Redick Draft - R1 - Snakebites vs Fadeaway_J*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Apr 13, 2025 1:59 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Like the Showtime Lakers, we combine the Magic-led transition game with a dominant offensive big man (Embiid). Klay is the perfect third option for both - he's devasting pulling up for trail threes on the break, but is obviously a deadly floor spacer in the halfcourt as well. Jrue gets to reprise the lower-usage role he has in Boston, where he can spot up for open threes, beat up weaker defenders in the post, and attack closeouts when it gets swung to him. Grant helps to open things up for Embiid with his elite midrange shooting.

Defensively, we have Embiid patrolling the middle, a couple of versatile combo bigs in Grant and Kleber, a range of wings with size to take on perimeter matchups... and Jrue effing Holiday as the head of the snake. Magic is our one weak spot, but we have more than enough around him to keep him out of problematic matchups, and his size makes him harder to attack than a smaller guard for example.

Matchup
- Defensive assignments are Jrue-Nash, Magic-Green, Klay-Middleton, Grant-McAdoo, Embiid-Wilt. Klay takes the Nash matchup when Jrue is resting. Jrue fights through the pick to prevent Nash from hitting the pullup jumper. Grant has both the mobility and size to handle McAdoo as pop/roll man. Embiid is one of the few bigs in history who can contend with Wilt's strength.
- Jrue plays a key role in this matchup, as he not only hounds Nash defensively, but can also attack him off the dribble and in the post. Given Nash's crucial role for Snake, we're hoping that the physical toll of burning the candle at both ends will hamper his effectiveness somewhat.
- Magic has a pretty decisive size and strength mismatch over most of Snake's perimeter defenders and should be able to do some damage in the post.

Good luck Snake.

Category 1: Steve Nash 05-06 13.4 FGA
Category 2: Danny Green 13-14 7.4 FGA
Category 3: Jalen Suggs 23-24 9.5 FGA
Category 4: Bob McAdoo 73-74 19.0 FGA
Category 5: Wilt Chamberlain 66-67 12.1 FGA
Category 6: Jaxson Hayes 22-23 3.3 FGA
Category 7: Khris Middleton 19-20 15.3 FGA
Category 8: Dorian Finney-Smith 20-21 7.8 FGA

87.8 FGA

Nash (37)/Suggs (11)
Green (28)/Suggs (20)
Middleton (37)/Finney-Smith (11)
McAdoo (34)/Finney-Smith (14)
Chamberlain (37)/Hayes (8)/McAdoo (3)

Alrighty, my team has three MVPs on it. One is Wilt Chamberlain- a dominant low post bigman who could run the floor and who's rebounding will greatly assist the fast break, lead by my second MVP- Steve Nash. My third MVP is the prototypical stretch bigman, who I think slots extremely well as stretch four alongside Wilt- they combine to make the best front court combination on this team. Around them I have a supporting cast of strong role players- Middleton slots well as the fourth option here and young Danny Green is an ideal off ball player- more than just a spot up shooter at this stage in his career. I think the offense absolutely slaps.

Defensively I'll own up to some issues here- Suggs can come off the bench to help out with Magic periodically, and Middleton at least has the size to contest him in the post, even if there isn't an ideal cover here. But the counter is that it's also fairly hard to hide Magic here- even young Danny Green can give the slow footed Magic some trouble here, and I don't think Embiid has what it takes to match up against Wilt here, particularly with Horace Grant occupied on McAdoo.

Overall I think the talent level of my group should overcome some defensive challenges on Magic, and this should carry the day here.
