32086

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Mar 24, 2025 10:47 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

22’-23’ PJ Tucker 3.0 FGA
22’-23’ Luguentz Dort 8.3 FGA
92’-93’ Charles Oakley 5.3 FGA

Total: 87.7 | 88.0 FGA

Write Up:
GL k dawg and welcome to the games!

Defense:
We plan to pack the paint and force him to shoot. His only 3 point shooter plays only 18 minutes. The rest of his team is inefficient from 3. We are very good defensively and we think if we could eliminate the 3 we move on here. We have Patrick Ewing to defend KAJ.

Offense:
We plan to put Sabonis in very hard spots. He cannot defend KD nor Grant Hill so we will pick and roll to his side every time. We can shoot the crap out of the ball with KD, Dame, Dort, Thabo, Tucker, etc. We can space like crazy.

HEre we go:

PG- Isiah Thomas (38)/ Aaron McKie (10)
SG- Sidney Moncrief (38)/Aaron McKie (10)
SF- Dennis Rodman (30)/Kyle Korver (18)
PF- Domantas Sabonis (38)/Dennis Rodman (8)/Mutombo (2)
C- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38)/ Dikembe Mutombo (10)

Round 1- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar-1971 (22.5 * 0.85= 19.125)
Round 2- Isiah Thomas- 1986 (16.2)
Round 3- Dennis Rodman- 1990 (6)
Round 4- Sidney Moncrief- 1984 (14.2)
Round 5- Domantas Sabonis- 2023 (11.9)
Round 6: Dikembe Mutombo- 2000 (7)
Round 7: Kyle Korver- 2020 (5.1)
Round 8: Aaron McKie- 2004 (7.7)

This team is built to be well rounded and play a very solid two-way game that is not reliant on any single player's production in order to win.

Offense: Offensively, this team is built to score in many ways depending on the matchup. Inside, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the greatest post scorers in NBA history, with a dominant skyhook shot among many ways he became the league's all-time leading scorer. He is complimented by Sabonis and his versatility as both a post scorer and a perimeter threat at his size (shot .373 from 3 in this season), in addition to Domantas helping to facilitate the offense beyond what the guards already provide. Between these 2 players, along with all-time great rebounders like Dennis Rodman and Dikembe Mutombo, our team should dominate the glass, creating chance after chance for our team to score points on the offensive end. On the perimeter, Isiah Thomas is one of the greatest playmakers in NBA history and Sidney Moncrief was a high level scorer from all over the floor. They are complimented by one of the greatest 3 point shooters in NBA history, Kyle Korver, as well as the gritty Aaron McKie who shot .436 from 3 that season. The combination of McKie, Korver, and Domantas providing the threat of outside scoring to go along with two dominant guards and one of the most dominant post players in NBA history should result in the team being able to consistently put up points in a variety of ways, depending on how the opposing defense chooses to pick its poison.

Defense: Defensively, this team is gritty and well-rounded. They can defend both as a team and also individually, depending on the personnel in the game. In the post, the combination of 2 of the greatest shot blockers in NBA history with Kareem and Dikembe, should neutralize any inside scoring threat, effectively forcing the other team to be overly dependent on outside shooting against some of the greatest defenders if all time in order to try to get points on the board. Adding Sabonis and Rodman to the mix, this team should clean up on the boards, pulling down nearly any rebound on a missed shot by the other team. On the perimeter, Rodman and Moncrief are among the greatest defenders in NBA history, capable of making things very difficult for opposing scorers (just ask MJ about that). With the solid post defense, they can play very aggressively on the perimeter. That smothering defense from Rodman and Moncrief should provide enough distraction for Isiah Thomas to be very aggressive and force turnovers. These players are complimented by the versatile McKie off the bench, who can guard multiple positions and also fits well into the team's defensive system. Even Korver during this season on the Bucks was a decent team defender within the team's defensive scheme.

(I'm obviously biased here since one of these teams is mine, but I thought these were the 2 best teams after the draft, in two very different ways).
